Welcome

But as for me, it is good to be near God. — Psalm 73:28

We have no greater privilege than to draw near to God. We come to him through the merit of Christ crucified. We come by the power of the Holy Spirit. And we come with God’s promise that he will draw near to us ( James 4:8).

If your faith has not yet come to rest in Christ, and if God is awakening in your heart a desire to take the next step, please use one of the prayer cards in the pew rack to contact the pastor or speak to him as you leave the sanctuary. A husband and wife team will also be standing next to the pastor following the service to speak with anyone interested in exploring what it means to know Jesus Christ or to join this church.

May our gracious Lord draw near to you wonderfully in this service today.

† The Peace

The Call to Worship .................................................................................... Psalm 145†

Great is the Lord and most worthy of praise; his greatness no one can fathom.

One generation will commend your works to another;

they will tell of your mighty acts.

They will speak of the glorious splendor of your majesty,

and I will meditate on your wonderful works.

They will tell of the power of your awesome works,

and I will proclaim your great deeds.

They will celebrate your abundant goodness

and joyfully sing of your righteousness.

The Lord be with you.

And with your spirit.

Let us worship God.

† The Invocation (Please lift hands)

† The Confession of Faith ......................................................................Apostle’s Creed

I believe in God the Father Almighty, Maker of heaven and earth.

I believe in Jesus Christ, his only Son, our lord, who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, and born of the virgin Mary. He suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died, and was buried; he descended into hell.* The third day he rose again from the dead. He ascended into heaven and is seated at the right hand of God the Father Almighty. From there he will come to judge the living and the dead.

I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy catholic** church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting. Amen.

The Assurance of Pardoning Grace ................................................. Romans 4:25-5:2

Jesus was delivered over to death for our sins and was raised to life for our justification. Therefore, since we have been justified through faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ, through whom we have gained access by faith into this grace in which we now stand. And we rejoice in the hope of the glory of God.

The Corporate Confession of Sin (Please kneel)

Eternal God, in whom we live and move and have our being; whose face is hidden from us by our sins; and whose mercy we forget in the blindness of our hearts. We confess that we have not loved you as we ought. We have neglected to glorify you in thought, word, and deed, and we have sought our own interests without reference to you. Cleanse us, we beseech you, from all our offenses, and deliver us from proud thoughts and vain desires, that with lowliness and meekness we may draw near to you, confessing our faults, confiding in your grace, and finding in you our refuge and our strength; through Jesus Christ your Son. Amen.

Amen.

He shall feed his flock like a shepherd; and he shall gather the lambs with his arm, and carry them in his bosom, and gently lead those that are with young. Come unto him, all ye that labor, come unto him that are heavy laden, and he will give you rest. Take his yoke upon you, and learn of him, for he is meek and lowly of heart, and ye shall find rest unto your souls. from Isaiah 40:11, and Matthew 11:28-29

Invocation and Prayer of Confession

Welcome and Call to Worship

The Shorter Catechism in Modern English, Question 103: Q: For what do we pray in the third request? A: In the third request (your will be done on earth as it is in heaven) we pray that by his grace God would make us have the capability and the will to know, obey, and submit to his will in everything, as the angels do in heaven.

Because we loved you so much, we were delighted to share with you not only the gospel of God but our lives as well.

Song - Isaiah 43

15

One day when heaven was filled with his praises, one day when sin was as black as could be, Jesus came forth to be born of a virgin, dwelt among men, my example is he.Word became flesh and the light shined among us, his glory revealed.

Living he loved me, dying he saved me, and buried he carried my sins far away. Rising he justified freely forever. One day he’s coming, oh, glorious day, oh, glorious day.

One day they led him up Calvary’s mountain. One day they nailed him to die on a tree. Suffering anguish, despised and rejected, bearing our sins, my Redeemer is he,hands that healed nations, stretched out on a tree, and took the nails for me.

One day the grave could conceal him no longer. One day the stone rolled away from the door. Then he arose, over death he had conquered. Now he’s ascended, my Lord evermore.Death could not hold him. The grave could not keep him from rising again.

One day the trumpet will sound for his coming. One day the skies with his glories will shine. Wonderful day, my beloved One bringing, my Savior Jesus is mine.
