Year 5 Day 3
Pretend that you are a person from the future. You are living on Earth in a year that is
over 500 years from now. You will be writing a diary entry which describes a typical day in
your life. Include your thoughts, feelings and actions. First, you are going to plan your diary
entry.
Paragraph 1 How did you get up in the morning? What is your bedroom like? What were you either excited or nervous about that happened today? How did you feel?
Paragraph 2 Where did you go today? How did you get there? What did you see on the way? How did you feel?

What did you do when you got there? Who were you with? What did the place smell and look like? How did you feel?
Paragraph 4 How did you feel after the event? What did you decide to do after?
Paragraph 5 What are you doing tomorrow? How are you feeling about it?

Year 5 Writing- Day 6
When creating an atmospheric piece of writing we use some features to help. Match up the
definition to the example!
Personification – giving human
characteristics to something which
is not human.
Metaphor – Saying an object or
person is something else, without
the use of the word ‘like’ or ‘as’.
Onomatopoeia- is when a word
describes a sound
Repetition – repeating something
which is important, particularly
used in 3’s (the power of 3).
Senses – use your senses to add
more to the description. Senses are
the five physical abilities to see,
hear, smell, taste, and feel.
Simile – comparing two things
using ‘like’ or ‘as’
Alliteration- the use of
consonants, at the beginning of
several words that are close
together.
The winter breeze was
as cold as ice.
The air smelt of wood smoke
and my ears were filled with
the sound of squawking birds
circling above.
Round the rugged rocks
the ragged rascal ran.
The sea was a hungry
dog.
Here come the penguins.
Splish, splash, splosh!
The wind sang.
Boy did it rain. It
rained and rained and
rained.

Opening What are you like? Where are you right now? What are you doing?
Build Up How did you get transported? Where are you transported to? How do you feel?
Problem Who do you meet in the world (Remember to describe them)? How do they stop you from leaving the world?
Resolution How do you trick them into leaving? Describe the journey back to Earth
Ending How do you feel back at Earth? What do you do now you are back?
