Alpha and Omega – the beginning and the end of the Greek alphabet, seems relevant for this Year 6 article as we begin a new semester, one which will also herald the end of primary school life for our Year 6 students after seven years, and ultimately the beginning of their secondary school journey in 2021.

This second semester offers so much for our Year 6 cohort that I’m sure it will fly by, and its importance for each one of our students regarding their positive positioning for Junior Secondary cannot be understated. But we’ll all be ready to accept the challenges and take the opportunities as they arise!!

Now before we conclude this article, a brief word about the end of last semester when we completed our Design Technology KLA with the testing of our ‘gold separating devices’. Congratulations to the only team which managed to perfectly separate their 3 pieces of rock, 6 pieces of gold, and 8 pieces of gravel into their three individual compartments!

This semester our Year 6 Technology focus will be on Digital Technologies.

Dear Parents, Staff, Parishioners & Students,

Welcome back to Term Three. I hope that everyone received some down time during the last two weeks or at least was able to spend time as a family. Apart from needing to come to school around planned maintenance, I was lucky to be able to spend much time with my family. It was nice to be able to spend time with my wife, girls and grandson. Added to the list also were some household jobs that have been on hold for a while now.

The Catholic saint, Francis de Sales once said, “Never be in a hurry: do everything quietly and in a calm spirit. Do not lose your inner peace for anything whatsoever, even if your whole world seems upset.” Amidst the chaos and uncertainty of the past few months, inner peace is a concept that can be a real struggle. Dealing with and operating in the Covid-19 world has been an ongoing challenge and one that I don’t think we have seen the last of yet.

American motivational speaker Wayne W. Dyer used to say that “Peace is retraining your mind to process and deal with life as it is, rather than as you think it should be.” This thinking has continued to reinforce my belief that we “Choose our attitude”. Regardless of the situation the one thing we can have control over is our response.

As we move forward, I think that uncertainty will be the order of the day for a while yet. The current situation in Victoria is a worry for the entire country as it shows how quickly things can deteriorate if we become complacent and don’t apply the appropriate measure and restrictions. The important thing in the coming months will be how we continue to respond to our present situation.

It is planned to hold another briefing for principals this week to advise of the next round of easing of restrictions. We will communicate these to families later in the week.

Until then we continue to maintain the exact measures which were applied before the holidays. Thank you so much for the better use of the bays this morning, this made drop off much quicker and more efficient.

Have a great week and hug your kids.

School Photos | Our School Photo Day will now be held on Friday 31st July. Due to COVID-19 restrictions there will be some changes to the process this year. There will be no sibling photos and the class photos will be made up of individual headshots rather than a group shot. Please keep an eye out for the ordering envelopes which will be sent home this week.

NEWSLETTER REPORT BY JASMINE | This term is going to be an exciting term, especially since last term was so tough. We are very lucky to have such amazing teachers and parents who have guided us through the COVID19 to achieve our learning goals.

This semester is our final one as a year six students. I hope everyone is able to finish the year strong and achieve some new goals. Continue to work hard and give everything your best.

STUDENT LEADERSHIP | Leadership is a quality that all students at St Anne’s Catholic Primary School are encouraged and supported to develop. These experiences ensure that students perceive themselves as leaders and have the opportunity and confidence to take on leadership roles and find their voice.

The ScripturesA Reading from the Holy Gospel according to Matthew 13:3-9Then Jesus taught them many things by using stories. He said:"A farmer went out to scatter seed in a field. While the farmer was scattering the seed, some of it fell along the road and was eaten by birds. Other seeds fell on thin, rocky ground and quickly started growing because the soil was not very deep. But when the sun came up, the plants were scorched and dried up, because they did not have enough roots. Some other seeds fell where thorn bushes grew up and choked the plants. But a few seeds did fall on good ground where the plants produced a hundred or sixty or thirty times as much as was scattered. If you have ears, pay attention!"The Gospel of the Lord. Praise to you, Lord Jesus Christ.

Something to Think AboutDo you know the difference between hearing and listening? Sometimes we might hear somebody talking to us, but we are not really listening. Maybe we are distracted, or maybe our hearts are not open to hearing or responding to what the other person is saying. It is just like this when we hear the message of Jesus too. Is your heart open to hearing the word of God today?

The StorySunday’s Gospel is a parable about the Kingdom. The 'Kingdom' is a key theme throughout Matthew's gospel. Jesus told stories using images and objects that were familiar to the people- in this case it was the planting of seeds. The seeds represent Jesus' message and the soil represents how different people respond to or listen to Jesus' message.

Family DiscussionTalk together about the ways your family practises your faith (daily prayer, going to Sunday Mass, caring for others, etc.). Remind one another that you do these things as a family so that God’s Word can take root in your lives and God’s love will show in your actions, thoughts, and words.

Family ActivityYou will need four small pots or containers, (one filled with gravel, one with rocks, onewith weeds or thistles, and one with potting mix), and quick sprouting seeds.Plant seeds in each of the pots, water the seeds, and make sure they get sunshine. What happens to the seeds in each pot?Which is the best ‘ground’ for the seed to grow in?God wants us to be the ‘good soil’ that God’s word grows in so it can be shared withothers.

Use your train brain

It’s time to use your train brain and look out for cane trains.

Crushing starts at Plane Creek Mill this week.

Cane trains will be on the move 24 hours a day, seven days a week throughout the 2020 crushing season.

That means people of all ages need to use their train brains and:

· Be alert

· Obey signs and signals at cane railway crossings

· Keep off cane bins and cane railway tracks, especially bridges

· Always give way to cane trains

Although cane trains don’t travel very fast they haul very heavy loads – up to 1,200 tonnes of rolling weight.

That’s about the same as eight houses.

It means they take a long time to stop after brakes are applied and, unlike cars or bikes, they can’t swerve if

someone or something is in the way.

So use your train brain. Give way to cane trains and stay safe this crushing season.
