Your child will still be taught with the highest expectations and cover all required elements ofthe curriculum, similar to previous years.
The current curriculum is more rigorous and sets high expectations which all schools have had to work hard tomeet since the beginning of 2015.

Scaled Scores
• 100 will always represent the ‘national standard’.
• Each pupil’s raw test score will therefore be convertedinto a score on the scale, either at, above or below 100.
• A child who achieves the ‘national standard’ (a score of100) will be judged to have demonstrated sufficient knowledge in the areas assessed by the tests.
• Each pupil will receive:oA scaled score in each tested subject.oConfirmation of whether or not they attained the
national standard
I n s p i r e C h a l l e n g e S u c c e e d
How will the 'expected standard' be decided?
A standard-setting exercise will be conducted in order todetermine the scaled score needed for a child to be considered to have met the standard.
This standard-setting exercise will assess the difficulty ofthe test in question, and then determine how raw marks will be converted into scaled scores in such a way that a score of 100 represents the expectedstandard.
I n s p i r e C h a l l e n g e S u c c e e d
On publication of the test results in July:A child awarded a scaled score of 100or more is judged to have met the‘national standard’ in the test.
A child awarded a scaled score of less than 100 is judged to have not yet met the national standard and performed below expectation for their age.
I n s p i r e C h a l l e n g e S u c c e e d
There are not any separate tests for higherattaining children
Instead, each test will have scope for higher attaining pupils to show their strengths.
Higher attaining children are expected to receive a scaled score of over 110 in their papers howeverthey will be compared to children with similar starting points

Questions for all papers gradually increase in difficulty.

There is much more emphasis on understanding meaning of vocabulary in context
It is imperative that we make sure we are checking children’sunderstanding of words/phrases in context and helping them see the relationship bet weenwords
Q8 asks pupils what the word ‘universal’ tells you about thephrase universal rule.
Their knowledge of the word ‘universe’ should lead them to thecorrect answer that it is a rule known everywhere/around theworld.

Reading Stamina
This is very important as in the past we have seenchildren struggle to finish a reading test and this isnot due to the difficulty of the questions but justthat some children can’t read in silence for sustainedperiods.
Build in additional reading opportunities and teachreading quickly andskimming and scanning
