Do you give lip service or life service to follow Jesus and living the

kingdom of God? That is, do your actions confirm your words? Saying that "We ate and drank in your company" is not enough. We strive to enter the narrow gate by doing our best to live the values of God's kingdom that Jesus showed us. Living the ways of the kingdom that Jesus' words and deeds proclaimed takes discipline. Many talk about going to the gym, taking time to practice their craft, eating in a more healthy manner, or making more time for prayer. These practices have positive effects in our lives. At other times they seem like too much, or we bite off more than we can chew rather than the amount that will help us make progress in the end. The same is true of the disciplines of faith.

Scripture tells us that God

invites people from all nations, faiths, and ways of life to enter the kingdom. Practices like prayer, fasting, almsgiving, living the commandments and turning to God in need are counted among the disciplines of faith. They help us tell the good news of Jesus Christ so that others can glorify God and live on God's holy mountain. We cannot earn a place at the heavenly banquet, because faith is a gift God offers to all. We take on these faith disciplines in gratitutde for that gift. Then when people see, hear, or encounter us, they see, hear, and enounter Jesus. That's the difference between life service and lip service. What discipline can I take on today so that my life and lips proclaim, "I follow Jesus Christ, the way, the truth, and the life"? Don't bite off more than you can chew. Let God help you reinforce success rather than failure.

Jesus shows us a heavenly banquet that just might have a lot

of attendees we don't expect to see: those who by the way they

lived, showed God's grace and mercy to the world around them.

What is the Jubilee Year of Mercy? On March 13, 2015, Pope Francis announced an Extraordinary Holy Year, to be called a “Jubilee of Mercy.”

When is the Jubilee Year of Mercy? The Jubilee Year of Mercy will run from December 8, 2015 to November 20, 2016.

What is a “Holy Door?”The highlight of the Jubilee Year of Mercy is the “Holy Door,” which the Pope asked to be at every Diocesan Cathedral around the world. A Holy Door is a door at a church which is designated as a place of pilgrimage for the faithful to pass through in order to receive special graces from God. In this instance passing through a Holy Door of Mercy will grant the participant a Jubilee Indulgence, assuming the usual conditions for an indulgence are met.

Where are pilgrimage sites in the Diocese of Venice? In the Diocese of Venice, two Parishes have been designated pilgrimage

sites and will have a Holy Door:Epiphany Cathedral, VeniceOur Lady of Mercy Parish, Boca Grande

When is the Holy Door open? The Holy Doors at Epiphany and at Our Lady of Mercy will be opened until November 13, 2016.

How can I go on pilgrimage to one of the Holy Doors?Anyone can make a pilgrimage to one of the Holy Doors during the Jubilee Year of Mercy.

EPIPHANY HOLY DOOR HOURS: M-TH (6:30AM-12PM), FRI (6:30AM-6:30PM), SAT (7:30AM-9AM, 3PM-5PM), SUN (6:30AM-6:30PM) Holy Days, Vigils, & Public Holidays subject to different hours, contact Cathedral What is an indulgence?According to the Catechism of the Catholic Church,An indulgence is a remission before God of the temporal punishment due to sins whose guilt has already

been forgiven, which the faithful Christian who is duly disposed gains under certain prescribed conditions through the action of the Church which, as the minister of redemption, dispenses and applies with authority the treasury of the satisfactions of Christ and the saints. An indulgence is partial or plenary according as it removes either part or all of the temporal punishment due to sin. The faithful can gain indulgences for themselves or apply them to the dead. (CCC 1471)The Jubilee Indulgence made available during the Jubilee Year of Mercy is a plenary indulgence, which means that it removes all the temporal punishment due to sin.

How do I obtain a Jubilee Indulgence? There are two ways to obtain the Jubilee Indulgence:Make a pilgrimage to one of the Holy Doors, and pass through it, asking for God’s mercy.

Perform a spiritual or corporal work of mercy.Note that to obtain the Jubilee Indulgence, the following conditions must also be met: • It is ideal to meet

this conditions on the day of the indulgenced act, but they can also be met within a week before or after the act:

• Receive the Eucharist

• Go to Sacramental Confession

• Pray for the Pope’s intentions

• Have the intention to be completely detached from sin.

A Jubilee Indulgence can be received multiple times, but a maximum of once a day.

faithfulCITIZENSHIP"Forming Consciences for Faithful Citizenship"

This teaching document on the political responsibility of Catholics represents the Bishop Conference's guidance for Catholics in the exercise of their rights and duties as participants in our democracy. Our pastors, lay and religious faithful, and all people of good will are urged to use this statement to help form their consciences; to teach those entrusted to their care; to contribute to civil and respectful public dialogue; and to shape political choices in the coming election in light of Catholic teaching. The statement lifts up our dual heritage as both faithful Catholics and American citizens with rights and duties as participants in the civil order.
