• Revision superstars is a collection of key words or phrases linked to topics your child has studied in their lessons.

• It is an excellent starting point for revision and can help revision seem less intimidating.

• Lots of research has shown that key words are easier to remember than large amounts of text.

• If students’ work out answers themselves, they are more likely to remember it.

Try to use ‘Rote Learning’ with your child –

ask them to memorise information and recall

it back to you. The more you get them to

repeat it the quicker and easier they will

recall and apply it.

Have family quizzes, the way one person asks

something could be different to someone else

but will get students used to different types of

questions and learn to pick out key words of a

particular question.

Give them a key word then ask them to

elaborate on this – can they define it? Can

they link it to anything else? Can they give

some examples?Try to use questioning regularly and get them

to answer about their learning that day, what

can they remember? What can they explain? –

In the car, over dinner, even on their way to

and from school.

Use flashcards to help reinforce retrieval and

don’t dwell on what they get wrong, just

remember to keep revisiting it little and often

and they will soon get the hang of it.

Use their revision resources or class work to

help check their learning over short spaces of

time, then keep going back to older work and

ask them to describe or explain key words

again – can they still remember?
