The USCS (US Commercial Service) Team, USIIC Board and its

WTC Pune organises Authorised Economic Operator (AEO) Workshop
WTC Pune recently conducted Workshop on
Authorized Economic Operator (AEO) concept and
benefits in association with K-PAC Mumbai. Mr.
Santosh Kumar Vatsa - Jt. Commissioner of
Customs, Pune was Chief Guest. He highlighted
the salient features of this Ease of Business
initiative of the Government of India. It
promises to be a game changer for international
trade - moving Indian Customs from a regulator
to facilitator role.
AEO Workshop for International Trade was conducted by trainer from K-PAC - Mr. Girish Nadkarni - a
veteran Customs IRS officer of 1980 batch. Mr. Vinod Sharma President and Mr. Pradeep Kale, VP of
Pune Customs House Agents Association - MoU partners of WTC Pune participated with other
members.

Ajeenkya DY Patil University – Pune tied-up with
WTC Pune for education and training initiatives.
The MoU was signed during a Seminar - “
Stimulating Exports from Pune Region :
Challenges, Opportunities and Action
plan“ organised by the WTC Navi Mumbai and
WTC Pune in association with D Y Patil University
School of Management.
Mr. Ajeenkya DY Patil, Chancellor - ADYPU felt that this industry-academia initiative will help students
understand nuances of World Trade and open new career vistas for them.
Industry veteran Mr. P. C. Nambiar - Director Group EXIM of Serum Institute, who is also Director and
Secretary; World Free Zone Organisation, Geneva; Chairman Export Promotion Council for EOUs and
SEZs - Ministry of Commerce & Industries highlighted the opportunities, challenges and incentives for
exports and shared success stories.
Other speakers included Mr. Venkat Potturu - SCHMITZ Cargobul Gotha GmbH, Mr. Jayant Ghate - WTC

The Executive Centre (TEC) was inaugurated at
Level 9, in the four tower WTC Pune. Mr. Paul
Salnikow – Founder Chairman & CEO, TEC and Mr.
Sagar Chordia - WTC Pune Director, along with a
host of other dignitaries were present. A self-

— on Higher Education, Innovation & Entrepreneurship, Design and Intellectual Property Rights
Team WTC Pune met The Rt. Hon Liam Fox, MP Secretary of State for International Trade - UK and the
trade delegation of UK Companies at a dinner reception. Mr. Chordia had the opportunity to interact
with Mr. Kumar Iyer British Deputy High Commissioner & Director General, Department for
International Trade in India.

Commerce – American Business Corner event on US Work Permits &
Visas.
US Consulate officials, Mr Dan Fenech and Ms. Soumya Salian,
addressed the participants on salient features of US work permits –
a very sensitive requirement of the industry in Pune.

3 day Maritime Nation India 2016 Conference and Expo
WTC Pune supported the 3 day Maritime
Nation India 2016 event held at International
Exhibition Center, Navi Mumbai. The event
included a conference and expo with the WTC
Pune booth. The event focused on the
inherent potential opportunities in Indian
maritime industry. The market of maritime
and logistics is estimated to be over 4 trillion
US$ worldwide.
One of the highlights of the conference was the International North South Transport Corridor
(INSTC) International Conference 2016, conducted by the Federation of Freight Forwarders of India (
FFFAI) with experts from CIS countries.
MNI had participants from over 10 countries, 60+ speakers from the government and the industry
and promises to continue to ‘help the maritime ecosystem achieve more”. MNI was a great platform
for international delegates, exhibitors, speakers, WTC Pune, WTC Navi Mumbai members to exchange
their views on all maritime opportunities.

2 day Knowledge Exchange Road Show and Exhibition for Pune SMART CITY projects
WTC Pune participated in a 2 day Knowledge Exchange Road Show and Exhibition for Pune SMART
CITY projects conducted by Pune Smart City Development Corporation Ltd. – an initiative of Pune
Municipal Corporation and Urban Development Ministry of Government of India. More than 150
private companies from 35 countries participated in the event organised at JW Marriott Hotel.
The conference included sectoral meetings on physical infrastructure for transport, water, river water
cleaning, riverfront development, customer care,
smart grid with solar and LED, affordable housing,
skill development, healthcare, start-up hub and
transit hub. Pune city offers great opportunities for
the WTC fraternity to partner in the Smart City
initiative with sector focus. WTC Pune is facilitating
its global network for projects therein. Pune is
looking for technology and implementation
partners for its SMART move.
Pune Municipal Commissioner Mr. Kunal Kumar chaired Round-Table discussions with Consulates and
corporates of Germany, UK, Korea, Singapore, Sweden, Flanders – Belgium, etc. The first anniversary
celebrations of the Smart City Mission in India was also held in Pune in the presence of the Prime
Minister of India – Mr. Narendra Modi.

Standards IFRS – Convergence – A Global
Perspective at EON Free Zone Auditorium in Pune, India.
Mr. Andrew Buchanan, Global Head of IFRS at BDO IFR
Advisory Ltd. from London UK gave a global perspective
of IFRS to a distinguished audience of CFOs and audit
leaders of corporates in Pune. Mr. Wayne Basford, IFRS
Leader for BDO – Asia Pacific Region and Chairman of
BDO Internationals IFRS, from Sydney, Australia spoke on technical aspects of IFRS including
Financial Instruments, Revenue recognition, etc.

City of Karlsruhe - Baden,
Germany at Pune on 18 January
2016.
City of Karlsruhe and industry
delegates highlighted possible areas of mutual co-operation in ICT, e-Mobility and Smart City
initiatives including Clean Energy and Smart buildings between Pune and Karlsruhe – a technology
hub in Baden, Germany. Key delegates included Mr. Michael Kaiser, Director – Karlsruhe Economic
Development Department; Mr. Wolfram Jäger, First Deputy Mayor City of Karlsruhe; Mr. Jochen Ehlgötz,
Head of External Relationships, City of Karlsruhe - CEO Karlsruhe Technology Region.

WTC Pune subsequently signed an MoU with City of Karlsruhe, Baden - Germany on 18th June 2016
for active co-operation in the fields of SMART Technologies encompassing ICT, e-mobility, SMART
solutions and energy sectors.
The MoU is very relevant considering Pune is selected to be the
2nd SMART CITY being developed by Government of India. MoU
partners and WTCs across the globe will have a definitive role in
augmenting resources and technology to the civic administration
of City of Pune. In an ongoing development WTC Pune is co-
ordinating connections with the Municipal Administration.

India

The Goods and Services Tax
(‘GST’) roll-out in India. Mr Dilip
Dixit-Sr. Advisor KPMG India
felt that GST is a landmark
change in Indian Tax regime.
Dr. Waman Parkhi-Partner
KPMG India explained in detail how businesses need to strategise and ensure continuity during
transition. He shared how businesses should look at this change, what corporates should do and
what some of them are doing to deal with GST challenges. Impact on supply chain, logistics and
transportation were elucidated by Mr. Rajeev Singh-Partner KPMG.
Mr. Yogesh Antad-Cummins India expressed the concerns and aspirations of industry from GST and
the panel responded with great suggestions. Mr. Aseem Agarwal highlighted the WTC Pune
infrastructure created to support international trade and commerce in the Pune region. Mr. Nikhil
Oswal explained the concept of WTC Pune and its global trade services and network to further
international trade. Mr. Shekhar Dhore-Tax Head at Symantec dwelt on implications of GST on
service sector- IT industry in particular. Ms. Jyotsna Sharma, CFO of Sandvik Asia and Mr. Ashwin
Kelkar of KPMG spoke on financial implications and modification to ERP systems for GST

implementation at corporate level. Mr. Rajesh Shukla- Indirect Tax Head of TATA Motors gave a
glimpse on how businesses were preparing for GST. WTC Pune felicitated the speakers and panelists
at the event attended by head honchos of corporate in Pune. Mr. Akash Arora of BFR Associates
proposed the vote of thanks.

chambers of commerce, and trade and investment agencies.

World Trade Center Pune interacted with Japanese Trade Delegation at the WTC Pune - BDO India
Trade Meet in JW Marriott Pune. The Trade Delegation visiting Pune had key vendors of Mitsubishi
Electricals, Japan.

World Trade Center Pune welcomed the delegation and gave them a glimpse of Pune as an
international trade and commerce destination. Nikhil Oswal emphasized the role of World Trade
Center Pune and its trade services to facilitate international trade in Pune and within the WTCA
global network.
The delegation was accompanied by Mr. Toshihiko Konomi, General Manager - Strategic Planning;
Mr. Sawan Gilda Senior Manager; Mr. Hemant Gang General Manager - SCM & IT and Mr. Sanjay
Bhagwat from Mitsubishi Electric Co. India Pvt. Ltd.
Mr. Sagar Shah, International Liaison Partner of BDO India LLP helped the delegation understand the
new paradigm of ease of doing business in India. Mr. Shah dwelt on wide ranging issues from
investment, taxation, labour and importance of manufacturing in India.
The recent India visit of the Japanese Prime Minister Mr. Shinzo Abe saw a number of agreements in
key areas including a deal for Japan to build India’s first high-speed bullet train, defense pacts that
will clear the way for Japan to sell weapons to India, and progress on a civil nuclear agreement. Many
Japanese companies are planning to set up units at Supa near Pune.

WTC Pune hosts UKTI–L&P BDO Globalist Round Table
The World Trade Center Pune and BDO India
hosted a round-table at Pune on 15 September
with speakers from London & Partners (L&P) UK
and UK Trade & Investment (UKTI). UKTI - a non-
ministerial department in UK alongwith L&P - the
official promotional company that promotes
London and attracts businesses, events,
congresses, students and visitors to London
delved on “Opportunities & Challenges for Global
Businesses”. The keynote speakers were from
London & Partners (L&P) UK and UK Trade &
Investment (UKTI).
Mr. Sagar Shah, Partner - BDO India gave the
keynote address. World Trade Center Pune
welcomed the participants. The event included a
special session on the “Concept Introduction of
POEM – Place of Effective Management”. Mr.
Neelesh Khandelwal spoke on POEM along with
Mr. Gautam Sehgal of London & Partners.
Mr. Philip Sydenham of UKTI spoke on the tax and regulatory framework in UK -acting as a door to
the European Market for fostering cross-border trade & investment.
Mr. Arbinder Chatwal, Head – India Advisory Service, BDO UK from London moderated the event.
Participants included high profile corporate leaders from Pune region.

WTC Pune signs MOUs with WTC Winnipeg and BDO India
World Trade Center Pune had an eventful calendar by reaching out
to other Trade Promotion Organizations to bring best of the global
business to Pune, India. WTC Winnipeg and the WTC Pune signed a
reciprocity agreement to mutually promote inbound and outbound
trade, investment, missions for members of both associations at
business friendly locations of Winnipeg and Pune.
“We want Manitoba companies to benefit from the strength of our
WTC network around the world,” Mariette Mulaire, President and
CEO, WTC Winnipeg said. “Trade initiatives are increasing with India
and this new partnership will help us position Winnipeg and
Manitoba as we are getting ready to welcome the world for Centrallia 2016.”
In continuation of events, recently BDO India LLP agreed to associate with World Trade Center Pune
to enhance trade related advisory; service support for upcoming and established corporates. “We
will activate BDO Global network across countries to look at Pune as an investment friendly
destination” said Mr. Sagar Shah, Director, BDO India, on the occasion of the MoU. It includes 110+
BDO Member Firms that provide advisory services in 152 countries, with over 59,000+ empowered
professionals working out of 1,328+ offices worldwide
WTC Pune role in facilitating international trade got a big boost with Mr. Sanjeev Behari, Chief
Commissioner of Customs and Excise - Pune inducting Nikhil Oswal of WTC Pune on its Customs
Clearance Facilitation Committee – the Government of India Empowered Group in Pune for
International Trade promotion and Customs clearance facilitation.
Mr. Sagar Chordia, Director WTC Pune is hopeful that all these networking MoUs with Trade
Promotion Organizations will help achieve WTCA objectives of Prosperity Through Trade and
Investment.

MOU signed between WTC Pune and WTC Bangalore
Mr. Sagar Chordia of World Trade Center Pune (WTCP) has signed
Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Mr. Balaram Menon of
World Trade Center Bangalore, on February 5, 2015, in order to act as
a joint forum for knowledge sharing by organizing events and
information exchange of mutual interest.
The MOU encompasses hosting and participation in events like economic and trade exhibitions,
buyer-seller meets, business development meets, symposiums, seminars, workshops and related
literature both within and outside India.
Dr. Bose Nair of WTC Bangalore and Mr. Nikhil Oswal of WTC Pune, who were also present at the
signing, will initiate activities to facilitate trade, investment and economic cooperation between
Bangalore and Pune. Both Bangalore and Pune are preferred locations considering the mature mix
of manufacturing and knowledge based global investment and footfall in the two cities.

WTC Pune and WTC Mumbai signs MOU
In midst of “2015 WTC Trade Services Training Program” held in
Mumbai, World Trade Center Pune and World Trade Centre Mumbai
have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) on June 5’ 2015.
While signing the document, Mr. Y.R. Warerkar, Executive Director,
WTC Mumbai, expressed that “this collaborative effort will foster
mutual efforts to promote Trade and Investment activities between
the two WTCs.”
With this MoU, both parties envisage joint trade promotion events
like symposiums, seminars, buyer-seller meets, trade exhibitions,
training workshops to promote international trade. Ecstatic, Mr. Sagar Chordia, Director – WTC, Pune
said, “the rapid industrial and trade growth in Pune – Mumbai region will benefit from such
knowledge sharing initiatives.”
Mr. Sagar Chordia, Director and Mr. Nikhil Oswal of WTC Pune participated in the WTCA Training
Program on Trade Services held on 3-5 June 2015. The training programme saw some interactive
participation from WTCs across India. Mr. Scott Wang, VP (Asia Pacific) World Trade Centers
Association (WTCA) was the keynote speaker at the session. The programme provided systematic
training for WTC operation with a focus on trade services, which is critical for young WTCs in South
Asia and other parts of Asia Pacific region to succeed.

March 18’ 2015.
MOU with VERBIND encompasses hosting and
participation in various trade events like buyer-
seller meet, business development meet,
symposium, seminar, trade exhibition, workshop
to promote international trade and services. Currently, VERBIND is promoting and assisting WTCs in
India including Noida, GIFT CITY-Gujarat, Faridabad, Chandigarh, Surat, and Lucknow. During the
signing Mr. Pankaj Ojha of WTC Pune and Mr. Nikhil Oswal were also present.
REGUS Business Centre in WTC Pune was inaugurated in presence of Mr.Sagar Chordia, Director WTC
Pune and Overseas Management Team of REGUS.

Port of Antwerp signs MoU with WTC Pune
World Trade Center Pune in association with Pune Customs House
Agents’ Association (PCHAA), Federation of Indian Exports Organisation
(FIEO), Flanders Investment and Trade (FIT) and MCCIA hosted the Port
of Antwerp road-show in Pune on 10th Feb. 2015 at JW Marriott.
Mr. Luc Arnouts, Chief Commercial Officer of The Antwerp Port
Authority, Belgium and Mr. Sagar Chordia, Director, World Trade Center
Pune signed a Memorandum of Understanding initiating co-operation
between the two organisations to promote mutual foreign trade and
investment.
The event saw overwhelming participation of the Supply Chain industry including global freight
forwarders, custom house brokers, shipping lines, and foreign trade industry from Pune region.

Interaction with Governor Nikki Haley Governor of South Carolina, USA
WTC Pune India and its MoU partner - US-India Importers’ Council (USIIC)
shared honours to welcome Governor Ms. Nikki R. Haley State of South
Carolina, USA at Mumbai. The dinner reception event was co-hosted by
USIIC with US-India Investors Forum (USIIF) on Wednesday 19th
November, 2014. Recently in 2017 Ms. Nikki Haley has been appointed as
the US Ambassador to the United Nations.
Governor Nikki was on an India visit to explore and expand the bi-lateral
trade ties and tourism between South Carolina, USA and India. She gave
her insights on the mutual opportunities to doyens of Indian industry -
WTC - USIIC - USIIF members present. Mr. Nikhil Oswal from WTC Pune interacted with Governor and
her team.
Delegation included The Honorable Ms. Nikki Randhawa Haley - Governor of South Carolina, USA,
Ms. Katherine Veldran - Office of the Governor, Mr. W. Ford Graham - SC Department of Commerce,
Director of International Investment, Mr. Morgan Crapps – Project Manager of South Carolina
Department of Commerce, Governor was accompanied by a trade delegation and officials from US

The Indo-American Chamber of Commerce – West India hosted a
high-level delegation on Ports and Infrastructure at Mumbai, India
on December 4, 2014.
Delegation was accompanied by The Indo-American Chamber of

At the interactive session on Ports & Infrastructure, Mr. Nikhil

Annual Fellowship Night at JW Marriott, Pune
At a signature event of the Indo-American Chamber of Commerce,
Pune Annual Fellowship Nite held on 20th March 2014 at JW Marriott in
Pune, WTC Pune played the pivotal role in getting together IACC and
Pennsylvania Trade & Investment group on a common platform to
discuss the mutual business potential.
Annual Fellowship Nite helped in a video conference of IACC Pune and
its members to Pennsylvania for a session on ‘Pennsylvania: Your
gateway to North America’.
The Representatives were glad to discuss on guidance provided to foreign investors as well as the
economic development and business incentives that would benefit Indian companies considering
business expansion in Pennsylvania.
While speaking at the event, Mr Shalendra Porwal, Chairman, Indo-American Chamber of Commerce
Pune Branch, informed, “As a catalyst for promoting bilateral economic growth, IACC is actively
establishing relationships between Indian and the US organization. Today, there are many
opportunities in India for American businesses to expand their operations in technology and
education”.
