Why forest based bioeconomy?
• Global economic, social and environmental challenges and potential role of bioeconomy in its solution
• Forests, forestry and the forest-based sector as• the cornerstone of the European bioeconomy,
• a major contributor to climate change mitigation
• Arising questions: technologies, markets, global biomass demand and supply, policy framework, ability to use forests in a sustainable way
• Forest bioeconomy and globalization, the digital economy and symbiosis with other sectors: construction, chemicals, textiles and energy, etc.

• Distinctive ecological and social characteristics of the region
• Untapped potential to contribute to the leading role played by the forest sector in the global bioeconomy

• YLP targets the leaders of that future, bringing young professionals together with experts to create a new space where change can happen
• Young professionals will interact with global and regional leaders, network with peers and develop strategic thinking on how to manage and use forest resources to address societal challenges

Programme objectives
• Improve the understanding on the current state and trends of Mediterranean forests and the underlying social and ecological processes
• Visualise existing opportunities for social, managerial, policy and business innovation and entrepreneurship
• Develop strategic thinking capacities and other leadership soft skills
• Facilitate networking with peers and provide insights on the functioning of relevant international organizations as EFI, FAO-Silva-Mediterranea, UfM

Day 6. Field visit
• Visit to 2 private forests in the Natural Park of Montnegre – Corredor:
• Multifunctional Mediterranean forestry in practice: technical and social innovation to boost the production of NWFP (cork and pine kernels) in Catalonia
• Integration of fire, water and biodiversity objectives into firewood production
• Tour starts at 09.00 from Sant Pau and comes back at 14.00
