You will need super eagle eyes for today’s puzzle! Can you find the one little fish amongst all the other sea creatures?

Take good care,

This Week’s Picture

Writing LO: To plan a story.

Today’s task is to remind yourself of the thoughts that you had yesterday about your adventure story and to design a story map to help you sequence your story. Don’t forget, you are going to write your story to read to someone in your household for an exciting bedtime story. It needs to be based on the above picture and the information below. A child has just moved house with his/her parents from the busy city to the leafy countryside. The child explores the huge garden of the new home with the family’s pet dog and discovers a tiny building tucked away in a corner. Curiosity gets the better of this child and he/she enters the building.

What happens next?

Think about these questions before you start: • What happens when the child and her dog enter the tiny house?

Page 3: Year 1 2.6.20 · household for an exciting bedtime story. It needs to be based on the above picture and the information below. A child has just moved house with his/her parents from

• Who do they meet? • What do they see? • What problems do they face? • What adventure do they have? • How do they solve the problem? • How do they get back home?

Remember to draw boxes for your pictures and arrows linking the boxes. Don’t forget to number your boxes in order. Below is a super example of a story map for The Three Billy Goats Gruff by Isabella in 1 Canada.

If you have time you could write a few sentences or notes about each picture to help you when you begin your story tomorrow.

Reading and Phonics Now that we’ve revised all of our phase 5 phonics sounds we are going to learn about some of the alternative spellings for different phonemes. There are groups of graphemes that all look different but make the same sound (e.g. ee, ea, e-e, ey). Each day you will have a different worksheet to look at. You need to read the words and sort them into the correct group. Once you have sorted the words you could use the words to practice some handwriting. Keep practising any sounds you are unsure of using the games on phonics play and make sure you keep reading every day! You can choose your own books to read this week using oxford owl.

Maths Finding quarters (1) - 1C Pages 49-51 Please see on the next 4 pages for activities/explanations from the maths textbook. These activities should be completed before the workbook to aid understanding. Last lesson you learnt all about how to find halves. Today you are going to be learning about how to find a quarter of a shape. A quarter is when you split an object into 4 equal parts. It is very important that each part is exactly the same size. This video explains how to split a shape into quarters https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t-U-oQD7XWA

When completing your book work it might be useful to use a coloured pencil. Tuesday and Thursday: Go on the Mathletics website to complete the tasks that have been set. https://www.mathletics.com/uk/ . Don’t forget to also check School Jam for additional activities.
