Home Learning Guide In this booklet you will find: • Example of a daily schedule – it’s just a guide if you want to use it.

• Monday – Friday Literacy & Numeracy activity explanations.

• Worksheets for students to attempt.

Prayer Read the prayer focus worksheet.

Your whole life is a long time. Can you remember promising to do something five

years ago, or even last year, that you still do?

Ask a parent or other adult what they praise God about.

What things do you praise God for now?

What do you think you will praise God for when you are an adult?

Literacy

Writing

Watch ‘Behind the News’ at 10am on ABC Me or find an episode to watch on

Choose your favourite story. Write a summary of the story in your scrap book with

the title Behind the News

Reading

Read the story Robot Troubles and answer the comprehension questions in your

scrap book with the title Robot Troubles. (Remember to number your answers

when you write them in your book).

Maths Warm Up: Select an Olympic Maths Warm Up Question to complete in your scrap

book.

Problem Solving Tasks for year 3 and year 4 students to try. Complete the

problems in your scrap book. There might be more than one answer, so you need

to record as many different answers as possible and label drawings to help explain

your thinking.

Year 3:

Roll a Number: Complete the Roll a Number worksheet. You will need a dice for

this activity, you may be able to find one in a board game, if you cannot find a

dice, you can write some numbers on paper and pull them out of a hat. Remember

to put the numbers back in the hat once you have recorded them.

If you cannot print, you can draw the table in your scrap book.

Year 4:

Addition and Subtraction: Try to complete each round as fast as you can.

Prayer Read the prayer focus worksheet.

Reflect on ‘your music’. Is there a particular style of music you like? Do you have a

favourite song? Using a page in your scrap book, try to change the words in the

chorus so that whenever you sing your favourite song, you can ‘sing to the Lord’.

Literacy Writing

Morning Surprise – Look at the picture below labelled Morning Surprise and

choose at least 2 activities to complete in your scrap book with the title Morning

Surprise

• Role play the telephone call you might have with a friend or family member

to tell them what you have found

• You can only ask 8 questions to the octopus. What would you ask and

why?

• Try to persuade the octopus to leave. Then try to persuade it to stay. Which

was easiest? Why?

• Write the story of how the octopus came to be here, and what happens

next.

Reading

Read the story Dinosaur Dig and answer the comprehension questions in your

scrap book with the title Dinosaur Dig. (Remember to number your answers when

you write them in your book).

Sharing:

Complete the sharing worksheet. You may need counters to help create your own

problem, if you don’t have any you can use a collection of items from your house

or you can use some small pieces of paper.

Year 4:

Place Value Search and Odd and Even tasks. Solve problems in your scrapbook.

STEM The Olympics are starting tonight, pretend you are an athlete and you have won a

medal. Design your own medal and write paragraph about how you won your

medal and what sport you have won it for (you can be creative and think of your

own sport. If you cannot print, you can draw a medal in your scrap book.

Monday

Prayer Read the prayer focus worksheet.

Re-read the words to your new chorus. Can you think of another name for your

song? Write it as your title. Illustrate your new chorus. Sing it as you draw!

Literacy Writing

Select an Art Hub for Kids image to draw from

youtube.com/channel/UC5XMF3Inoi8R9nSI8ChOsdQ or follow the instruction and

draw a minion in your scrap book.

Once you have completed your drawing, you can write a story about your picture

or write instructions about how to draw the picture.

Reading

Complete the Olympic and Paralympics Find a Word.

Once you have completed the Find a Word, select 5 words and write them in

sentences on the back of the sheet or in your scrap book with the title Sentences.

problems in your scrap book. There might be more than one answer, so you need

Year 3:

Place Value Challenge: Use the clue to help you work out the numbers. Once you

have completed the sheet, create 5 of your own Place Value Challenges on the

back of the sheet and see if someone in your house can solve them.

Year 4:

Try to complete the times table chart. Use your scrapbook to create groups and

arrays if it helps you to work out the answers.

Tuesday

Prayer Close your eyes and take a moment to think about the people and the things

around you that help you remember the goodness of God.

Nature (sunrise, beautiful trees, gardens, beaches or forests), animals (in the wild

or at home, your own pet), people (family members, friends, good people you

know or read about).

Choose two or three of these images and quietly say a prayer of thanks and praise

to God for the wonderful gifts given to you.

Sing your favourite song (including your new chorus).

Literacy Writing

Complete the worksheet titled What do athletes need to succeed? You may like

to scan the QR code and watch the video for some ideas (If you are unable to print

you can draw the mind map in your scrap book).

Reading

Complete the Olympics Sports worksheet – you may need to ask your family to

help. If you are unable to print the worksheet you can write your answers in your

scrap book titled Olympic Sports.

Multiplication and Division:

Select 6 of the problems to complete. You many need to use counters to help you

solve the problem. If you do not have any you can use bottle tops or make your

counters out of pieces of paper. Use your scrap books to record your working out

with the title Multiplication and Division Problems.

Year 4:

Try to complete the sums. Show your working out. Use your scrapbook if it helps

you to work out the answers.

Other Learning Areas

Music Remember how many beats a Crotchet (ta), Quavers (TeTe), Minim (Ta-a), Dotted

Minim (Ta-a-a), Semiquavers (TikaTika) and Semibreve (Ta-a-a-a) are worth?

Find the Colouring sheet and practise remembering! If you can’t remember the

rests here are a few tips. A minim rest looks like a man’s hat and a crotchet rest

looks like a squiggle. I’ll look forward to seeing the results next time we meet.

Don’t forget if you feel sad or bored sing a song!!! Ms Beach
