Writing for web presentation Slide 2 Purpose Essentially the purpose of writing for the web is the same as writing for newspapers, magazines and in similar areas. Which is to give news to a wider audience to people who want to read about the news and to anyone who wants to find out about all different kinds of news topics like sport, entertainment, current affairs and breaking news stories, as seen on the BBC news website. http://www.useit.com/alertbox/headlines- bbc.html Slide 3 Context The context of writing for the web involves what context it might be written in, an example in disaster news stories its a bit more serious than something wrote around celebrities or specific famous people. Which may be more less serious but with still the idea of giving news to a wider audience through the idea of writing for the web. Slide 4 Audience The audience is always important when articles, reports, interviews and news pieces go up onto websites. Audiences for different kinds of news piece can vary. In some sports stories on specific sports it might be based around stories for enthusiasts or fans of a particular sport. Where as on a news featured sports news site its much more informal and is targeted at the in-depth fans of sport, perhaps those involved and those who take part as well. Slide 5 Characteristics The characteristics within certain kinds of writing for the web are different and change from time to time depending upon how serious, light, informative or how creative the piece of writing needs to be.
