What will be studied this term

This term, Year 11 will be completing a controlled assessment on: Imaginative writing. Studentshave to produce two pieces of linked writing as directed by the OCR examining body.

The tasks will be chosen by KSSC staff from those offered by OCR. In addition there will beopportunities to improve previously assessed tasks.

    Students will:

Write to communicate clearly, effectively and imaginatively, using and adapting forms andselecting vocabulary appropriate to task and purpose in ways that engage the reader.

Organise information and ideas into structured and sequenced sentences, paragraphs andwhole texts, using a variety of linguistic and structural features to support cohesion and overallcoherence.

Use a range of sentence structures for clarity, purpose and effect, with accurate punctuation and

    spelling.

How will work be assessed Work will be assessed using OCR writing grade criteria. These are official controlled

assessments which make up one unit of the exam and will be written in examination conditions.

What needs to be done at home Differentiated skills based tasks will be given according to the needs of the groups. These

include: planning ideas, planning paragraphs andreading appropriate texts for research. Homework tasks and resources are available via the facultys website, BeENGspired, which can

be found through the school website. What Key Language will be developed

Students will be encouraged to use and understand more ambitious vocabulary. Key words/devices include (and not exclusive to):Similes, metaphors, adverbs, adjectives,

structure, onomatopoeia, pathetic fallacy, alliteration, personification.

range of contexts and varying their vocabulary and expression confidently for a range ofpurposes and audiences. They show assured and fluent use of standard English in a range ofsituations and for a variety of purposes. Students will speak confidently and be able tocommunicate effectively throughout.

Select and apply construction techniques and understanding of loci to draw graphs based on circles andperpendiculars of lines

Solve exactly, by elimination of an unknown, two simultaneous equations in two unknowns, one of which islinear in each unknown, and the other is linear in one unknown and quadratic in the other, or where the secondequation is of the form x + y = r

    Transformation and Functions Apply to the graph of y = f(x) the transformations y = f(x) + a, y = f(ax), y = f(x + a), y = af(x)

What will be studied this term

GCSE Art & Design Create A Portfolio.

During this term you will gain an understanding of some of the requirements of the GCSE course.

Develop your creative ideas through investigations, informed by relative (contextual) studies and other

    sources

Looking at the artwork of others both traditional, modern and contemporary

    Demonstrate analytical and cultural understanding

Explore and refine your ideas through experimenting and selecting appropriate resources, media,

    materials, techniques and processes

Record ideas and observations, illustrate insights relevant to their intentions in visual and/or other

    forms

    How will work be assessed

You will be continually assessed, based on the Assessment Objectives laid out by the exam board.

What needs to be done at home

As a dedicated Art student you should be creating artwork and refining your skills all the times. The more time an artist spends on honing their craft the more successful the work they produce will

    become.

Even when homework is not set students should be working on extending their portfolio further.

Assessed work must be connected to the starting point you (the students) have been given.

What will be studied this term

Business Students will be spending the Summer term researching two businesses, 1 localand 1 national/international, in preparation for their controlled assessment in the Autumn term.

It is crucial that they also carry out Home Learning activities, continuing their research, inorder to ensure they gather enough information to have a good attempt at the courseworktasks.

In Business Finance, students will apply theory on the Profit & Loss Account and the BalanceSheet, and will learn how to fill in and carry out calculations in the key financial documents.

    How will work be assessed

The controlled assessment is divided into 3 sections. Each section is worth 30 marks, ofwhich 6 marks are allocated for research.

The research work carried out in the Summer term will account for 6 marks, and additionalmarks will be awarded for the development of Personal, Learning and Thinking Skills (PLTS).

In Business Finance, there will be an end of unit test before the Summer holiday to testelements from Year 10, and the financial document unit.

What needs to be done at home

All lessons are accessible from Kingsbury Smart, so students can revise what was covered inlessons.

Each unit is supported by a Word Wall, with differentiated explanation of keywordsDescription (D-G), Example (C-B) and importance to business (A-A*).

Most importantly this half term, students should allocate at least 1 hour each week to gatherinformation as part of their controlled assessment research news articles, adverts, brochures, webpages etc.

Evidence can be printed, and kept in a folder, or stored electronically (could use KingsburySmart to create a project folder)

What Key Language will be developed

projection and learn how to present three-dimensional (3D) objects using isometric drawing

    techniques.

    How will work be assessed

The unit is coursework based however there are 4 controlled assessments that must becompleted by all students.

Students can expect to get either a PASS, MERIT OR DISTINCTION once coursework hasbeen completed.

What needs to be done at home
