LESSON OVERVIEW

LESSON 1

Practice today! Remember 30-minutes before the service ends please proceed to the castle kids room!

LESSON GOAL: I will know who I am. LESSON OVERVIEW: Children must realize that their old sinful self

is dead once they have accepted Jesus Christ as their personal Lord and Savior. The old self has been replaced with a new one having the nature of Jesus which is holy, blameless and perfect. This new nature wants to do what is right, thus it is important that the children know who they are and let this nature dominate their lives. The new self lives to serve others.

MEMORY VERSE

2 Corinthians 5:17 (New International Version)

17 Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; the old has gone, the new has come!

Do you remember the time when you received Jesus Christ as your personal Lord and Savior?

NOW SIT BACK, RELAX AND LISTEN TO THE STORY ABOUT NICODEMUS

(Nicodemus visits Jesus)

Presented bySermons 4 Kids

Featuring the Art of Henry Martin

There was a man named Nicodemus, a Jewish religious leader who was a Pharisee. After dark one evening, he came to speak with Jesus.

“Rabbi we all know that God has sent you to teach us. Your miraculous signs are evidence that God is with you.”

“I tell you the truth, unless you are born again, you cannot see the Kingdom of God.”

“What do you mean? How can an old man go back into his mother’s womb and be born again?”

“I assure you, no one can enter the Kingdom of God without being born of water and the Spirit. Humans can reproduce only human life, but the Holy Spirit gives birth to spiritual life.”

“How are these things possible?”

As Moses lifted up the bronze snake on a pole in the wilderness, so the Son of Man must be lifted up, so that everyone who believes in him will have eternal life.

“For God loved the world so much that he gave his one and only Son, so that everyone who believes in him will not perish but have eternal life.”

LISTENING TIME!

Who among you have seen a cook book?

I have something to tell you…regarding the cookbook.

STORY

I have quite a few cookbooks at my house.  I have brought just a few of them to show you this morning.  We have cookbooks on how to make just about anything you can imagine.  I like to look through these cookbooks and read the recipes and think about all of the delicious foods that I could prepare.  The recipes in these books tell me step by step exactly what I need to do to prepare these wonderful foods.  Some of them even have a picture of what it will look like.  It makes me hungry just to look at the pictures.

You might think that with all of these cookbooks that I must be a great cook, but I'm not.  You see, I don't cook at all!  I just read the cookbooks and look at the pictures.  I can read all of the cookbooks in the world, but that won't make me a cook.  To be a cook, I not only have to read the recipe, I have to actually do what it says.

The Bible is like a cookbook.  The Bible has God's recipe for becoming a Christian and living a life that is pleasing to Him.  A lot of people read the Bible every day.  Many of them even go to Sunday School and study the Bible.  But it isn't enough just to read the recipe.  Reading the Bible won't make you a Christian any more than reading a cookbook will make you a cook.  We must follow the recipe in our daily life.

How about you?  What's cooking in your life?  Do you just read the recipe, or are you using it to live a life that is pleasing to God?

Lord, help us to not only read and study your Word, but to follow its teaching to live a life that will be pleasing to you.

LESSON 2: YOUR NEW SELF LIVES TO SERVE OTHERS

The life you must live, now that you already have Jesus, is the life of service. Let us look at Jesus on how he lived His life, holy, blameless and perfect. He lived for others and not for Himself only. He shared the love of God to others through miracles. He laid down His life for us. Are we ready to give our life to others? YES WE CAN THROUGH CHRIST!

• 2 Corinthians 5:15 (New International Version)

15 And he died for all, that those who live should no longer live for themselves but for him who died for them and was raised again.

• Philippians 2:3-5 (New International Version)

• 3Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit, but in humility consider others better than yourselves. 4Each of you should look not only to your own interests, but also to the interests of others.

•  5Your attitude should be the same as that of Christ Jesus:
