The caterpillar felt ill. It was a big fat caterpillar now. The caterpillar built a cocoon. It was in the cocoon for two weeks.

Can children write final sentence alongside an illustration?

Go on a bug hunt and make a tally chart of the minibeasts they spot outside.

Look at different ways to make 10 with objects in your house, e.g., coins, toys, fruit etc.

Explore halving in the house – e.g., when eating, encourage your child to halve their food – how do they know they have halved it? – encourage them to explain. What is half of 10? What is 10 halves of?

Before half term we looked at our daily routine. This week, look at your weekly routine – are there things you do on certain days? Create a calendar for your week and encourage the children to identify what day and date it each day.

Days of the week song: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=spi77By9-iA

Understanding the World (Technology and the World)

Go for a walk or go into the garden for a bug hunt. Which minibeasts can you find? Encourage children to look at habitats and find out what kind of environment each insect likes. They could sketch the minibeasts and build a bug hotel.

Use technology in the house to research different kinds of caterpillars and the caterpillar life cycle. Encourage children to create a representation of the lifecycle. If possible, this could be done using technology you have at home. Please let us know how independently your child was able to use the device.

Write the tricky words on the floor can you throw a bean bag or object on the correct tricky word when it

is called.

Hide an object under a cup can you find the object, say the

digraph that you think is hiding the object. Use the sounds you

are unsure about.
