D ear Students,

Welcome to Housing Selection season! While Housing Selection may appear to be overwhelming, we encourage you to attend a housing information session or a tour of the upperclassman housing options to become familiar with the variety of options. We offer a variety of housing options to our students returning after the first year. Housing options are: Founders Hall, Ellsworth/Fuller Apartments, East Hall, Salisbury Estates as well as themed housing. We wish we could guarantee that every student will get the housing choice they want, but unfortunately that is not so. Be open to the different housing options and start talking to friends early about housing for 2010-2011. Thank You and Good Luck,

Naomi Carton Director of Residential Services

WPI HOUSING AND FOOD SERVICE CONTRACT 2010-2011

Below is a copy of the Terms and Conditions of the Housing and Food Service Contract. The signer agrees to the terms and conditions of this contract as stated herein.

General Terms and Conditions

Occupants of residence hall rooms must be full-time WPI students. Occupants must vacate the premises

upon termination of student status.

Smoking is not permitted in any residential space.

Any duplication of WPI-issued keys, accommodation of unauthorized-guests, or sharing of food service

privileges is prohibited. Housing and food service privileges are not transferable.

The Housing and Food Service Contract remains in effect for the regular academic year as long as the student is enrolled at WPI.

This is a legally binding contract. Failure to pick up a key does not release a student from this contract.

Residence halls are available for occupancy according to dates listed in the Undergraduate Catalog. Occupancy ends at noon on the day after the last day of classes in Term D.

Residence halls close during the winter break (between B & C terms).

Dining Services operates on a reduced schedule during Thanksgiving and term breaks. Dining Services is closed during winter break.

WPI reserves the right to reassign students at any time.

Residential Services reserves the right to require residents without roommates to relocate to consolidate space.

WPI reserves the right to check student rooms in order to assess and repair the physical facilities, and to

maintain appropriate health and safety standards.

WPI assumes no responsibility for loss of or damage to a resident's personal property.

Room changes may not be made during the first two weeks of Terms A/C or during the last week of any

term. Students may change rooms only after obtaining specific authorization.

Reservations for student housing not claimed by the first day of fall classes may be terminated by WPI unless the student has advised Residential Services of delayed arrival.

WPI reserves the right to change the rates as published if such action is necessitated by economic

conditions during the period of this agreement.

Failure of a resident or his/her guest to comply with residence hall regulations and policies may lead to

imposition of financial liabilities, probation, dismissal from the residence halls and/or WPI, or other civil action.

Residents are expected to obey all applicable laws and to respect the rights, privileges and property of other members of the college community and visitors to the campus. Residents are further expected to refrain from actions that materially or substantially interfere with college or residence hall functions, or would endanger the health, safety or welfare of others.

Residence hall rooms are for residence purposes only and under no circumstances may the rooms, buildings or adjacent grounds be used for any commercial purpose.

As part of the room charges for the first term of residency, the student is assessed a damage deposit.

Because of the high demand for on-campus housing, Residential Services may consider it necessary to make temporary assignments at the start of Term A (i.e., placing three students in a double room). Those assigned to temporary space are notified in writing of their assignment. Permanent assignments are made at the earliest possible date.

Dining Services

All residents (except those living in the Ellsworth-Fuller apartments and East Hall) are required to

participate in one of the residential meal plans offered.

Each term, food service begins with the evening meal on the day before the first day of classes and ends

with the evening meal on the last day of classes.

Once a student has contracted for food service, the commitment remains in effect through the remainder

of the regular academic year. Changes to a different meal plan are permitted only during the first week of A and C terms.

A student who requires a special diet for health reasons must submit a written copy of the requested diet

to Residential Services. If Dining Services is unable to accommodate a medically prescribed diet, the student may request a release from the board plan and/or housing contract, if necessary.
