ScopeThe External Affairs Office provides leadership to initiatives that support the college in meeting community needs, expands awareness of the college, and secures external funding from the private and public sector to enhance program development and expand student opportunities.

This report highlights the accomplishments of this division and the partnerships established to support the college.

NCTC FoundationOver the past two years, the NCTC Foundation has been working with the community to implement the Empower the Future campaign. Building upon the rich history of NCTC throughout its service area, through this campaign the college envisioned providing facilities, programs and scholarships to meet the needs of this region.

Through building relationships, demonstrating our excellence in education, and empowering our academic mission, together we continue to build the legacy of North Central Texas College.

We are proud of the success we have had in implementing this campaign, thanks to the support of our many friends, corporate supporters and community leaders we have raised over $5 million to support this campaign.

Campaign Objectives:Downtown Denton NCTC CampusThis Fall 2019, NCTC in partnership with the First State Bank will be opening its new downtown Denton Campus – the First State Bank Exchange. Thanks to FSB’s gift of $1 million, the new center will be equipped with the latest in advanced technology. Their gift is the largest single gift the college and foundation has received.

ScholarshipsA scholarship often is the difference between pursuing an educational dream and entering the workforce in an underpaying job. Through the Empower the Future campaign, many more students will be able to take advantage of attending NCTC with the assistance of a scholarship.

To date, over $4 million has been raised through the Empower the Future campaign to provide scholarships to assist students in obtaining their dreams.

NCTC Development OfficeDuring this year, NCTC has established the Development Office to expand opportunities for students and increase student success by systemically and purposefully engaging individuals and corporations, building relationships, identifying common alignments and inviting these entities to participate in the college’s mission.

Through these relationships and alignments, we will develop financial resources that are used by the Foundation to fund scholarships, college infrastructure and student services in support of our shared mission.

Development creates opportunities for success by engaging individuals and corporate entities in the lives and success of our students, nurturing meaningful relationships and articulating a strong case for investing in the college and its identified needs.

Throughout this year, the Development Office staff have developed the 2020-2025 Strategic Plan, established

baseline data utilizing historical data, established a donor and an alumni database, conducted prospective donor research and analysis, and outreached to the community to engage new friends and supporters. The Flower Mound Summit Club was a recent supporter of NCTC and the Development Office.

Flower Mound Summit Club Establishes Endowed Scholarship

North Central Texas College attended the May meeting of the Summit Club of Flower Mound and was presented with a check representing the final installment on a $13,500 pledge to complete the Summit Club’s Endowed Scholarship at NCTC.

“The Summit Club was an early supporter of the NCTC campus in Flower Mound,” said Jessica DeRoche, Senior Director of the Flower Mound campus. “In fact, they were the first Flower Mound organization to reach out and welcome NCTC to the area.”

The Summit Club of Flower Mound is a service organization comprised of community leaders and hard-working men dedicated to serving others. NCTC is excited to have the support of the Summit Club of Flower Mound and looks forward to growing this relationship well into the future.

Grant Development and ManagementThe NCTC Grant Development and Management office mission is to apply, secure and implement, within the compliance guidelines, external grant funding to help NCTC meet its identified goals that are aligned with the College’s mission.

During the 2018-19 year, the Grants team in conjunction with faculty and staff throughout the college submitted eleven grant applications. The following grants were funded valued at $2,317,401:

• Perkins Basic Grant 2018-2019, plus supplemental award• Texas Talent Connections (Y3 Wagner Peyser) Career Services• AACC & Accenture Skills to Succeed (S2S) Workforce Grant • TWC Governor’s Summer Merit Program-IT Summer Camps• TWC Peterbilt Skills Development Fund Grant• TWC Constructions Trade Grant—NAIL Program• TWC 31 Gifts-Samsung HVAC Manufacturing Skill Development Fund Grant• TWC American Hat Skills Development Fund Grant

In addition to these newly funded grant programs, NCTC is implementing and monitoring almost $12 million in grant programs.

Alumni RelationsSince 1924, NCTC has been providing educational opportunities to students and hundreds of thousands of alumni have benefited from their experiences at NCTC.

Over the past year, the Development and Alumni Relations have been working on the alumni database and currently there are 140,000 names in this database. As part of the Development Office Strategic Plan, strategies have been defined for outreach to these alumni to engage and draw them closer to the college. During the spring semester, the Alumni and Friends Association has been revamped to encourage outreach and engagement with NCTC alumni. On May 15, 2019, the Alumni and Friends Association gave out alumni t-shirts and one-year free memberships to all the TRIO graduates at their end of year banquet. During the May 17th graduation, more than 160

graduates signed up with the Alumni and Friends Association; each receiving a t-shirt and one year free membership.

Prior to graduation, the alumni office also emailed all graduates to congratulate them and offer them a free membership into the Alumni & Friends Association. On May 23, 2019, NCTC partnered with the First State Bank Exchange at NCTC to set up a table to promote the alumni association at Twilight Tunes on the square in Denton.

NCTC’s Grants Office also oversaw the production of CareerFocus Magazine, designed to promote CTE programs under the auspic-es of the Perkins Grant.

Marketing and Public RelationsThis past year, NCTC established a new position, adding SullivanGroup’s Ski Sullivan as Sr. Director of Marketing and Public Relations to provide expanded leadership for the Marketing and Public Relations Department.

Through his leadership, the NCTC Marketing and Public Relations Office has been restructured to provide additional marketing and public relations services. Throughout the year, he has initiated the following: taking inventory and assessing effectiveness of current practices and project flow; creating an in-house marketing agency to meet clients’ expectations and reducing turnaround time and establish reporting and analytic benchmarks; creating an external resource team to assist with additional marketing functions such as video/digital/audio services; assess the website interface and effectiveness; targeted advertising and promotional needs; expanding editorial, public relations and social reach; making strategic decision about special events/sponsorships and specialty support; and enhancing internal communication initiatives.

In addition, the Marketing & Public Relations Office has been instrumental in the marketing and outreach for the New First State Bank Exchange Campus in downtown Denton to establish a viable market value and identity. They have focused on adding value and recognition to the NCTC brand and ultimately drawing a new user-base of students to attend classes at the downtown Denton campus.

Small Business Development CenterIn May, at the 2019 Salute to North Texas Small Business Awards Luncheon, North Central Texas Small Business Development Center was the recipient at the District 2019 SBDC of the Year for the U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA) Dallas/Fort Worth Office for their hard work, innovative ideas and dedication to our communities. Brad Bunt serves as the Director of this program.
