Our first meeting will be 2:15pm Sunday, April 12,

2020, following the Area 33 Assembly at:

Madison Heights, MI

A guiding resource of shared A.A. experience regarding Web

sites is the G.S.O. service piece: “Frequently Asked Questions

About A.A. Web Sites,” question seven:

Question: What about anonymity?

...When we use digital media, we are responsible for our own

anonymity and that of others. When we post, text, tweet or

blog, we should assume that we are publishing at the public

level. When we break our anonymity in these forums, we may

inadvertently break the anonymity of others.

AREA 33 WELCOMES YOU TO THE…

A CLEAR VISION FOR YOU

Page 2: Would you like to be part of the planning AREA WELCOMES

While our members have differing views of how to adhere to

the principles of anonymity laid out in Alcoholics Anonymous’ Elev-

enth and Twelfth Traditions, here are some suggestions for practic-

ing these principles here at March Roundup 2017:

PHOTOGRAPHY AND VIDEO

Out of respect for others, please do not take photographs or

videos during any of the meetings at the Convention. Please remem-

ber that the taking of photos or videos during A.A. meetings makes

many members uncomfortable about the confidentiality of the gath-

ering.

Also, please be considerate when taking photos or videos

around event venues. Take care that you do not capture images of

A.A. members, family members and friends who did not give their

permission and may not wish to appear in your pictures.

THE INTERNET

The long form of A.A.’s 11th Tradition reads: “Our names

and pictures as A.A. members ought not to be broadcast, filmed or

publicly printed.”

In keeping with the principle, please do not post recognizable

photos or videos of identifiable A.A. members on Web sites accessi-

ble to the public, including unrestricted pages on social networking

sites. Whatever the medium, no disclosure of a member’s affiliation

with A.A. can rightfully be made by anyone except the individual

himself.

TRADITION ELEVEN

Our public relations policy is based on attraction rather than

promotion; we need always maintain personal anonymity at the lev-

el of press, radio and films.

TRADITION TWELVE

Anonymity is the spiritual foundation of all our Traditions,

ever reminding us to place principles before personalities.

We admitted we were powerless over alcohol -

that our lives had become unmanageable. 1 Having had a spiritual awakening as the result of

these steps, we tried to carry this message to alcohol-

ics, and to practice these principles in all our affairs. 12

If you would like to get a feel for what the General Service Confer-

ence is like, you have two opportunities to participate in a Mock Conference.

The first opportunity will be Saturday, March 28, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at First Unit-

ed Methodist Church in Mt. Pleasant. Pre-registration by email is suggested

so that background information can be sent to you before the Mock Confer-

ence. Register at [email protected] or [email protected] and put

“Mock Conference” in the subject line. Hotel rooms are available at Soaring

Eagle Waterpark and Hotel.

The second opportunity will be held at Area 33’s Pre-Conference

Assembly on Sunday, April 10, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Madison Place, 876

Horace Brown Drive, Madison Heights , MI 48071. Lunch will be served. You

can register on the day of the event.

The A.A. International Convention will be held in Detroit in 2020.

4,500 volunteers will be needed to make the convention a success. The actual

organizing will start in 2019. As the Big Book says, “more will be revealed.”

Came to believe that a power greater than

ourselves could restore us to sanity. 2 11 Sought through prayer and meditation to improve our

conscious contact with God as we understood Him, pray-

ing only for knowledge of His will for us and the power to

carry that out.

A brief history

The March Roundup, or MRU, as we know it today , has

roots that go back to 1961. A group of people decided to put to-

gether a kind of gathering which included General Service Repre-

sentatives (G.S.R.) and anyone interested in General Service. This

early gathering was called the “GSR Rally” and was a four-hour

affair.

In 1976, the name was changed to the “March Rally” and

it was a two-day affair. In 1988, it was turned into a three-day

event, and by 1991 it was changed to the “March Rally/March

Roundup,” which is similar to what we know today.

In 1990, the MRU was on the verge of becoming extinct

because of poor attendance. Some members from District 14

agreed to take over the event, assuring that not only would they

create an event that would be self-supporting, but would gener-

ate enough funding to send Area 33’s Delegate to the General

Service Conference in New York. In addition, all excess money

from the MRU would be contributed to Area 33. The MRU has

been a success ever since.

The General Service Structure of Alcoholics Anonymous

consists of 93 Areas in the United States and Canada. Every April,

the delegate from each area attends our General Service Confer-

ence (G.S.C.) in New York to conduct our collective “group con-

science”.
