Do you want to truly want to learn more?Is a graduate degree necessary in your field? Will you have greater credibility as a professional in your field?

ORAre you not sure what else to do after college?

Are you reluctant to search for a job or feel you are not ready for one?

Are you feeling pressure from friends or family to go?

Paying for Graduate School Grants: FREE MONEY from the state & federal

government or the university. Commonly need-based.

Scholarships: FREE MONEY. Financial reward commonly given on the basis of academic achievement. Some take into account financial need.

Assistantships: Part-time position working on-campus, in a university department office. Commonly cover tuition & some positions also provide a small stipend (paycheck).

Junior Year (all year) Research field of interest.

June/July, Entering Senior Year Identify 5-6 potential programs. Review program admission requirements & deadlines. Visit universities, if possible. Speak with admissions, faculty & current students, if

possible.

August/September, Senior Year Study for & complete practice Admissions Tests. Identify top-choice graduate programs to apply to. *Include safety school & dream school.

Take Admissions Tests needed.

October/November, Senior Year Identify (3) references & ask if they will write letter of

reference. Visit Career Center for final revisions on resume. Draft your personal statement & visit writing center for

feedback.

December/January, Senior Year Completely finalize your Personal Statement. Gather all of your application materials. Complete application & send all materials. Send “Thank You” to all references. January 1st – fill out FAFSA form.

Spring, Senior Year Complete mock interview at Career Center or

InterviewStream to prepare for graduate school interview.

*Most schools notify by mid-April.
