October 2012 saw the opening of the Dubarry Flagship Store at 35 College Green, in the heart of Dublin. Situated in Ireland’s capital city’s prime retail area and opposite the beautiful buildings of Trinity College, the store showcases the full Dubarry Premium Performance Lifestyle Collection.

The store has been designed to make shopping with Dubarry a unique experience and features a carefully created interior that

is both welcoming and relaxing. You will find the Dubarry team here is friendly, helpful and knowledgeable ensuring a memorable shopping experience.

The opening of 35 College Green is a very significant step for Dubarry and it is appropriate that, as an Irish brand, our first Flagship Store should be located in Dublin.

Special guests at the official launch of the flagship store were Paul Howard, renowned author and creator of the satirical fictional character Ross O’ Carroll Kelly, as well as artist Alan Clarke. The evening consisted of excerpt readings by Paul Howard from his books, in which Dubes are mentioned regularly, accompanied by Alan Clarke’s real-time illustrations. The event was attended by representatives of the media, retail partners of Dubarry and many sponsored individuals and teams that are strongly associated with the brand.

from their wages. Wages back then were around 2 shillings, 6 pence a week, so it is clear to see what a luxury item Chrissie’s shoes were.

Another prized item from 1937 that Dubarry hold is the very first Wages Book. One of the employees listed is Matty McNally, 90, who still lives in Ballinasloe and worked for Dubarry for over 50 years.

Matty’s son Matthew still works for Dubarry today in the Customer Service Department as does Sean Og Hurley , Dubarry’s Personnel Director - whose aunt is Chrissie. This is a legacy of Dubarry’s strong links with the town and the fact that working for the company was very family orientated down through the years.

Today Dubarry is a multi-national company selling in over 25 countries, designing and developing not only shoes, but also our world-famous boots, including the classic Galway, as well as a collection of clothing, bags and accessories.

We have never lost sight of our roots or the importance of those who work for us. We are still based in Ballinasloe, and are proud of our heritage and the inspiration we find here in Ireland.

It was a great year for us with opening of the Dubarry Flagship Store in Dublin, the launch of our new GORE-TEX® clothing range, further expansion across the globe and attendance at some great new events. We also thanked our loyal and hardworking staff with a special party in the Abbeyglen Hotel in Connemara County Galway, because it’s their dedication and skill that makes Dubarry what it is. As part of our 75th anniversary we also, with your help, raised over €60,000 for Breast Cancer Research.

Slightly scuffed and a little worn, but after 75 years Chrissie Shanley’s Dubarry shoes still look elegant and surprisingly contemporary in style. Their long life and looks are testament to the quality and care put into their manufacture in Ballinasloe - an ethic Dubarry of Ireland has passionately maintained since these shoes were made in 1937.

The factory was built after the local Chamber of Commerce investigated ways to bring employment to the town. Local investment allowed the building of a new factory in the Old Workhouse with the purpose of manufacturing high quality shoes. The founders of the co-operative wanted to be different from other Irish brands and also felt the company needed a continental European flavour for their enterprise, so after some research decided upon the name Dubarry, after Madame du Barry, a famous French beauty and courtesan to Louis XV.

With the factory ready and a name in place production started on the 3rd March, 1937. Chrissie Shanley, 91, was born Ballinasloe and has lived there all her life. She bought her shoes shortly after starting work at the new factory as a machinist, and they cost her 15 shillings at the time. Employees could spread the payment with deductions

As part of the company’s 75th Anniversary Dubarry produced limited edition versions of its Galway country lifestyle and Ultima sailing boots incorporating the iconic Pink Ribbon logo. We then invited our customers to pledge a donation to secure a pair of these fabulous boots. And they did us proud!

Thanks to them we raised €60,900 and all proceeds have been donated by Dubarry to the National Breast Cancer Research Institute. At our flagship store opening evening the cheque was handed over by Dubarry’s Marketing Director, Michael Walsh to Dr. Roisin Dwyer from NBCRI.

Dubarry of Ireland is based in Galway, so it is only natural that when we started designing and building the world’s best sailing boots we should take much of our inspiration from the heritage, the challenging landscape and the rugged majesty of this beautiful region. We also talked to those who work and race on the sea, because if you are going to make footwear that needs to perform, then you need to get feedback and advice from those who know what it’s like onboard.

Our first dedicated sailing boot was Shamrock. Created with a combination of traditional skills, technology and Irish flair. But what made Shamrock even more special was that it was the world’s first sailing boot with a GORE-TEX® liner. It became a legend and is as popular today as it’s always been.

Other performance boots followed, including the lightweight Newport and the classic, all-Leather Ultima. All made from Dubarry’s DryFast - DrySoftTM leathers and combined with our award-winning NonSlip - NonMarkingTM sole, which is based on Formula 1 tyre technology.

We also designed Lahinch, a high-performance, lightweight deck shoe. This trainer-style shoe utilises Dubarry’s special D-Chassis System, which provides superb foot and ankle support.

But even though these boots and shoes are trusted and used by sailors worldwide, we knew we could raise the bar even higher.It was thanks to consultation with the Green Dragon Volvo Ocean Race team in 2009 that work began on our ultimate performance sailing boot. Taking all our expertise and an understanding of what top class sailors demand, we created Crosshaven. The crews of Telefonica and Abu Dhabi Ocean Racing benefitted from these developments in the 2011/12 Volvo Ocean Race.

With its unique integral gaiter, thermally insulated GORE-TEX® liner and Dubarry’s special D-Chassis System, Crosshaven has become the sailing boot of choice for the world’s best, proving its capabilities on the best boats in the toughest sailing conditions imaginable.

Our reputation for designing great kit is unsurpassed, but we won’t rest on our laurels.

The Royal Cork Yacht Club is the oldest in the world. Its distinguished history began when Charles II of England, who had acquired a passion for sailing, is said to have inspired Murrough O’Brien, the 6th Lord Inchiquin, to take up the pastime, who in turn encouraged private sailing in Cork Harbour. By 1720, interest in the sport had progressed so much that his great-grandson, the 26 year old William O’Brien, the 9th Lord Inchiquin, and five of his friends formally established “The Water Club of the Harbour of Cork”, which became the Royal Cork Yacht Club in 1831 when King William IV granted the club the privilege of using the Royal prefix.

The RCYC is based in Crosshaven, a small, peaceful village located where the Owenabue River enters the sea at the mouth of Cork harbour. From here, the Club organises and runs the world famous Cork Week, bringing together sailors and enthusiasts from around the world to enjoy the unique experience of this event with which Dubarry has had a long association down the years.

The RCYC is rightly proud of its traditions and a long and illustrious heritage. It is also proud of its welcoming attitude and of a continued programme to encourage sailing at all levels and for all ages.

H e n r y ’s h o r s e sHenry O’Toole’s family have been breeding Connemara Ponies since 1979. Based in Clifden on the beautiful and dramatic coast of Connemara, they have bred many champions and their ponies are sought the world over to help preserve the pure bloodline of Ireland’s native horse.

Connemaras are agile and sure-footed with a keen intelligence. Grey is the most familiar colour but they can also be black, bay, brown, dun with occasional roan and chestnut, palamino and dark-eyed cream.

CLEANING THE LEATHERHeavy mud and dirt should be removed initially under the tap with water and a brush. Make sure that yard manure and waste liquids are thoroughly rinsed off immediately with fresh tap water. The same applies to seawater and/or salt. The first part of the Dubarry care programme uses our scrub Cleaner, which has been developed using skin care technology. It contains a light beaded material that aids in the removal of dirt and other residues. It leaves the footwear in prime condition ready for proofing and conditioning.

Whatever the weather or conditions you know you can rely on your Dubarry boots and shoes to keep you warm, dry and protected, year in, year out. But to be sure you get the very best performance from them, the premium leather used to create your footwear needs looking after.

CONDITIONING THE LEATHERDubarry Conditioner is water-based flurochemical. It will condition the leather bringing it back to that new look while also offering water repellency and high levels of oil and stain resistance. It is of particular benefit to smooth and full grain leathers.

PROTECTING THE LEATHERDubarry Protector was the world’s first water-based fluorochemical spray for footwear. The spray, in addition to restoring a water-repellent finish, offers a high-resistance to oil and stains. It is extremely durable and will work on all types of nubuck and suede leather.

EXTRA PROTECTIONIn addition to the other three products described here, Dubarry strongly recommends for well-worn boots the use of our Leather Cream, especially in the flex part of the foot. This will help to protect, preserve and soften the leather. The Leather Cream is only to be used on the smooth leather.

DRYING THE LEATHERAllow the boots to dry naturally before any further treatment. Never use artificial heat or leave in proximity to an open fire. For best results, air dry for a minimum of 48 hours.

IMPORTANT: yard manure, waste liquids and salt water can be very corrosive to leather. To prolong performance and protection for your Dubarrys, always scrub them with a brush and rinse with fresh tap water after exposure.

Using a Dubarry Boot Jack to remove your Dubarry boots you will help prolong the life of the leather, by easing wear and tear that the repeated action of pulling boots on and off can cause.
