Sons of Pericles

The 2018 AHEPA and Daughters of Penelope convention in Reno has been a great success ac-cording to many of those who participated. The well organized event allowed discussions and meetings to take place and better assist each chapter in district 21. The event also boosted the encouragement and the intent of the Sons of Pericles chapter in Fresno. I had the honor of repre-senting district 21 as warden elected unanimously by members present In the meeting. In the fu-ture, we are looking forward to increasing our community and growing the youth.

Father of the Year 2018 The Father of the Year was born in Lebanon. He moved to West Africa at the age of 20 to join one of his six sisters and brother-in-law. After working for a company for two years, he operated his own carpenter and construction business for 15-years. In 1967 he married his wife Fahda in Lebanon. Back in West Africa in 1967 and 1971 they welcomed their two sons, Fred and Joe. In 1976 he moved his family to Clovis, CA for a chance at a better future. In 1977 they wel-comed their third son. After four years in the USA as a con-tractor, he decided to open a large super market. In 1980 he moved his family to Los Angeles for a new import/export business. After four years they moved back to Fresno and opened Fresno Deli and Mediterranean Restaurant. After fifteen years the family sold the deli/restaurant. His hobbies include volunteering at the Greek Food Fest, hunting, traveling and helping his friends. He has two daughter-in-laws and four grandchildren. He is a loving husband, father, brother and friend. He is very ap-proachable with a welcoming smile and is always ready to help. His unselfish giving to family and community garnered our appreciation by honoring Deeb Tayar as Father of the Year.

Memorials in July Curt Jones: 15-years July 29th May their memory be eternal.

Give, give, give?Give, give, give? One day, a person complained to his priest that the Church and Christianity is one continual “give, give,

give.” To which the priest replied, “Thank you very much for the finest definition of Christianity I have ever heard. You’re right, Christianity is all about a constant “give, give, give.” God giving His only Son to the

world to show His unconditional love. His Son Jesus giving His life on the cross to forgive our sins and de-stroy death. Then our Lord’s disciples giving all they had to make sure God’s Good News of love was

preached to all people everywhere. They not only gave away their homes and businesses, but even gave up their lives as martyrs in gratitude to God!

Well done Well done

good and faithful good and faithful

servant servant

In the Gospel of Saint Matthew (6:19), Jesus instructs us, "Do not store up for ourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy, and where thieves break in and steal….”

Often in life, we pursue and collect those things that do not last. We must ask, “One hun-dred years from now, where will our possessions be?” Our greatest blessing is our family. As

Orthodox Christians, we are called to be stewards of this great gift. If we are faithful to this calling, perhaps our Lord will say to us as he did to the faithful steward, “Well done

good and faithful servant” (Mt 25:23).
