Please continue reading books either from school, or online using the Oxford Owl website. Use your bookmarks to check what skills you should be working on (they are also in the back of your planner). https://www.oxfordowl.co.uk/for-home/find-a-book/library-page/ Don’t forget to change your reading books at school. For most children these are the slots: Tuesday 8:30-11:30 - Apple Class; Tuesday 12:00-3:00 - Plum Class; Wednesday 8:30-11:30 - Cherry Class You should have received an email with information about how you can have a zoom reading slot with Ms Lendrum. Please email Mrs Linkens if you haven’t received it [email protected]

Poetry Activity 1 Read the Mrs Pirate poem

Discuss the poem, talking about the objects in the poem.

Look at how punctuation within a poem is different to punctuation in a

story or non- fiction text.

Illustrate a copy of the Mrs Pirate poem. Underline the rhyming words,

using a different colour for each rhyming pair.

Activity 2 Read the poem again. Look at the coloured version that shows the different sections, 4 lines per section. Make a list of the rhyming pairs on a whiteboard. Eg) Pie, eye. Parrot, carrot Make a list of new rhyming pairs. Look at the spellings, particularly the word endings. Eg jumper, bumper; tie, pie Begin to write a new version of the poem. When ……..went shopping. Add 4 lines to make a new section. Activity 3 Read your work from yesterday. Add another 4 lines using 2 pairs of rhyming words to make a new section. Read your work through. Activity 4 Read your work from yesterday. Can you spot any spelling mistakes? Edit it if you can. Could you add adjectives in front of the nouns, use a ^ to add them. Looking carefully at the poem, illustrate it to show the things that your character bought.

Extra things that will make your writing even better:

Do you need any question marks or exclamation marks in your writing? Have you used any Year 1 common exception words? If so, are they spelt correctly? Have you chosen the correct phonics ‘special friends’ to spell other words? Is your handwriting neat? Have you formed your letters correctly? Are they the right size in relation to each other? eg Are the tall letters

(b,d,h,k,l,t) taller than

the other letters? Do the tails of

f,g,j,p,q,y hang under

the line? Use adjectives to describe nouns. Big, huge, massive, gigantic Small, tiny, miniscule, minute

Maths

Our school has now subscribed to the White Rose Maths scheme.

This week we are learning about counting to 100, partitioning and comparing numbers.

Please click here for the Week 9 lessons.

The worksheets to support all these lessons are on the website. Look for the WRM (White Rose Maths)

pdf documents (answer sheets are also available). There are also some Mastery Activities for those of you

who would like more challenge.

There are also Friday Challenge activities. Have a go at a few of these. Focus on explaining how you found

an answer and why you think it is correct. Is it possible for some challenges to have more than one

correct answer?

Maths

Try these ‘Two Minute Challenge’ activities to

practise your mental recall of different number

bonds.

Start at Level 1. How many questions can you

answer correctly in two minutes? (You will

need to get your answers marked)

Repeat it another day – can you improve your

score?

If you score more than 30/40, move up a level.

Two new levels have been added for this week so

there are 12 levels available. Please let me know if

you need a higher level!

[email protected]

Art/DT Make your own salt dough. Use this to make a model of a starfish.

Once it is dry, add paint and glitter.

1 cupful of plain flour (about 250g) half a cupful of table salt (about

125g) half a cupful of water (about 125ml) 1. Preheat the oven to its lowest

setting and line a baking sheet with baking parchment.

2. Mix the flour and salt in a large bowl. Add the water and stir until it comes together into a ball.

3. Transfer the dough to a floured work surface and shape into your chosen model. You can roll it out and cut out shapes, numbers or letters using biscuit cutters, or make any kind of model you can think of. We made some fruit and veg shapes plus cupcakes for a teddy bear’s picnic.

4. Put your finished items on the lined baking sheet and bake for 3 hrs or until solid.

5. Leave to cool and then paint.

Cooking Have a go at making these biscuits! Can you make them so they are shaped like creatures from under the sea? Maybe you can decorate them too! https://www.bbcgoodfood.com/recipes/easiest-ever-biscuits
