• Trigger advanced usage of VO capabilities• Obtain a set of well-documented science cases• Gather feedback about the needs of the science
community• Adaptation of VO tools to these needs
In a nutshell: interaction with European astronomers in the area of “science with the VO”

• The Euro-VO SAC is a body of “external” astronomers who provide science input to the project and meets about twice a year• The 7th SAC meeting was held in London in June 2010 in the reporting period• SAC members were briefed on Euro-VO activities and provided input on VO tools, Web pages, and VO days• SAC Web pages at http://www.euro-vo.org/pub/fc/sac.html

• The Announcements of Opportunity have provided scientific and technical support to teams interested in carrying out astronomical projects utilising VO tools• For the last three of them support is closing down (and going beyond the end of the project) • One of them (Is a galaxy’s disk scale-length universal? (PI Fathi [Sweden]) has recently published two papers in refereed journals and a press release is in the making

• All deliverables done on-time and very successfully• Announcement of Opportunity, Workshops, and Schools have shown how vital it is to interact with the European astronomical community
• “Hands-on” schools have been shown to be particularly efficient at collecting feedback and have triggered a large number of VO-days across Europe, which have re-utilized the science tutorials
• Science tutorials will be maintained and are available on the Euro-VO Web site beyond the end of the project
• Vital to continue the interaction with the astronomical community; another school is planned in 2011 as part of the Euro-VO International Cooperation Empowerment (ICE) project. And then?

• FP7 support has proven to be invaluable in organizing all of the above activities
• Thanks to AIDA, the European astronomical community (especially the young one) is now taking up the use of Virtual Observatory tools and applications for their science activities
