WHO ARE WE?

Wakefield Sports Academy is a social enterprise (CIC) delivering sport, health & nutrition and team building skills to disenfranchised boys & girls between the ages of 11-16. Initially starting with Rugby League and expanding into other Sports, Dance and Music, based Wakefield.

OUR AIMS

To provide coaching, support, mentoring and encouragement to youngsters who have lost their confidence or have no vision for the future. We aim to keep troubled youngsters out of crime, drugs, alcohol, teenage pregnancies, self-harming, suicide, human trafficking and prostitution. In addition to this we aim to get ‘Young Carers’ involved in sporting activities to alleviate the pressures of everyday life.

HOW WE DO THIS?

Our social inclusion team have experience in a number of roles such as teaching, coaching, mentoring and also child protection and additional educational needs issues, equality and diversity. With all of these skills and experience, we will give youngsters a purpose to achieve their maximum potential to succeed out of their normal learning environment.

WHAT WE DO?

We teach and guide youngsters to put energy into sport and be able to see a purpose around what they are doing. Youngsters will build up self-esteem and be given realistic praise and encouragement when needed. Every child matters and each youngster will be treated as an individual and we will ensure that they progress to achieve their goals, ensuring safeguarding, health & safety and child protection procedures are upheld. All associates have current CRB's.

Andy Bevan – Founder.

Ex - Royal Navy with 25 years’ experience in Sales, Marketing, Business strategy. Running a number of £ Million plus companies within Corporate, Education, Public sector, and the third Sector (Charities) and has delivered several very successful CSR based projects. The last five years has been spent within the Children’s Services developing a tracking and reporting software tool to monitor the progress of looked after children and other vulnerably groups, this now reports on 5000 children in 1500 schools, and is on the board of Trustees for the Wakefield Wildcats Community Trust. Projects delivered;Backstage Academy - setting up and funding a Community Interest Company, working with Yorkshire Forward.Duke of York’s Community Initiative - community engagement strategy.Yorkshire Icons trust, a charity based project - working with Yorkshire Bank, Yorkshire Television, Yorkshire Post, and Sports England.Vast coaching experience of both codes of Rugby at all levels, recently raised £10,000 in sponsorship for Sandal Rugby Festival.
