why
do
they
have
to
change?
Microsoft has been using the same format for Office products since Office 97, (doc, ppt, xls, etc). The new format has changed the files to docx, xlsx, pptx, etc.
The new files incorporate XML- a standardized programming language that will make documents, presentations, etc. more easily translatable from machine to machine.
To see an Office 2007 file with an older version of Office, you will need to download a patch for your older version of Office (available in Tech Resources). For documents sent to parents, save as a PDF or as a ‘97-’03 format.
