XIV Workshop on Resistive Plate Chambers and related detectors (RPC2018) Puerto Vallarta, Mexico, February 19-23, 2018 Bulletin No. 3 The XIV workshop on Resistive Plate Chambers and related detectors (RPC2018) will take place for the first time in the American continent. RPC2018 continues the tradition of regular scientific meetings, first started in 1991 at Lecce, with following editions in Roma, Pavia, Napoli, Bari, Coimbra, Clermont-Ferrand, Seoul, Mumbai, Darmstadt, Frascati, Beijing, and Ghent. The RPC detection technique has found large application in LHC detectors and in astroparticle physics experiments. This edition of the workshop will focus on the design, performance and possible upgrade scenarios of large RPC systems, ageing and detector materials studies, electronics for RPCs, detector gas studies, applications of RPC detectors outside (astro) particle physics, and new ideas for RPC systems. Specially concentrating our attention to new collaborations and participations in America, from Canada to Argentina. We are also adding, for the first time a “hands on RPC detector school” for graduate students, a half a week before the Workshop (more information in next Bulletin). The workshop will have invited reviews and selected contributions, as well as a poster session. Limited support will be available for young deserving scientists. XIV Workshop on Resistive Plate Chambers and related detectors (RPC2018)

Puerto Vallarta, Mexico, February 19-23, 2018

Bulletin No. 3

The XIV workshop on Resistive Plate Chambers and related detectors (RPC2018) will take place for the first time in the American continent.

Venue

RPC2018 will be held at Puerto Vallarta, Jalisco named as “La ciudad más amigable del mundo” (The Friendliest City in the World). Gold beaches embrace the calm waters of the Bay of Banderas, one of the largest, deepest bays in the world. This aquatic haven is home of myriad species, a source of both abundant seafood and diverse recreational activities. It shelters Puerto Vallarta from storms and provides a protected habitat for endangered sea turtles and whales that give birth on its shores and its warm waters each year. The heart of the city remains in Old Town and the lively Malecón that runs along the shoreline and retains its rustic charm and small Mexican town ambient.

The conference will be held with all the commodities and facilities of an all-inclusive hotel. The Hilton Puerto Vallarta Resort is in the Zona Hotelera of Puerto Vallarta.

Format of the workshop

Talks are by invitation and by selection of contributing papers. A poster session is foreseen as well.

All meals are included, if staying at the Conference Hotel.

Accommodation

A number of rooms have been reserved for the duration of the conference in the hotel where the workshop is held. The reservation will expire on December 10th, 2017. As a special presentation we will have a Tequila tasting and sampling event.

An additional social event (not included in registration fee) will be a whale photo safari: Each winter, the humpback whales migrate from their arctic feeding grounds to breed and rear their young in the sheltered coasts of Banderas Bay. This makes Puerto Vallarta one of North America’s premier whale watching locations. Because of this the whale sighting is guaranteed. The cost of this excursion will be:
