Meet the Staff:
Beth Campbell is committed to excellence in customer service. Before starting her career with CountryLink in
1999 at Camden NSW, Beth spent many years as a professional hairdresser.
“I am used to listening to people and understanding their needs,” she says. “When the opportunity came up to join CountryLink, I didn’t hesitate as I have always been committed to providing good customer service.”
As a Passenger Service Supervisor for CountryLink, it is Beth’s role to ensure the smooth running of passenger safety and comfort during long distance journeys as well as the management of onboard staff.
“Depending on the type of trip we’re doing generally I am called on to prepare the train for safety checks, to make sure everything is working correctly, meeting and greeting passengers and assisting those who may have special needs,” Beth says.“Sometimes I do quite long journeys, for example, the Sydney to Grafton run is around 700 kilometres and I’ll stay overnight at various destinations.”
“On occasion, challenges can arise like the late running of a service. In these cases I will be called upon to make announcements to the passengers and to keep them abreast of the situation, ensuring they are as comfortable as possible and have all the information they need at hand,” she says.
Beth says that what she enjoys most about her role is the variety it affords.“Every journey is different and so is the crew,” she says.” In a sense the challenges of the job are the rewards too.”
“Working for CountryLink suits me very well because not only is there a massive focus on customer safety and customer service, which I enjoy, but there is also great flexibility to work the hours that fit best with your lifestyle.”
“At the moment I’m on the Explorer service from Moree, where I wear a variety of hats,” laughs Beth.
“That’s the thing I like most about working for CountryLink,” she says, “Unlike many other places it’s somewhere you’ll never get bored in your role.”

Enhance your Wardrobe
It’s a Sleevolution
Sleeve-ons are the newest must-have addition to any woman’s wardrobe. Worn under or over
sleeveless garments, they add short, three-quarter or long sleeves to an outfit.
The Brisbane born company was formed when founder, Wendy Maniatis had an all too familiar dressing dilemma as the changing weather posed a problem for the outfit she had in mind.
“I work long hours and the weather can be totally different as the day goes on,” Wendy said. “I wanted to wear my favourite sleeveless dress because I knew it would be warm enough later and found myself wishing I could just put on some temporary sleeves!”
With this, Wendy didn’t just stick it out until mid morning like most of us are guilty of, but decided to take action.
“I went to the internet to look for such a thing, but to my utter surprise no such product existed,” she continued. “With that, I sat down at my sewing machine, cut a pattern and made sleeves to help transform my sleeveless dress into a short-sleeved dress.”
“In the days following, I made sleeves in a variety of colours, prints and lengths to suit the sleeveless garments in my wardrobe and then decided that every woman should have the same luxury.”
Making any sleeveless item of clothing suitable for every season, Sleeve-ons can

be worn under your garment and matched to the colour so it blends to look like sleeves, or coordinated with a pattern giving a bolder look. Alternatively, they can be worn over the outfit as a shrug creating a different look once again.
In the coming months, Wendy is working on additional styles with embellishments including pearls, cuffs, buttons, binding, ruching, rhinestones, fur, sparkles and sequins.
With all material sourced in Australia, the quality of Sleeve-ons is second to none and Wendy backs this up with a 100 per cent hassle-free policy for returns and exchanges.
“We understand that when buying online, you might order the incorrect size or sometimes just change your mind,” Wendy said. “If this is the case, you can return the item within 30 days from the date of purchase for a full refund or exchange.” Made in

If you’re a fan of the television show CSI you’re going to want to get to the Gold Coast as it exclusively hosts CSI: The Experience’s first ever visit to Australia,
following its international triumphs.
The interactive exhibition is based on the multi
award winning and long
running hit television crime drama series CSI: Crime Scene Investigation. CSI: The Experience exhibition invites visitors to assume the role of a forensic detective to solve cases using scientific principles and techniques currently in use today and as seen on the CSI television programs.
From DNA and firearms analysis to forensic anthropology and toxicology, visitors will have the opportunity to actively engage in a new form of interactive and experiential learning.
Designed for visitors 11 years of age and older, the 1,110 square-metre exhibition was developed in consultation with 175 forensic
science experts and guides visitors through an intriguing
process that closely copies the realities of crime scene investigation.
Upon entering the exhibition, the newly hired ‘detectives’ are inducted into the
realm of forensic science through a video introduction by Anthony E. Zuiker, the
creator and executive producer of the CSI television series. Real-life forensic scientist Ron Singer then briefly summarises the science to be found in the exhibit before CSI’s

lead investigator ‘Gil Grissom’ outlines his role as supervisor for the new ‘recruits’ and as usual recommends they ‘follow the evidence’ to their eventual conclusion.
The detectives then travel through one of three intricately constructed ‘crime scenes’ to identify and record evidence.
State-of-the-art ‘crime labs’ assist them to piece together evidence from the ‘crime scene’ whilst an ‘autopsy’ room explains the process of pathology analysis.
With guidance in the form of video messages from the much loved past and present characters from the television show, the detectives will be invited to present their findings to team supervisor ‘Gil Grissom’ in his ‘office’ in the hopes of solving the case. Successful detectives are rewarded with a personalised crime scene diploma upon cracking the case they have been assigned.
Originally developed by the Fort Worth Museum of Science and History with a grant from The National Science Foundation (NSF), CSI: The Experience has been exhibited across the United States, Europe, and Asia with the Surfers Paradise exhibition being the first foray into Oceania.
CSI: The Experience is open at Piazza Surfers Paradise from 10am to 10pm daily (last entry at 8.30pm and closed Christmas Day). To avoid the queue and pre book your tickets, phone 132 849 or visit www.ticketek.com.au/csi

This bustling town is the largest in Narrabri Shire and is the focal point for business, shopping, sports and entertainment. Narrabri is a scenic beauty, with the Namoi
River flowing through the town centre and residents enjoying spectacular views of the Nandewar Ranges. Narrabri is set amongst the most fertile agricultural land in the north-west slopes and plains. Covering an area of over 13,000 km2, Narrabri Shire includes the towns of Wee Waa and Boggabri and the villages of Baan Baa, Bellata, Edgeroi, Gwabegar and Pilliga.
The lively main street caters for all tastes. Major national retailers share bright and breezy Maitland Street, with family owned stores and tempting eateries. Rumoured to be the “café central” of the North West, the popular eateries in Narrabri’s Maitland Street strive to please the ever-growing group of “latte sippers” in town. The main street offers a selection of dining options from cafés, restaurants, pubs, clubs and take-away shops.
They call the area “Big Sky Country” for a reason so why not enjoy a short 25km drive from Narrabri to CSIRO Australia Telescope – the most advanced array of telescopes in the Southern Hemisphere.
What’s more, Narrabri Shire boasts two distinct wildlife areas: Mt Kaputar National Park, featuring amazing rock formations and views over the expansive plains and the Pilliga State Forest, with an abundance of birdlife. Call into the recently renovated Visitor Information Centre for more information on the sites and activities that can be enjoyed in Narrabri Shire.

Held during the second week of January from the 11th to the 15th this year, the CountryLink Parkes Elvis Festival is
marking its 20th anniversary in 2012.
It’s been 34 years since Elvis left the building, yet an expected 15,000+ Elvis fans will gather in the Central NSW town of Parkes, doubling the population, to celebrate Elvis Presley's birthday in January.
Record crowds are expected for the 20th anniversary of the CountryLink Parkes Elvis Festival with the theme 'Follow that Dream’ proving popular.
So in celebration of its two decades, we thought we’d take a look back to how it all began.
The first thing you might be thinking is why an Elvis Festival in Parkes?
Parkes has a bunch of passionate Elvis fans - one local Elvis fan has even changed his name to Elvis by deed poll and another local couple operated 'Gracelands Restaurant' for many years. The Festival concept was conceived by

these and other passionate community members, who saw potential for a fun event. January was identified as the perfect time to stage the event, being a slow time in local tourism and also coinciding with Elvis Presley's Birthday (8th January).
The Festival has sparked a boom in awareness of Parkes as a tourist destination. Since the Australian movie 'The Dish' hit the big screen, Parkes had been best known as the home of Radio Telescope, but now the town has become widely recognised as the Elvis Capital of Australia!
The Festival's events are held over five days (Wednesday to Sunday) and each year the program is extending, now with more than 140 individual events held across five days. The Festival program features Elvis concerts in club venues, an Elvis gospel church service, a street parade, free Elvis in the park entertainment and various other novelty events such as the 'Back to the Altar with Elvis - Renewal of Wedding Vows', and the 'TransTank Miss Priscilla Dinner and Big Hair Competition'.
The CountryLink Elvis Express train from Sydney to Parkes return is an annual highlight for Festival visitors. The Festival experience begins even before visitors arrive in town, as they are serenaded by Elvis all the way from Sydney on the Friday of the Festival.

Melbourne is bursting at the seams with an action packed events calendar kicking off the year featuring everything from international grand slams to world class food festivals.
Tennis fanatics get set for some grand slam action when the Australian Open hits Melbourne from the 16th to 29th January. Some of the biggest names in tennis will be heading down under to compete for the first grand slam title of the year at Melbourne Park. A sensational daily line-up of live entertainment completes the festival experience.
Summer also heralds the arrival of the St Kilda Festival, a free beach festival held throughout February with live bands and a great party atmosphere. On Sundays, you can grab a bargain or a fabulous piece of art at the St Kilda markets, then sample scrumptious cakes from the renowned Acland Street bakeries.
Make the most of long summer days and balmy nights and take to Melbourne’s rooftops where you can find extravagant bars and top notch dining while experiencing some of the city’s best views. Try a Pimms cocktail and nibble on cucumber sandwiches at Madame Brussels or catch a movie on the rooftop of Curtin House or at one of the countless other venues hosting movie nights across the city.
On the ground, sip a latte alfresco style in one of Melbourne’s popular laneway cafes, discover designer boutiques, lavish bars and cutting edge restaurants secreted in alleys and behind non-descript doors.
MelbourneSummer is also the time to enjoy Melbourne’s many lively outdoor markets, each with its own unique character, that buzz with life during the warmer months. The largest of them is the famous Queen Victoria Market, with an abundance of fresh produce, deli items, clothing and jewellery on offer. Another drawcard is its Suzuki Night Market, held every Wednesday night over summer, with hawker stalls, buskers and eclectic wares on sale.
In March, the Melbourne Food and Wine Festival dishes up over 250 delectable events to whet your appetite. The largest celebration of its kind in the world, this culinary extravaganza sees trailblazing chefs and winemakers flock to Melbourne to show us what’s hot on the global food radar.
Laugh yourself silly at the Melbourne International Comedy Festival or unveil your inner fashionista at the L’Oreal Melbourne Fashion Festival. Feel the excitement as you hear the roar of tyres at the 2012 FORMULA 1™ Australian Grand Prix, and marvel at the beautiful floral and landscape displays at the Melbourne International
Flower & Garden Show, the largest annual flower and garden show in the Southern Hemisphere.
Whether you are in search of arts and culture, fun and fashion, or luxury and indulgence, Melbourne will satisfy your craving this summer.

It’s that time of the year - families everywhere are looking for a much deserved getaway holiday, whether it be
up the coast, interstate or overseas.
Family travel can, at times, be stressful and Australia’s leading travel agency group, Travelscene American Express, understands that kids need to be entertained and budgets need to be followed.
Their top 5 tips when travelling with the family are:
1. Look for package deals. Most people book flights and accommodation separately which can end up in spending more than intended! Package deals can offer huge discounts, and travel agents are the most up to date with what’s hot and what’s not.
2. Use reward points such as airline frequent flyers or, if you’re an American Express card member, you can use your Membership Rewards points to pay for all or part of your travel. Using them for
your next family holiday means you save cash, and gain extra money to keep the kids entertained.
3. Choose hotels with free add-ons. Some hotels charge for the extras that can come free at other accommodation sites, such as internet access and breakfast. Taking the time to search around for what is included can be time consuming, but will ensure you have more spending money for activities.
4. Travel during non-peak periods. From mid-January onwards, many airfares, resorts and hotels move from a high season to a shoulder season pricing, which means less crowded resorts and hotels as well as great savings in the last weeks of school holidays. Wednesdays are also the cheapest days to fly, while weekends are most expensive. Ask your Travelscene American Express agent to help plan your family holiday so you get the best value deals on hotel rooms and flights.
5. Pack carefully! To keep children entertained, choose toys that will occupy your kids for long periods of time such as a board game or portable DVD player, while the classic games such as ‘I Spy’ can keep the whole family entertained. Luggage costs should also be kept in mind, so divide belongings in a carry-on or bring a second piece of luggage – which will still cost less than an overweight bag.
To help you plan your family holiday, talk to an experienced Travelscene American Express Member agent, who will provide direct access to airlines, hotels and tour operators, as well as exclusive deals only available through an agent. Contact your local Travelscene American Express Member on 13 TRAVEL (13 8728) or visit www.travelscene.net.au.

Nowadays, with internet options such as Google Places, Facebook, mobile marketing, Twitter, search engine optimisation, QR Codes and more, having only a website for
your business simply isn’t enough to get you noticed anymore.
While having a website is a great start, it’s only the tip of the iceberg that is internet marketing.
It’s a complete waste of time and money having a website that is buried on the second page of Google search, especially considering most people don’t even get past the first page. If you want to get your business noticed by Google, it’s no use playing follow the leader and doing exactly what all the other real estate agents, hairdressers, motels and the like are doing. You have to out run the competition.
So, how can you do this?
It’s simple; you optimise all of your internet activities to meet Google’s criteria.
Keywords, meta tags, geo targeting, SEO (search engine optimisation), backlinks, Google Places, Facebook fan pages and likes, Twitter profiles and tweets, YouTube channels, reviews, citations, and online business listings all contribute to the page position your business will achieve on Google. If done correctly, your business will stand out from the competition and achieve Google first page positions.
Aussie Local Marketing is a local business that has the online expertise to assist your business in achieving online success.

FAVOURITE TRAVEL DESTINATION:Fifi - With a love of history and art, I am always drawn to Europe when planning a holiday. I love walking the historic cities in Spain, Italy and France and eating everything in sight because the food is incredible. But I always return home exhausted and a few kilos heavier.
Jules - Hawaii is phenomenal. You’d think a place so well-known around the world as a tropical paradise would struggle to live up to expectation, but it actually exceeds it. And now with our strong Aussie dollar, it’s super cheap.
TRAVEL TIP:Jules - Don’t travel with Fifi Box. Some people have aura’s that surround them, Fifi has a Vortex... a tornado of haphazardness that sucks in everyone who travels with her. You’ll miss
flights, misplace baggage and somehow be seated in the same seat as her.
Fifi - Don’t travel with Jules Lund. Despite a decade working on a travel program, he still manages to leave his carry-on bags on the plane, leaves his wallet in the taxi, and forgets to book hotels so when you turn up in the middle of the night after a long flight, you get turned away.
MOST EMBARRASSING TRAVEL MOMENT: Fifi - I learnt the hard way not to wear underwire bras when going through US airport security checkpoints. Strip searches are no fun regardless of how attractive the guard is.
Jules - Well, the only thing more embarrassing than stripping down to a violet G-string with
the ‘Thunder From Down-Under’ in Vegas, was getting a spray tan the day before wearing nothing but a sock. Use your imagination. Actually... don’t do that.
WHAT ARE SOME EXCITING THINGS COMING UP FOR YOU?Jules – I’m just about to head off on a last minute trek to Everest Base-camp with Intrepid. Can’t wait! I’ve jogged around the block 3 times since Christmas, so I’m more than prepared.
Fifi - I’m about to travel through Austria and Germany and can’t wait to get stuck into some bratwurst, Bavarian cakes and strudel. I hope the hotels have a gym because I’m going to need to burn off some calories.
