The conflict in Afghanistan has been especially costly for our troops from Camp Pendleton. While the staff at Balboa continues to perform miracles everyday, there is one area that requires immediate attention. Often, the patients have needs of financial help that fall outside of regulations. It may be an airline ticket for a family member; an article of clothing or supplies; or any one of a hundred other requests. These unusual needs translate into an added hardship for our young heroes. Former Congressman Duncan L. Hunter chose to do his part to raise funds for the items and events that are not covered by the system. Six years ago he established the Annual Wounded Marines Golf Classic with all of the funds going to patients from all branches of the military at the hospital. The management of Cottonwood Golf Club responded by donating their two courses, their staff, their equipment and their food. Cottonwood does not receive one penny for hosting this event…in fact many of the top level management staff writes a personal check for the event. The San Diego Armed Services YMCA administers the funds and disperses 100% of those dollars to the individual patients. There are no administration fees taken out. This allows for your total contribution to be a tax deduction. What: Sixth Annual Duncan L. Hunter Wounded Marines Golf Classic.
