Today is RESPECT LIFE SUNDAY! Remember that LIFE is the most beautiful gift of God to humanity; it is seen as the image of God, “a sign of God’s love, a trace of his glory!” Our faith calls us to become committed guardian of the sanctity of life. Also, our faith calls us to become committed participants in rebuilding the deteriorating moral image of humanity. We cannot be disloyal to our faith by simply allowing ourselves to be sedated by our silence and indifference. Listen to the proactive voices of the late Mother Teresa that disturbed the conscience of the participants of the United Nations Conference on Population and Development in Cairo, Egypt, on September 1994, when she announced:

“I am sure that deep down in your heart you know that the unborn child is a human being loved by God, like you and me. How can anyone knowing that deliberately destroy that life? It frightens me to think of all the people who kill their conscience so that they can perform abortion…”

LIFE is SACRED! It must be respected and guarded in all forms: from conception to natural death. Anything that is a threat to the SANCTITY OF LIFE must be denounced and condemned. The cries of the countless victims of abortion, euthanasia, mercy killing, and capital punishment permeate our conscience and compel us to respond. This is imperative to our faith as Christians. We cannot afford to betray our faith to the God of life by simply allowing ourselves to be numbed by our silence, inaction and apathy. We cannot allow evil to triumph over good. Non-participation in the protection of the sanctity of life is a form of collaboration with evil. Therefore, as Christians, we must commit ourselves to a cultural transformation and conversion: from a CULTURE OF DEATH to a CULTURE OF LIFE! So, when you come and receive Jesus during communion time, let him empower you to do “whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is just,

whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, and whatever is gracious” in his eyes. Let us become the cornerstone of the SANCTITY OF LIFE today and forever.

Fall Dinner Announcement

For the health and safety of our volunteers and parish community, the

Altar Society has decided to cancel this year’s Fall Dinner. Though the Fall

Dinner is the Altar Society’s only fundraiser, the Committee felt that any risk was too much of a risk to

take. We ask that you prayerfully consider a

monetary donation directly to the Altar Society this year instead. Any

financial assistance is greatly appreciated since the Society will still have obligations to fulfill in order to

provide the support to the parish that we are built on. Donations can be

made to the Parish Office at P.O. Box 349, Scottsbluff NE 69363. Please make checks payable to St. Agnes

Altar Society.

Penitential Act I confess to almighty God and to you my brothers and sisters, that I have greatly sinned, in my thoughts and in my words, in what I have done and in what I have failed to do, (strike breast) through my fault, through my fault, through my most grievous fault; therefore I ask blessed Mary ever-Virgin, all the Angels and Saints, and you my brothers and sisters, to pray for me to the Lord our God Glory to God - Mass of Christ the Savior Glory to God in the highest you take away the sins of the world, and on earth peace to people of good will. receive our prayer; we praise you, you are seated at the right hand of the Father, we bless you, have mercy on us. we adore you, For you alone are the Holy One, we glorify you, you alone are the Lord, we give you thanks for your great glory, you alone are the Most High, Lord God, heavenly King, Jesus Christ, O God, almighty Father with the Holy Spirit, Lord God, Lamb of God, Son of the Father, in the glory of God the Father. Amen. you take away the sins of the world, have mercy on us;

THE LITURGY of the WORD

First Reading - Isaiah 5:1-17 (139A) Let me now sing of my friend, my friend’s song concerning his vineyard. My friend has a vineyard on a fertile hillside; he spaded it, cleared it of stones, and planted the choicest vines; within it he built a watchtower, and hewed out a wine press. Then he looked for the crop of grapes. Now, inhabitants of Jerusalem and people of Judah, judge between me and my vineyard: What more was there to do for my vineyard that I had not done? Why, when I looked for the drop of grapes, did it bring forth wild grapes? Now, I will let you know what I mean to do with my vineyard: take away its hedge, give it to grazing, break through its wall, let it be trampled! Yes, I will make it a ruin: it shall not be pruned or hoed, but overgrown with thorns and briers; I will command the clouds not to send rain upon it. The vineyard of the LORD of hosts is the house of Israel, and the people of Judah are his cherished plant; he looked for judgment, but see, bloodshed! for justice, but hark, the outcry!

Responsorial Psalm Second Reading - Philippians 4:6-9 Brothers and sisters: Have no anxiety at all, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, make your requests known to God. Then in the peace of God that surpasses all understanding will guard your hearts and minds in Christ Jesus. Finally, brothers and sisters, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is gracious, if there is any excellence and if there is anything worthy of praise, think about these things. Keep on doing what you have learned and received and heard and seen in me. Then the God of peace will be with you.

Please stand Gospel Alleluia I have chosen you from the world, says the Lord, to go and bear fruit that will remain. Gospel - Matthew 21:33-43 Jesus said to the chief priests and the elders of the people: “Hear another parable. There was a landowner who planted a vineyard, put a hedge around it, dug a wine press in it, and built a tower. Then he leased it to tenants and went on a journey. When vintage time drew near, he sent his servants to the tenants to obtain his produce. But the tenants seized the servants and the one they beat, another they killed, and a third they stoned. Again he sent other servants, more numerous than the first ones, but they treated them in the same way. Finally, he sent his son to them, thinking, ‘They will respect my son.’ But when the tenants saw the son, they said to one another, ‘This is the heir. Come, let us kill him and acquire his inheritance.’ They seized him, threw him out of the vineyard, and killed him. What will the owner of the vineyard do to those tenants when he comes?” They answered him, “He will put those wretched men to wretched death and lease his vineyard to other tenants who will give him the produce at the proper times.” Jesus said to them, “Did you never read in the Scriptures: The stone that the builders rejected has become the cornerstone; by the Lord has this been done, and it is wonderful in our eyes? Therefore I say to you, the kingdom of God will be taken away from you and given to a people that will produce its fruit.”

Homily Notes _____________________________________________________________ _____________________________________________________________ _____________________________________________________________ _____________________________________________________________ _____________________________________________________________ Please stand Nicene Creed I believe in one God, the Father almighty, maker of heaven and earth, of all things visible and invisible. I believe in one Lord Jesus Christ, the Only Begotten Son of God, born of the Father before all ages. God from God, Light from Light, true God from true God, begotten not made, consubstantial with the Father; through him all things were made. For us men and our salvation he came down from heaven, and by the Holy Spirit was incarnate of the Virgin Mary and became man. For our sake he was crucified under Pontius Pilate, he suffered death and was buried, and rose again on the third day in accordance with the Scriptures. He ascended into heaven and is seated at the right hand of the Father. He will come again in glory to judge the living and the dead and his kingdom will have no end. I believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord, the giver of life, who proceeds from the Father and the Son, who with the Father and the Son is adored and glorified, who has spoken through the prophets. I believe in one, holy, catholic and apostolic Church. I confess one baptism for the forgiveness of sins, and I look forward to the resurrection of the dead and the life of the world to come. Amen.

Celebrating Sunday for Catholic Families

Twenty-seventh Sunday in Ordinary Time

Gospel: Matthew 21:33-41

On the Way to Mass: Have we ever hurt or harmed anyone with a look, a harsh word, or a bad thought? On the Way Home From Mass: How might we better discern that someone is doing God’s will? How may we be more receptive to God and his messengers? Living the Word: Discuss today’s Gospel with your children with an art project. Draw a vineyard with lush plants and happy farmers talk about what the farmers must do to create such a beautiful, thriving place. Now draw the same schene, but with people instead of vines. How does God help us grow and thrive?

Parent Talk When my brother and his fiancé said they were coming for a weekend visit, I was thrilled. It

would be a wonderful opportunity for my children to spend time with their uncle and the woman who would soon be their aunt.

My excitement faded when I learned that my brother expected different sleeping arrangements than I had in mind. He anticipated that they would share a room.

With two children approaching their teenage years, I felt it was important that the rules in our home apply to visitors. Marriage is a blessed sacrament and I wanted the children to understand that it comes with joys and privileges worth waiting for. Sharing a room is one of them.

Although displeased, my brother respected my concern and the two enjoyed their stay without incident. When they later returned as a married couple, we were happy to host them in our guest room together.

How do Catholics use our senses in worship? Our everyday awareness of

God comes to us through our senses: sight, sound, smell, touch, and taste. They are the pathways to the deepest parts of our imagination and understanding.

Some rituals of the Church go back to the times when few people could read or write – but they could be drawn to Jesus by using their senses. Now we use sacred music, bells, incense, poetic prayers – they all plant our faith deep in our body and bones as Catholics.

Prayer Partners St. Agnes students have missed their connections

with other grades due to our social distancing protocols for the pandemic. In an attempt to

maintain our community, students are acting as prayer partners for each other. Students fill out a prayer request card at the beginning of the month then it is traded

with another grade. These

students then pray for each other through that

month.

Pictured are : 2nd Grade with their prayer intention

cards.

Growing Our Spelling Skills 4th grade students enjoy practicing their spelling in a number of unique ways. One of their favorites is to

use the upstairs hallway to create an over-sized crossword puzzle using the current week’s words.

Pictured are Mia Blanco and Giuliana Suhr.

Adopt-a-Seminarian St. Agnes students will be participating in the Adopt-a-Seminarian program again this year. Each class is assigned a month to pray for and encourage our seminarian, Kaelob Marx. Kaelob is originally from Hay

Springs and is in his College II year at Conception Seminary. It is exciting to have 8 young

men currently in the seminarian program and we pray for all of them as they

discern their call to the priesthood.

What’s Happening at St. Agnes School………...

Kindergarten Class By Teri Ramirez

Let Autumn Begin!

We made it through September and August with flying colors! Now, we are on our way to October fun! Bring on the pumpkins, cooler weather, and beautiful colors of the season! In kindergarten, a way that I like to get to know my students is to have a Wise Owl of the Week. One student is picked each week to share about themselves and their family. They get to bring in various items they collect, books they love, and their favorite snack to share with the class. So far, we have had three wise owls, and they are Zaylie, Ryker and Rhett.

All our days are exciting, but we have a few days that are spectacular! We will have bat day coming up. This is where the students will learn about nocturnal animals and get to experience the habitat of bats when the room is transformed into a bat cave. We will also celebrate the 50th day of school with a 50’s party, a fear factor day and a community helper’s day. I am really enjoying this time of the year because I feel like this is when we are really getting into our groove. Routines are going well, small groups have started, and learning is in progress! I cannot wait to see how each child will grow. Teaching kindergarten is my happy place!

Third Grade Class By Amanda Brill

Wow how the school year is flying! We have been busy in 3rd grade. We completed all three of our MAPS testing on the Chromebooks! We have started to incorporate them into our classroom as we begin to learn typing. We have been loving Seesaw and all the activities it offers. The students are loving all the educational lessons we can share with our families! In social studies, we are talking all about how to read maps, identifying the cardinal directions and the equator and prime meridian. We talked a lot about the different kinds of regions and communities that are in our world. In science, we are learning about the different kinds of forces, gravity, and friction. The kids were fascinated by how much these topics are in our everyday life. Gravity is a never-ending thing, as well as forces are in just about everything we do, whether they are balanced or unbalanced.

Math has been packed with an introduction to multiplication. We have learned almost all the math fact songs. We are also learning the many different tactics to multiplication. We are trying to master these facts as precisely and promptly as possible. We know that by knowing our math facts, 4th and 5th grade math will become such a breeze for us! We are gaining our multiplication “muscles” one day at a time!
