FROM THE PRINCIPAL
Kindergarten Orientation The second orientation session will take place tomorrow, 2nd November from 9:15 – 10:30am. If you are yet to enrol your child for 2018, please see Mrs Copping or Miss Rose in the front office and complete an enrolment form. Class Planning - 2018 We are currently reviewing student numbers and finalising class formations for 2018. An important part of this process is calculating the number of students in each grade. Thank you to those parents who have informed us that their children are leaving our school this year. If you know of anyone who has moved into our catchment area and is looking to enrol their child into our school for next year, please suggest that they do so ASAP to help with the planning process. If you have any concerns or things that you think need to be considered for your child’s placement for next year, please email me at [email protected] ‘Arcade Mania’ – Tuesday, 31st October Congratulations to all students in 5/6H who worked tirelessly throughout Term 3 and 4 to create their amazing arcade designs, which were on display yesterday in the hall for our ‘Arcade Mania’ fundraiser. Thank you to Miss Hoy for her dedication and commitment to this project. The learning experiences have been authentic and led by the creativity and collaboration of all students – well done!
K-6 Excursion – Tuesday, 28th November An end-of- year excursion has been organised for all students K-6 on Tuesday, 28th November. We will be going to the Reading Cinemas, Auburn to watch ‘Coco’ (PG), followed by a picnic lunch in the Auburn Botanical Gardens. The permission note was sent home last Wednesday. Could you please return the note and pay by Tuesday, 21st November. Where possible, please pay online using the POP option on the school website. Support Unit - 2018 Starting next year, a Support Unit will be established at our school with two additional classes for students with intellectual disabilities. These classes will be located in ‘L’ block, opposite the main administration building. This change is due to the recent population growth in the Parramatta area and the lack of schools with Support Units in Western Sydney. A Support Unit will be a positive addition to our school and further highlight the inclusive values at Yates Avenue PS. Staffing News We are currently in the process of appointing a new Assistant Principal to fill the position vacated by Mrs Tamara Prout, who is now Deputy Principal at Denistone East Public School. I will let you know the outcome of the merit selection process as soon as it is finalised.
Have a great week David MacSporran Principal

FROM THE ASSISTANT PRINCIPALS Peer Support We have had two sessions of Peer Support so far this term. Students will be participating in the module, Moving Forward which focuses on resilience. The experiences in the module help children to identify their qualities and strengths, develop skills, respond with a range of strategies and seek support when faced with challenges. During the first session, students established connections with the other members of their group and developed their group agreement to enable them to work well together. Students also discussed examples of challenging situations and some resilient and non-resilient responses. During our second session, students discussed their personal qualities and strengths. They identified their qualities and acknowledge how they contribute to their achievements. Through activities students recognise they used their strengths to achieve success and can be encouraged to approach future activities optimistically. Arcade Mania On Tuesday 31st October 5/6H hosted an arcade games room in the hall for students from Pre-School to 4/5M. 5/6H have researched, designed and made arcade games out of recyclable materials as part of a Project Based Learning Unit in Term 3.
Well done to 5/6H for the wonderful and creative games that they created.

PRESCHOOL Today we welcomed the first group of 2018 children to our Preschool Orientation. Over the next few weeks, the children and their families will be attending orientation sessions to help support their transition to Preschool next year. While the children play and become familiar with our preschool, families learn more about our Preschool program and all the great things that are happening in our school. We look forward to welcoming all our new children and families to our school community over the next few weeks. It is a very exciting time for our current Pre Schoolers. Today they greeted our visitors with lovely big smiles and enjoyed playing and talking to them about our preschool. Over the last few weeks, they have also been visiting their BIG schools and attending school orientation days in readiness for their transition to school next year. Tomorrow the children will be attending the second orientation session at Yates Avenue Public School and are looking forward to the visit!
