POSITION OF RESPONSIBILITY

2014 – today one of the two European Representatives in the Global Materials

Network on Advanced Materials

2018 Representative in the Youth European Materials Research Society

(Y-EMRS)

2013 – 2017 National Representative in the European Young Chemist Network

Research Interests

The research activities are focused on the development, synthetic processes and

structural characterization of advanced nanomaterials along with the study of their

physicochemical properties, for electronic, energy and environmental applications.

More specific on catalysis and photocatalysis for environmental applications.

Materials Science & Nanotechnology

inorganic porous materials, graphene and carbon nanostructures, hybrid inorganic

materials, mesoporous organosilicates, aerogels, ceramic materials, composites,

renewable materials etc) with different functionalities in powder and film form.

Synthesis of advanced materials using chemical (solution, sol-gel, solid state chemistry

including hydrothermal, solvothermal, high temperature reactions, etc) or physical

methods (Aerosol Spray Pyrolysis, Sputtering, etc).

Characterization techniques: strong experience on Powder X-ray diffraction using

conventional X-rays sources CuKα/Ag, Thermogravimetric Analysis-TGA,

Differential thermal analysis-DTA, Differential Scanning Calorimetry-DSC, Mid and

Far Infrared Spectroscopy-Reflectance and Transition mode, Raman and UV-Vis

Spectroscopy, Scanning Electron Microscopy-SEM, Energy dispersive spectroscopy-

EDS, High Resolution Transmission Electron Microscopy-HRTEM, Surface area

measurements-BET, Kinetic on the degradations of gas and liquid pollutants, TOC

Analyser, GC-MC, Gas analysers).

Energy, Health, Electronic and Environmental Applications

Nanomaterials are of great technological importance in energy, health, electronic and

energy applications because of their capability to generate charge carries when

stimulated with required amount of energy. In particular, for environmental

applications my research focus on gas sensors (to control the air quality and to detect

toxic gasses) and on photocatalytic nanomaterials for improved air, water and health

quality. On energy applications, my research focused on thermochromic materials

for smart windows and heat regulation coatings which are suitable for reduced energy

consumption in Buildings and on advanced oxides for energy storage systems (such

as batteries and supercapacitors). On Health applications, my research focused on

antibacterial surfaces (such as smart textiles or surfaces for wastewater treatment).

Finally, for electronic applications my research focus on transparent conductive

devices (such as sensors).
