LO: To know the features of a Biography.

This week we are going to be writing a biography of a

famous person. (You will be able to choose someone later

on).

Have a look through the features of a Biography:

A closing giving an overview of their life.

Read through the WAGOLL biography all about Charles

Darwin on the next page. Use

highlighters or different colours to

show the features that you can see.

Then on the magpie page – write

down some words, phrases,

openers or rhetorical questions that

you think work really well.

LO: To plan a Biography.

The first thing you will need to do is decide who you are

going to write your Biography about. You could use one of

the suggestions below or choose someone different. Make

sure that there is enough information available so that you

can include plenty of detail.

Use the next page to record some bullet point facts about

the famous person you have chosen. The more facts you

get at this stage, the easier it will be to write your

biography.

Then use the planning template to sort your facts and plan

out each of your paragraphs. Remember to include some

Year 5/6 words and a range of openers.

LO: To edit a biography.

Work through the ‘Editing Stations’ using the prompts below.

Make sure you spend plenty of time on each ‘station’. Don’t

worry if you don’t have highlighters!

Spelling Station

- Use a dictionary/ipad/laptop to check any spellings that you are unsure of.

- Ask a family member to skim through your work and wiggle any spellings that need checking.

- Finally highlight your Year5/6 words in yellow.

Openers Station

- Read through your writing and highlight your sentence openers in green.

- Use your DADWAVERS planning sheet to ensure your have used a range of openers

(not just ‘I’ all of the time!)

Vocabulary Station

- Look through your writing. Highlight in orange any words that you think can be improved.

- Use a thesaurus to up level at least 3 words from your

writing.

Speech Station

- Look carefully at any speech punctuation. Have you followed the rules?

-Highlight your punctuation in pink. Then complete the checklist:
