Yapton C. of E. Primary School Family Learning Ideas – week beginning 27.04.20 Key Stage 2 Film of the week: English Remember to think carefully about what you are going to write before you start! Capital letters and full stops ARE important. Try to use some of the spellings and grammar rules that you have learnt this year so far in your writing. Maths Don’t forget to keep learning and practising your times tables on Times Tables Rock Stars. Science We are carrying on with our learning about animals this week. Present your Science learning to your grown ups at home – try and teach them something new! Years 3 and 4 Create a piece of persuasive writing. Write a letter to the genie asking him to grant you three wishes of your choice. You will need to persuade the genie, so remember to give clear reasons for your choices. Use paragraphs! Years 3 and 4 Can you create symmetrical patterns? Look carefully at the pattern below. Can you create your own neat, symmetrical pattern for Aladdin’s magic carpet? Years 3 and 4 What are food chains? Find out what some of the animals in ‘Aladdin’ eat, including the ones listed below and decide ways to group them. Then try to create some food chains, using words such as producer, predator and prey. Years 5 and 6 Write a diary entry for Aladdin on the day he discovers the lamp and genie. How will you present your work? Don’t forget to include some of the key features of a diary. Remember to describe the cave as well as the feelings of the characters. Make sure you use a range of sentence starters Years 5 and 6 Can you create a treasure map using coordinates? Help Aladdin find his way to the treasure by creating a map, with coordinates on each axis. Design (and answer) questions for someone in your family to solve e.g. “What would you find at (3,5)?” Year 6 challenge – can you use all four quadrants…? Years 5 and 6 How do animals adapt to their environments? Discuss with an adult how animals adapt to their environment. Think about the animals in Aladdin and what their natural habitats would be like. Draw some of their habitats and explain how you think the animal is suitably adapted for that environment.
