Notes to the Financial Statements (i) each complete footnote tagged as a single block of text;
(ii) each significant accounting policy within the significant accounting policies footnote tagged as a single block of text;
(iii) each table within each footnote tagged as a separate block of text; and
(iv) within each footnote, each amount (i.e., monetary value, percentage, and number) separately tagged.
Supplemental Schedules (i) each complete schedule tagged as a single block of text;
(ii) within each schedule, each amount (i.e., monetary value, percentage, and number) separately tagged.
Why Are We Talking About Dimensions?

• Tables in Year 1
– Classes of stock in Statement of Stockholder’s Equity
– Limited legal entities
– Face of the Financials is relatively “flat”
• Tables in Year 2
• Over 200 dimensional tables
• Highly concentrated in the Notes
• SEC recommends using table structures where UGT is dimensional
Year 1: 2-3 “Tables”; expands in Year 2 to many
Why Care About “Dimensions”?
slide 3
Copyright 2012 XBRL US, Inc. All rights reserved. XBRL US is the national consortium of xml business reporting standards
• Pre-dimensions
– Line item (Revenue) • Found in taxonomies
– Which was reported • For an organization
• Perhaps a segment
• At a point in time
• Perhaps a reporting scenario
– Found in an instance document
• Dimensions – Line items (columns or “y-axis”)
– Associated with a table
– The table is associated with additional dimensions (axes) (rows, “x” and other axes)
– Defined in taxonomy in definition linkbase
– Portrayed in presentation linkbase
– Axis and value (member) pairs in instance
XBRL began with line items at a point in time

• Line item: The “noun”, generally the major reporting concept, like “Revenue”
• Table: Contains one or more Dimensions (Axis + Domain), Domain Members and associated with a group of Line Items
• Axis: Dimensions are used to differentiate reported information. Each Axis represents a way that the information may be classified. For example, Revenue might be associated with a Business Segments Axis, a Geographical Axis or a Products and Services Axis

• Domain: a set or list of items (Members) with common characteristics such as a list of Countries or Reporting Segments
• Member: (or Domain Member): An item representing one of the possibilities within a Domain, such as a specific Country or Segment

Linkbase
The XBRL Specification defines two components: 1) Taxonomies, which provides business reporting concepts and data structure
2) Instances, which provides the reported information as described by the taxonomy
3) Dimensions are defined in the definition linkbase, portrayed in the presentation linkbase

• Dimensional concepts are defined in the taxonomy
• Relationships between the dimension concepts formally defined in definition linkbase – Table is add-on to line items
• Table mirrored with minor changes in presentation linkbase – Table encompasses line items
• Values are created in the instance document
– Made up of line item + axis/member pairs in associated context (segment)

Table Structure Comparison
Presentation linkbase to
Definition linkbase • The definition linkbase is the
“true” technical design of the
table; the presentation linkbase
seeks to make it more intuitive.
• The [Table] in the definition
linkbase does not include the
line items. (The y-axis falls
outside of the table.)
• The [Table] in the presentation
linkbase includes the line items
– everything falls under the
table.

• Although the mechanism to bring together line items and additional attributes is called “tables”, the content that needs to be dimensionalized may appear in either a presentation table or just as numbers in paragraphs of text.
• Level iii tagging (every “table”) is not the same as dimensional table
• Presentation tables may be “flat” (line items only)

Note 12. Fair Value Measurements
The Company’s $34 million and $57 million in cash equivalents at June 30, 2013 and December 31, 2012, respectively, were carried at fair value in the Balance Sheets based on quoted market prices for identical securities (Level 1 inputs).

•Having to explicitly create a new taxonomy element for
every combination of line item, axis and domain member
can be difficult to manage
•Analyzing the breakdowns by one of the axes or a
combination of the axes is relatively simple when
dimensionalized, requires pattern matching or keeping
lists of related items in non-dimensional approach

• Reference linkbase
Links concepts to authoritative reference materials such as FASB codification.
• Deprecated element - An element no longer supported in the current taxonomy, should not be used.

• Types of textblocks
Level 1 - Disclosure textblocks
Tagging each complete footnote as a single block of text.
Level 2 - Policy textblocks
Requires that each significant accounting policy within the significant accounting policies footnote be tagged as a single block of text. The tagging methodology for level 2 is the same as level 1

• Document entity information –
DEI provides information on the corporate entity and the document being reported; this information is typically found on the front of a Form 10-K or 10-Q (i.e. company name, FYE, cover sheet declarations)
• Abstract –
A container that has no fact value, it contains other concepts

• Calculation relationships
Additive relationships between numeric items expressed as parent-child hierarchies
• Calculation weights –
Each calculation child has a weight attribute (+1 or -1) based upon its natural balance of the parent and child items.

• Labels
A Label is a human-readable name for an element; each element has a standard label that corresponds to the element name, and is unique across the taxonomy. Types of labels include: – Preferred
– Standard Label
– Total
– Period start/end
– Terse/verbose
– Documentation label
– Negated
XBRL Terminology

• Standard label role–
Name of the financial concept being reported, if the element is not presented as a total or as a beginning or ending balance
• Documentation label role –
Documentation label roles enable additional textual descriptions to be added to a concept

• Terse, Verbose and Negating Labels -
Additional labels that can be used for an element to differentiate values presented multiple times with different human readable labels (terse and verbose labels) or with different signs (use Negating labels if in your presentation of a line item, the sign flips between statements)
XBRL Terminology
Copyright 2012 XBRL US, Inc. All rights reserved. XBRL US is the national consortium of xml business reporting standards
• Terse label - Short label role for a concept, often omitting text that should be inferable when the concept is reported in the context of other related concepts.
• Verbose label - Extended label for a concept, making sure not to omit text that is required to enable the label to be understood on a stand alone basis
• Negating label – A mechanism to visualize the negation of displayed numeric values. Negating labels affect only the visualization of the reported data and not the data itself (there is no influence on the sign of reported facts).

Assigned to a specific presentation link to determine which label role is used when presented
For example, the preferred label role for cash dividends is:
http://xbrl.us/CorporateActions/role/eventLabel/CashDividend.
Total label role –
Use if same element appears with different labels if shown as a summation of other line items, also impacts SEC viewer
