Theexportingsysteminitiatesthenegotiationofanassociationwiththemerge3srvapplicationrunningonXiOoverthenetwork.Themerge3srvapplicationwillnegotiatewiththeclientandaccepttheassociationifitcanperformtherequestedservice.Iftheassociationisacceptedbytheserver,anyDICOMobjectsaretransferredfromtheclienttomerge3srvovertheassociationandstoredinatemporarydirectoryontheXiOsystem.Whenthetransferiscompletetheclientapplicationclosestheassociation.Later,theXiOuserimportsacceptableDICOMdataintotheXiOapplicationatwhichpointitisconvertedtotheinternalXiOformat.

IftheDICOMheaderfora16‐bitCTimagefiledefinesapixelpaddingvalue,XiOwillconvertallpixelsequaltothatpaddingvaluetotheminimumpixelvaluethatcanberepresentedbythedatatypeofthatimage.ItisassumedthattheCTmanufacturerhasselectedapaddingpixelvaluethatisoutsidetherangeofthepixelvaluesthatmakeuptheimage.PixelPaddingvaluesareignoredforMRandPET.

XiOwillapplytheslopeandintercepttothepixelvaluesforCTandPETimagesbeforesavingtheminXiO’sinternalformat.XiOwillnotapplyanyslopeandinterceptforMRimages.
