YEAR 1 MATHSTerm 5 Week 5
Comparing Measurements Assessment
Please try the comparing measurements assessment on Professor Assessor: www.prof123.co.uk/
You have 1 week to complete this from Friday 15th May. This will help us to know how you are getting on with your learning.
This assessment includes comparing and estimating a range of measurements; weight, length and height, capacity and time.
This week – Time
• Each session should take about 30 minutes.
• This week we are focusing on:
• Session 1 – Sequencing events
• Session 2 – Days of the week and months of the year
• Session 3 - Writing the date
• Session 4 – O’clock times
• Session 5 – Half past times
Session 1 – Sequencing Events• This week we are going to continue learning about measuring time.
• Today we will be thinking about putting events into time order.
• First, we need to think about time words. Talk with a grown up about these words. Can you use them in a sentence? E.g. “Later I will go for a walk.” (You do not need to write your sentences down.)
• Now try the ‘Times of the Day’ challenge on the Nrich website:
• Children’s link: https://nrich.maths.org/6609
• Support / instructions for parents: https://nrich.maths.org/6609/note
• Solution: https://nrich.maths.org/6609/solution
• If you cannot print the pictures then you could give each picture a number and then put the numbers in order.

weekend?
In which month were you born?Which months

When we write the long date, we write the name of the day first. We then write
the number of the day. Here they have written the
month last, however at school we also include the year at the end, e.g. 2020.

Remember, when we write ordinal
numbers we include the last letters from
the word to write after the number.
E.g.First = 1st
Second = 2nd
Third = 3rd
Fourth = 4th
Session 3 – Writing the Date
• We have already looked at how the long date is written:
• This is how this date would be written in its shorter form:
Can you change these dates from long to short forms?

Monday 22nd June 2020 =

Session 4 – O’clock Times• Today we are going to recap how to tell the time to the hour on an
analogue clock and we are going to introduce digital clocks.

At o’clock the minute hand is pointing to the 12.
Session 4 – O’clock Times
• This is a digital clock. Can you find any around your house?
• Hint: Look in the kitchen.
Hours
MinutesAt o’clock the minutes are set to zero because the hour has just begun.
AM or PM?AM means before noon (morning).PM means after
noon (afternoon and evening).
Session 4 – O’clock Times
• Here is a link to a teaching clock: https://www.visnos.com/demos/clock
• Can you use this clock to make these o’clock times?
• Can you use the digital clock on this website to work out how these times would be written as digital times?
• Next, we would like you to read the times on the next page.
• Finally, there is an extra challenge to add and take away hours from o’clock times.
7 o’clock 2 o’clock 11 o’clock 4 o’clock
Can you write these as digital times? Use the teaching clock to help you.
Extra challenge:
Read the problems carefully and then use the teaching clock to solve them.
Can you write your answer on a digital clock?
Session 5 – Half Past Times• Today we are going to read and draw half past times on an analogue
and digital clock.
There are 60 minutes in an hour. So, at half past the hour the clock shows that 30 minutes have gone by. This is because 30 is half of 60.
The hour hand is halfway between the hour it is coming from and the one it is going to.
The minute hand has moved halfway around the clock and is pointing to the 6.
Session 5 – Half Past Times• We would like you to use the teaching clock again:
https://www.visnos.com/demos/clock
• Can you make these half past times? Look to see how they would be written on a digital clock.
• Next, try reading the half past times on the next page.
• Then, try the problems on the page after as an extra challenge.
• Lastly, please try the time assessment on Professor Assessor: www.prof123.co.uk/
• You have 1 week to complete this from Friday 22nd May. This will help us know how you are getting on with your learning.
