TEACHING & LEARNING
QCAA issues the QCE
TEACHING & LEARNING
The Queensland Certificate of Education (QCE) is the qualification distributed by the QLD Curriculum & Assessment Authority (QCAA) for all students who successfully complete Senior school.
UNIT 1 (Year 11)
satisfactory
UNIT 2(Year 11)
satisfactory
UNIT 3(Year 11/12)
UNIT 4(Year 12)
QLD Certificate of Education (QCE)
From Unit 1 through to Unit 4 students must pass with a ‘Satisfactory’ result in each (generally speaking a ‘C’ result).
TEACHING & LEARNING
In 2019 100% of the cohort achieved a QCE. Our College goal is to continue this outcome.
QTAC and ATAR
The Qld Tertiary Admissions Centre will apply student summative academic results (Year 12) and subject comparisons to score an Australian Tertiary Admission Rank (ATAR) for each student.
TEACHING & LEARNING
QTAC and ATAR
• Students get a number between 30.00 and 99.95. An ATAR of 80.00 indicates that the student is in the top 20% of the State.
• In Year 11 Units 1 & 2 will generally mirror that of Units 3 & 4 in assessment. This will result in most subjects running 3 assessment tasks with some subjects adding an exam at the conclusion of Unit 2 to replicate the External Exam.

Current trends & promoting well-being
• Mental health issues• Relationships• Social media• Sleep• Risk-taking behavior
GUIDANCE COUNSELLORS
Maintaining a relationship• The most important thing to do as a parent is to maintain
a relationship.• Main task is to work out what requires a response.• A level of security about who’s in charge, rules, steps up
and is reliable.• In the face of teenager’s testing behavior we can react
emotionally (rather than with good judgement).
GUIDANCE COUNSELLORS
Communication with teens
• Identify what behaviour is annoying (ignore), wanted (encourage), unacceptable (tough conversation). Negotiate…

Message to take home• Families high in support and low in conflict help teens
thrive.• Fluctuating mood is a part of teens growing up and
helps them learn how to deal with life’s difficulties.• Making mistakes, builds resilience.• Parents need to stay calm, listen, and hang on for the
ride.
