Today’s Speaker is Shelby Berry, Beaufort Soil & Water Conservation Dis-

trict, District Manager. Beaufort Soil & Water Conservation District is in the second

year of a contract with Neighbors for Clean Water (Beaufort County, City of Beaufort, and

the Towns of Hilton Head Island, Bluffton, & Port Royal) to provide Education Outreach &

Public Participation. Shelby says in her biography: "I spent most of my formative years in an

Atlanta suburb. As a child I attended a camp near Charlotte, NC where I made a lot of close

friends all over the eastern US. When I was at University of Georgia, I would frequently visit

some of my friends who were attending Clemson. Clemson accepted me as an out of state

student, but a friend helped me get In to Winthrop as a resident and I completed my Biology

Degree. I worked with the Rock Hill Water & Sewer as a lab analyst. I met my husband in a

graduate Entomology Class and we ended up in Beaufort where I worked for several years

at the City of Beaufort Treatment Plant which is now a park. I now work at the Beaufort Soil

& Water Conservation District. I am called the District Manager and that simply means that

I “hold the fort down” by taking care of the business of the district. My husband & I have

three boys, 2 of which are Clemson Grads (no pushing on my part except for going to col-

lege) and one is getting married this year. I attend Carteret St. United Methodist Church,

belong to Sea Island Quilters, and occasionally enjoy horseback riding. "
