Generally True about Boys…• Boys do not hear, listen or see as well as girls• Boys can use their whole brains if encouraged• Many boys get bored quickly and lose their focus• Tough talking to boys often works

• Show interest in your child’s Chinese learning experiences and encourage him to share them with you
• Encourage your child to learn through meaningful language games
• Cultivate a reading habit
• Watch quality Chinese language television programmes together
• Make use of objects in your environment such as road signs and advertisements to engage your child in Chinese conversations

• Prepare well at home before your child goes to school (e.g. talk about things to do the night before, agree on a bedtime)
1. Get ready for school

• help your child practise new routines that they will use in school (e.g. travelling to school, what to do when your child comes home)
• Create an after-school routine for your child. Limit hours spent on electronic gadgets or TV to not more than 2h every day.
• Allow free play time at the play ground. Spend time observing how he plays and interacts with other children.
• Sleep by 9.30pm. Bedtime stories or small chats.• Have breakfast every morning before coming to school.

• encourage your child to help out with household chores (e.g. create a poster to remind family members to keep the home clean, teach them to do simple household tasks)
