English In Literacy this term, we will be working on Journalistic writing. The children will be researching and producing their own newspaper report. We will then be working on classic and contemporary poetry leading up to Christmas. We are so excited to be introducing our new flow topic this term. We have been inspired by our previous learning challenge curriculum and our new question is ‘What would Dora the Explorer find exciting about Corby?’ We will be thinking about: - Where would we take Dora on a special trip in our town? - Where would we take Dora on a special holiday in the UK? - How could we recreate the special places in our town through the medium of art? - How could Dora find out about the history of our town? History/Geography/Art/Design The children will be looking into healthy eating and food groups, friendships and emotions. In RE they will be focusing on Judaism. In Science, we will be little ‘Masterchef’. We will be choosing food from menus, learning how different foods affect the body. Learning about hygiene when cooking, as well as classifying materials and choosing the correct ones for particular uses. We will be exploring squashing and reshaping dough. Reading: Continue to read at home. Look at information texts such as newspapers/websites. Encourage your child to read poetry (Michael Rosen is fabulous). Writing: Support your children with their learning log challenges. Encourage chn to write their own stories. Keep a diary. Maths: Practise times tables. Use Mathletics and other numeracy websites such as Topmarks. Look at shapes around the home and discuss properties of them. How you can help your child at home… In Maths, we will be starting the new term looking at shapes. We will be learning the names and properties of a range of 2d and 3d shapes. We will then be moving on to look at fractions of both shape and number. We will also be looking at units of measurement undertaking practical investigations.
