LIFE ELECTIVE: THE THINKER

“The Thinker”

More than any other Rodin sculpture, The Thinker moved into the popular imagination as an immediately recognizable symbol of intellectual activity; consequently, it has been subject to endless satirical use.

Page 8: YEAR 2011: GRACE UPON GRACE JANUARY 2011 WHAT REALLY HAPPENED ON THE CROSS

Who made the thinker?

Auguste Rodin (12 November 1840 – 17

November 1917) He was a French sculptor. He was schooled traditionally, took a craftsman-like approach to his work, and desired academic recognition, although he was never accepted into Paris's foremost school of art. During his lifetime, Rodin was compared to Michelangelo, and was widely recognized as the greatest artist of the era.

…PLANNING

“HAVE YOU THOUGHT OF WHAT 2011 WOULD BE LIKE FOR YOU AND YOUR FAMILY?”

The plans of the diligent lead surely to abundance, but everyone who is hasty comes only to poverty. —Proverbs 21:5

Page 10: YEAR 2011: GRACE UPON GRACE JANUARY 2011 WHAT REALLY HAPPENED ON THE CROSS

PLANNING VERSUS WORRYING

Now… children, understand that PLANNING is not synonymous to WORRYING…

Let us remember what the Lord that planning is essential:

“The heart of man plans his way,but the Lord establishes his steps.”

—Proverbs 16:9

Page 11: YEAR 2011: GRACE UPON GRACE JANUARY 2011 WHAT REALLY HAPPENED ON THE CROSS

LETS CREATE A VISION BOARD

Hmmmm... What is a vision board?

Page 12: YEAR 2011: GRACE UPON GRACE JANUARY 2011 WHAT REALLY HAPPENED ON THE CROSS

VISION BOARD

• “A vision board (also called a Treasure Map or a Visual Explorer or Creativity Collage) is typically a poster board on which you paste or collage images that you’ve torn out from various magazines or you can draw it. It’s simple.

• The idea behind this is that when you surround yourself with images of who you want to become, what you want to have, where you want to live, or where you want to vacation, your life changes to match those images and those desires.”

OBJECT LESSON: PENCIL

The Pencil:It can be used to draw, write

or doodle. But the good thing about it is you can erase whatever you have written.

Let us make our plans in pencil and offer it to God, so that he can still erase plans which are not good for us. His plans for us are better and greater than ours.

LESSON GOAL AND OVERVIEW

Lesson Goal: Children will understand what really happened on the cross

Lesson Overview: As a sinner and transgressor, we were crucified with Christ. When Jesus was buried, we were buried. When Jesus was made alive, we were made alive. When he was raised from the dead, we were raised with Him. It was all for us! Now, we will reign in life with Him, through grace.

GAME: PICK-UP STICKS

Have you ever played pick-up sticks?

Its easy!!!

Page 47: YEAR 2011: GRACE UPON GRACE JANUARY 2011 WHAT REALLY HAPPENED ON THE CROSS

DIRECTIONS:

First, stand the sticks upright holding them all vertically with your hand in a group. Let go gently and allow them to drop where they may. Each player's goal is to pick up as many sticks as they can without making the other sticks move. The winner will be the one who can total 100 points. The first player to go (roll dice or use some other method for choosing the first player) picks up one stick at a time until another stick is moved when he attempts to pick one up. Then it goes to the next player and so on until someone reaches 100 points.

SYNTHESIS

In every game, we create a game plan. In order for us to achieve our purpose of winning.

Did you know that God wants us to win always, and He already had a plan for us!

Page 50: YEAR 2011: GRACE UPON GRACE JANUARY 2011 WHAT REALLY HAPPENED ON THE CROSS

LESSON 1: THE PLAN

• Ephesians 1:4-5 (New Living Translation)

4 Even before he made the world, God loved us and chose us in Christ to be holy and without fault in his eyes. 5 God decided in advance to adopt us into his own family by bringing us to himself through Jesus Christ. This is what he wanted to do, and it gave him great pleasure.

BUT HOW CAN THIS BE? WE ARE SINNERS…

Page 51: YEAR 2011: GRACE UPON GRACE JANUARY 2011 WHAT REALLY HAPPENED ON THE CROSS

With you and me in mind, God drew the plan…

Page 52: YEAR 2011: GRACE UPON GRACE JANUARY 2011 WHAT REALLY HAPPENED ON THE CROSS

LESSON 1: THE PLANGod's PERFECT Plan:  1) Prepare a Perfect Sacrifice2) Require Him to live a perfect

men to teach others5) Have Him stand silent when accused6) Have Him

7) Execute Him on a wooden Cross8) Resurrect Him from the grave after 3 Days and 3 Nights9) Exalt Him as King of Kings.

Page 53: YEAR 2011: GRACE UPON GRACE JANUARY 2011 WHAT REALLY HAPPENED ON THE CROSS

LESSON 1: THE PLAN

If you were Jesus, would you do the aforementioned plan for humankind?

ONLY A SON WITH SO MUCH LOVE AND THE HEART OF THE FATHER CAN ACCOMPLISH THE PLAN…THAT’S JESUS!!!

Page 54: YEAR 2011: GRACE UPON GRACE JANUARY 2011 WHAT REALLY HAPPENED ON THE CROSS

WHEN WE SEE THIS… IT MEANS JESUS HAS DONE THE PLAN!

OBJECT LESSON: RING

The RINGThe Bible also indicates that God’s people are to hold positions of great distinction in His kingdom (Rev. 5:10). They will actually sit on thrones and govern the entire world (Rev. 20:4). This wonderful truth is also captured in the story of “The Prodigal Son." When his repentant son returns, his father gives him a ring. A ring is a symbol of power and authority (Est. 8:10).

GAME: THE EAGLE AND THE CHICKS

• This game needs at least five kids to start, and the more kids participating, the more fun it would be. Choose a kid as the eagle and another kid as the mother hen. The rest of the kids will be the chicks. In the game, the eagle tries to catch one of the chicks so he will be no longer the eagle, and the mother hen tries to protect the chicks from the eagle.

Page 61: YEAR 2011: GRACE UPON GRACE JANUARY 2011 WHAT REALLY HAPPENED ON THE CROSS

• The chicks will line behind the mother hen one by one. The first chick behind the mother hen will hold on to her waist or cloth, the one behind the first chick will hold on the first, and so on. The eagle can catch the chick by tagging the chick, and the mother hen can protect the chicks by spreading her arms shoulder high. When the chasing begins, the eagle is free to run anywhere to catch the chick. The mother hen will try to be in front of the eagle to protect the chicks.

Page 62: YEAR 2011: GRACE UPON GRACE JANUARY 2011 WHAT REALLY HAPPENED ON THE CROSS

• The eagle has to go around the mother hen to catch the chick and he will try to avoid any contact with the mother hen. To help the mother hen, the chicks will try to run out of the way of the eagle. The chicks don't have to be in the line all the time. They may run out of the line and play tag with the eagle.

Page 63: YEAR 2011: GRACE UPON GRACE JANUARY 2011 WHAT REALLY HAPPENED ON THE CROSS

Are you ready?

Page 64: YEAR 2011: GRACE UPON GRACE JANUARY 2011 WHAT REALLY HAPPENED ON THE CROSS

SYNTHESIS

Unlike the eagle and the chicks, we are not playing tag anymore. Because God has finished it all through Jesus.

Once we have received Jesus as our personal Lord and Savior, we are seated with Him in the heavenly places.

Let us respond with love!

Page 65: YEAR 2011: GRACE UPON GRACE JANUARY 2011 WHAT REALLY HAPPENED ON THE CROSS

LESSON 2: OUR RESPONSE

Matthew 22:37-39

“ Jesus replied: ‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.’ This is the first and greatest commandment.’ And the second is like it: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’ ”

Page 66: YEAR 2011: GRACE UPON GRACE JANUARY 2011 WHAT REALLY HAPPENED ON THE CROSS

LESSON 2: OUR RESPONSE

God does not need the world, he owns it… HE NEEDS YOU…because He LOVES you! He created the world for you!

All He asks is for you to love Him with all your HEART, SOUL AND MIND. He wants you to enjoy life with Him.

FINDING NEMO LESSONS• 1. A LESSON ON PATIENCE - Nemo wants to go to school like everyone

else. He learns that he has to be patient and wait for the right time.• 2. A LESSON ON OBEDIENCE - Nemo put himself in great danger when

he disobeyed his father and did what he wanted. He ended up in a fish tank at a dentist's office. All of this would have been avoided if he would have obeyed at the beginning. The Bible teaches boys and girls to honor and obey their parents (Ephesians 6:1).

• 3. A LESSON ON FRIENDSHIP - Marlin grew frustrated with Dory and ends up leaving her all by herself in his search for Nemo. We should remember that friends need to stick together through the thick and thin, at good times and bad.

• 4. A LESSON ON PARENTING - Marlin, Nemo's dad, loved and his son but was a little overprotective. Moms and dads should love and protect their kids, but should leave them room to make some of their own decisions too.

• 5. A LESSON ON LOVE - I have saved the best for last. Marlin loved his son so much that he was willing to RISK his life for him. We have a heavenly Father who loves us so much that he didn't RISK his life, but GAVE it freely for us (See John 3:16).
