• John Connell, President & CEO of JFC & Associates brings over 35 years of industry experience and has been actively involved with EAM and CMMS systems since the early 90's. He maintains a United States Coast Guard Chief Engineer’s license and had the honor to serve his country for 28 years as a US Navy Officer. 

• Since founding JFC & Associates in 2001 he has worked with a variety of different clients in their pursuit of asset management excellence. JFC & Associates engages in large‐scale enterprise‐wide application/solution implementations and services. The company focus is on the management and development of Enterprise Asset Management Systems (EAMs) and most recently the Internet of Things (IoT) solutions.

• john F. Kennedy International is the primary international airport serving New York City.

• It is the busiest international air passenger gateway into North America, the fifth busiest airport in the United States and the busiest airport in the New York City airport system, handling just under 59 million passengers in 2016. Over ninety airlines operate out of the airport, with non‐stop or direct flights to destinations around the globe.

• AIRTRAIN JFK: Light‐rail service AirTrainconnects JFK with the Long Island Rail Road (LIRR) and New York City subway and bus lines. At the airport, AirTrain provides fast, free connections between terminals, rental car facilities, hotel shuttle areas, and parking lots.

• SIZE: AirTrain JFK is a 3‐line, dual track 8.1 miles (13.0 km)‐long people mover system.

• RIDERSHIP: Over 22 million riders annually.

Project Objectives

• Move the current paper FPLS Maintenance, Inspection and Testing process to an electronic format

• Provide visibility across the organization with real‐time data• Capture data electronically in Maximo and DataSplice• Create exception reporting to better address issues with the system

• Improved maintenance and tracking of FPLS assets ‐ tracking follow up work

• Ability to replicate paper manual if necessary for QA and audit purposes

• Work online and offline• User friendly interface and device• Streamline Work Execution Management Processes and record keeping

Inspection, Testing and Maintenance for 

Fire Protection and Life Safety System 

Fire Protection Systems:Approved devices, equipment and systems or combinations of systems used to detect fire, activate an alarm, extinguish or control a fire, control or manage smoke and product of a fire or any combination thereof, including fire extinguishing systems, fire alarm systems, sprinkler systems and standpipe systems.

Life Safety Systems:Life Safety systems include fire protection devices, occupancy features, and building/floor designs that facilitate occupancy safety from fire emergencies including smoke and heat, and other non-fire related emergencies such as earthquakes and electric power failures. Life Safety systems include fire alarm notification devices, means of egress plans, areas of refuge, emergency lighting, exit signs, and smoke control systems.

Challenges

• Moving the forms and process to an electronic format ‐ very specific guidelines and format that needed to be maintained.

• Creating reports that mimic the format developed for manually entry ‐ technical challenges of moving something developed in Word and filled out with paper and pencil

• We thought acceptance of the devices and interface would have resistance, but acceptance was quick.  Technicians were tech savvy and liked usability.
