Futureversity believes all young people have the potential to be extraordinary. They provide free courses and activities for 11-25 year olds to help them develop the skills and self-belief they need to make the most of their lives. Their programmes have been proven to raise aspirations, reduce youth crime, break down racial tensions and get unemployed young people off benefits and into work.

Previously known as Tower Hamlets Summer University, they changed their name in 2010 to reflect their growing network outside the borough. They continue to run their core activities from Tower Hamlets (most are open to young people from across the capital) and also roll out their summer programme to other London boroughs.

• Between1995and2003,TowerHamletscrimefiguresshowed that Futureversity contributed to reducing juvenile nuisance by 17%, drug offences by 25% and an overall reduction in youth crime by 8% over the summer holiday period, even though the borough had the fastest growingteenagepopulationinBritainatthattime.

Newark Youth London’s activities are youth club and sports based. We use football to engage young people and then encourage them to participate in our other activities. The key concerns are the social and personal development of young people in Tower Hamlets; focusing more on young people that are vulnerable from negative peer groups.

Tender is a charity that works to promote healthy relationships based on equality and respect. Using theatre and the arts, they engage young people in violence prevention, enabling them to recognise and avoid abuse and violence.

Tender was established in 2003 and, since then, have worked with thousands of young people and professionals to educate them about positive relationships and creating supportive, abuse-free communities. They challenge attitudes which tolerate, condone and normalise violence and increase skills in safeguarding against unhealthy relationships.

They work in schools, youth centres, pupil referral units, offices and healthcare settings creating tailored projects which offer support and meet specific needs. Tender aims to engage, to challenge, to entertain and to provoke a fundamental reassessment

of our tolerance to abuse.
