Chapter 2State Leadership

The AFC Broward Chapter has been very involved on a state level.Dr. Xiao Wang was the Membership Award recipient at the 2010 AFCMembership Conference.

James S. Lansing has been active in the AFC for many years. Page 31 ofthis chapter lists his many accomplishments.

Sean Alveshire, a member of the Broward College District Board ofTrustees, is Chair-Elect of the 2011 AFC Trustees Commission.

As the AFC membership increases at Broward College, our involvementwith state leadership will grow as well.

Dr. Xiao WangChapter President

Dr. Xiao Wang joined the Association of FloridaColleges (AFC) in 2004. Since then, Dr. Wang has acceptedresponsibilities in different AFC capacities:

• Served as AFC Broward Chapter President for twoconsecutive years.

• Served as the editorial board member for the AFCmagazine Vision

At the AFC 61st Convention, Dr. Wang was elected as the AFCRegion V Director-elect for 2012.

During her leadership, AFC has become a household name at Broward.As part of her mission, Dr. Wang gave speeches at the Broward College Pro-fessional Development Day, numerous college Faculty Senate meetings, andmost collegewide faculty meetings.

The above actions reflect on the AFC Broward Chapter membership in-crease as displayed in Chapter 1 of this Yearbook – from 16% in the past to21% in the present. Moreover, Dr. Wang was instrumental in seeking fundingfor AFC Broward Chapter, which resulted in an $800 dollar donation.

This also made her the Membership Award recipient at the 2010 AFCMembership Conference.

James S. LansingFaculty Commission Board Member

Broward College professor Jim Lansing has been a member ofAFC for 26 years, and has participated in the AFC Faculty Commis-sion Board in the following capacities:

• Elected to serve on the Board of the Faculty Commissionfor nineteen years in a row. During that time, ProfessorLansing has held the following offices on the Faculty Com-mission Board:o Commission Chair-Elect and then Chair with a seat on

the AFC Board of Directors. This year is the third timefor this office.

o Secretaryo Treasurer

At Broward College, Professor Lansing has held the following positions:• North Campus Vice President for three years, 1991 - 1994• Broward College Chapter President, for three years, 1994 – 1997.

Professor Lansing was elected as the Region V Deputy Director for twoyears, 1998-2000. He also was appointed twice to the AFC Awards Commit-tee, in 1997and 2000
