B6. Use the information in the following passage of text to answer the questions below.

Rabbits live in burrows in open woodland or grassland. The burrows are usually in light, sandy soil and consist of connecting tunnels with several entrances. Rabbits usually onlycome out of their burrows at night or in the early morning or late evening to feed on grass, seeds, leaves and young bark. A disturbed rabbit will flash the white underside of its tail asit bounds away from danger. This acts as a warning signal to other rabbits.

Rabbits eat their own pellets of solid waste material (faeces) which they produce at night. It seems that the pellets are a good source of B vitamins which are produced by microbesin the gut.

In good years rabbits produce 3-6 litters of young from March to September. Each littercontains 3-7 young. The young develop inside the mother for about 4 weeks and are bornblind. They are suckled for about 4 weeks and during this time also feed on their mother'swaste pellets. The young become sexually mature at around 6-8 months old. They canlive up to ten years old, but because of predation by foxes, birds of prey and humans, anddisease such as myxomatosis, their lifespan is usually about a year.

a] Give two ways in which rabbits are able to avoid beingeaten by predators.
