Connected Curriculum Menu Week 5

Focus: Art- Sculpture

To understand what sculpture is and can be.

To know the work of some famous sculptors.

To have a go at creating own sculptures from everyday materials.

Task: Everyone to complete Activity 1: Find Out More and then select one of the four

challenge activities to complete during this week to demonstrate your new

understanding.

Essential Activity 1: Find Out More

This week in Connected Curriculum we

are learning all about sculpture. A

sculpture is three-dimensional art, it can

be made from all sorts of different

materials. Many consider man made

sculptures to be a wonder of the world.

Maybe you have heard of:

The Statue of Liberty

Mount Rushmore

The Terracotta Army

The Angel of the North

All of which are larger than life sculptures

created by famous artists.

This week’s essential task is to look at the

work of some famous sculptors and think

about whose art you like best and why.

Visit the Tate Modern website to find out

more about their Top 5 Sculptors.

https://www.tate.org.uk/kids/explore/to

p-5/top-5-sculptures

Watch this video clip to learn about 2

different sculpting techniques.

https://www.bbc.co.uk/teach/class-clips-

video/art-and-design-making-sculptures-

dry-materials-clay/zd28qp3

Once you have explored the artists are

started to find out more about sculptors

and sculpting materials, have a go at this

online quiz to test your new knowledge.

https://www.educationquizzes.com/ks2/

art-and-design/sculpture/

Challenge 1: Learn about the

sculptor Giacometti and make your

own Tin Foil sculpture.

Visit the following website to find out

more information about famous sculptor

Giacometti.

sculpture-art-project-for-kids

Challenge 2: Learn about Andrew

Goldsworthy and create a natural

sculpture using natural materials.

Read the information about Andrew

Goldsworthy contained in this pack and

gather some natural materials to create

your own natural sculpture in your back

garden.

andy-goldsworthy-the-art-of-nature

Don’t forget to share your learning with us via email so that we can give you a

special shout out:

Email Miss Cunnington on: [email protected]

Email Miss Foster on: [email protected]

Challenge 3: Try your hand at

sculpting with clay or cardboard.

Watch this video clip about techniques

for sculpting in clay.

https://www.bbc.co.uk/teach/class-clips-

video/art-and-design-making-sculptures-

dry-materials-clay/zd28qp3

Decide what you want to sculpt and have

a go. Clay is a great material because you

can always smooth it out if you go wrong.

If you have no clay at home why not try

using play-doh or make your own salt

dough recipe here.

Challenge 4: Research a favourite

sculpture of the world and create a

model or information poster about

it.

There are many famous sculptures across

the world, each one different and with its

own story to tell. Why not research

about:

The Statue of Liberty

Mount Rushmore

The Terracotta Army

The Angel of the North

You could make your own replica of the

sculpture using paper mache, lego or your

recycling. Or you could create a poster

or PowerPoint presentation explaining

what the sculpture is made from, who

made it and what it means.
