1. INTRODUCTION

Fishery Survey of India (FSI) is the nodal agency of the Govt. of India responsible for carryingoutsurvey,assessmentandmonitoringof thefisheryresourcesof theIndian EEZ and generating vital information for the sustainable exploitation of fisheryresources.Besidesimplementationoftheregularsurveyprojects,theFSIhasalsocarriedoutdiversifiedfishingmethodsincludingexperimentalfishingonmeshselectivityandcomparativestudiestounderstandefficiencyofgears.TheFSIhasalsoplayedakeyroleinpopularizationofmodernfishingmethodsinthemaritimestates.

This Annual Report presents the highlights of the ongoing survey and allied activities accomplished during the year 2013-14. While accomplishing this task, the Institute also conducted regional workshops, open-houses, street plays and marine exhibitions etc.forthebenefitofthefishermen,thefishingindustryandtheend-usersasapartofthe extension activities in all the maritime states. The Institute has also been acting as an interface between the Ministry of Agriculture and the State Fisheries Departments incollectionofthemarinefishlandingdatabythewayofprovidingtrainingtothestatefisheryofficialsanddataenumeratorsunderCSSprogramme.

Duringtheyear,2013-14FSIconductedtrainingonlatesttechniquemonofilament&multifilamentofthetunalongliningforfishermenwithfinancialsupportfromNationalFisheries Development Board (NFDB), Hyderabad. The Institute continued to impart training to the students sponsored by the CIFNET, Kochi on board survey vessels on tenure basis as well as the pass out students of CIFNET on casual basis.The Institute also conducted 6 training-cum-workshops on Strengthening of Data collection and Fish Taxonomy during the year in various maritime states /UTs.

During the year under report, 11 vessels of the Institute collectively achieved 1071 days out at sea expending a sampling effort of 1711 hours and 155010 hooks. The incidentalfishcatchduringthesurveywas46.38tonnes,realizingarevenueof̀ 10.56 lakhs as the sale proceeds. The budget grant of the Institute for the year 2013-14 was `45.06 crore and the expenditure was `44.54 crores.



2. THE MANDATE OF FSI

The Fishery Survey of India, Mumbai, under the Ministry of Agriculture, Department of Animal Husbandry, Dairying and Fisheries is the nodal agency for carrying out the survey,assessmentandmonitoringofthemarinefisheryresourcesoftheIndianEEZwithintheframeworkofawelldefinedmandate.ThemandateoftheInstituteistunedfromtimetotimetomatchwiththedevelopmentalactivitiesofthefisheriessectoraswell as to meet the national and global requirements.

The present mandate of the Institute as approved by the Evaluation Committee during 2007 is detailed below:

† Exploratorysurveys,chartingoffishinggrounds,assessmentoffishstocks intheIndianEEZandadjoininghighseasandresearchthereofbesidesthespecificsurveys on request from the States and Union Territories.

† Data collection and periodic re-validation of potential of fishery resources toprovide advice on Fishery management issues enshrined in the national, regional and global conventions and agreements and other associated activities.

† Monitoring surveys of fishery resources in the exploited areas includingcoral reefs, application of Monitoring, Control and Surveillance (MCS) for regulating fishing activities and promotingCode ofConduct forResponsibleFisheries(CCRF) in the Indian EEZ.

† MaintainDataBank and disseminate information on fishery resources to theend - users and act as an interface between the State/UTs and the Ministry of Agriculture,Government of India forMarine and Inland fish production andrelated aspects.

† Assessmentofsuitabilityoffishinggear,accessoriesandequipmentwithspecialreference to the preservation of environment and ecology of marine habitat.

† Fishstockidentificationandbiodiversitystudiesincludingapplicationofgenetictools and techniques.

† Marine Fisheries forecasting including application of remote sensing for the benefitofartisanal,mechanizedandindustrialsectors.

† HumanResourcesDevelopmentthroughpracticaltrainingoffishingoperatives,fishermen,fisheriesofficialsandstudents.

C. Salient Observations

The highest catch rate of 214.67 kg/hr was recorded in 30 – 50 m depth zone in Lat.20oN by using Fish trawl, followed by 194.83 Kg /hr in 50 – 100 m depth zone in the same area by using Fish trawl.

In thedepthzoneof30–50m, thecatchwasdominatedbyCatfish (23.91%)followedbyElasmobranchs(14.61%)andHorsemackerel(11.94%).Thecatchof50–100mdepthzonewasmainlycomprisedofCatfish (23.35%),Horsemackerel(20.89%),Otherperches(8.43%)andCephalopods(8.34%)byusing34mfishtrawl.

D. Biological studies

A total of 1975 specimens belonging to 12 species were observed for length frequency studies and 235 specimens were examined for biological studies.

Length frequency data of 11 species with a sample size of 2332 specimens andbiological data of 11 species with a sample size of 736 specimens were collected during the year.

Highest catch rate of 103.91 was recorded in the depth range of 50-100m in latitude 90N.

Threadfin breams (Fam. Nemipteridae) were the dominant fishery resourcerecordedinthesurvey,followedbycrabs,whereasthenon-conventionalfisheryresource jelly fish, hitherto not exploited in south-west coast was dominantgroup in the catch, being caught from all the latitudes and depth ranges in huge quantities.

Dominance of nemipterids, mackerel and karikkadi shrimps (P. stylifera) in the demersal fauna were noticed during the monsoon seasons.

Swimming crabs, C. Smithii was caught in huge quantities during the northeast monsoon season.




To study the stock status, reproductive success and trophic interactions among the important fish species, the length structure,maturity, fecundity and diet studies ofthesespecieswereundertaken.Lengthfrequenciesof26specieswerestudiedfromasample size of 5869 during the period under report. Detailed biological studies were carried out for 16 species.

Highest catch rate of 121.59 was recorded in the depth range of 30-50m in latitude 10o N by shrimp trawl and 108.07 was recorded in the depth range of 50-00m in latitude 9oNbyfishtrawl.

Swimming crabs, C. Smithii was caught in huge quantities during the northeast monsoon season.

Scads (Decapterus sp), Groupers (Epinephelus diacanthus), squids (Uroteuthis duvaucelli and U. singhalensis) and threadfin breams (Nemipterus sp.) were theotherdominating species in thedemersalfishery resourcesofSouth-Westcoast. The dominance of scads in the southern latitudes and crabs in the northern latitudes were established.

Non-conventionalresource,jellyfishwerealsocaughtinhugequantities.

Highest catch rate of 18.33 was recorded in the depth range 50-100m of the latitude 10oN followed by 16.12 in the 30-50m in the latitude 140Nbyfishtrawl.

The highest catch rate of 15.67 was recorded in the depth range 30-50 m of the latitude 11o N by Cephalopod trawl.

The highest catch rate of 14.44 was recorded in the depth range 30-50 m of the latitude 11o N by shrimp trawl

Catchwasdominatedbysilverbellies(16.3%),squid(16.1%),mackerel(12.9%)in 30-50mdepthwhere as the catchwas dominated by squid (15.9%), silverbellies(14%), decapterids (14%) in 50-100m depth by fish trawl. In 100-200mdepthbyshrimptrawldeepseacrabs(74.6%)weremostdominantvarietyfollowedbydeepseafishes(21.3%).

Silver bellies(19.1%) and squid(13.2%) were dominant varieties even incephalopod trawl.

Squids(25%),mackerel(12.1%),decapterids(11.6%)weredominantvarietiesin30-50mdepthwhereasdeepseafishes(72.9%)anddeepseacrabs(19.2%)were dominant varieties in 200-300m by shrimp trawl.

D. Biological studies:

Biological studies on length frequency, length-weight, sex, maturity and food and feeding habits were made. A total of 2290 Nos. of specimens were measured for length frequency analysis, Biological studies on 1296 Nos. of specimens comprising 25 species were made during the period.

C. Salient Observations

During the period under report two latitudes i.e 17°N and 18° N were covered and the depth of operation varied from 34-132m. Two different trawls viz. 34m fishtrawland34mshrimptrawlwereoperated.AnaverageCPUEof59.1kg/hrwasobtainedbythe34mshrimptrawlfollowedby50.7kg/hrbythe34mfishtrawl.

The highest catch rate of 147.7 kg/hr was recorded in 50-100m depth of 18°N latitude by Shrimp trawl followed by 97 kg/hr in 30-50m depth of same latitude byfishtrawl.

Inthe34mfishtrawlthedominantfishescaughtwereGoatfishesfollowedbythecarangidsandSciaenids. In34mshrimp trawl thedominantfishescaughtwereGoatfishes,followedbytheperchesandLizardfishes.

D. Biological Studies

A total of 4445 observations were made for the length frequency distribution and 3348 observations were made for biological studies of 15 species.

C. Sailient Observation

During the period under report three latitudes i.e 16°N, 17°N and 18° N were covered and the depth of operation varied from 37-74m. Three different trawls viz.34mfishtrawl,34mshrimptrawland46.5expomodelbottomtrawlwereoperatedduring theaboveperiod.The34mfish trawlwas found tobemoreproductive in which an average CPUE of 162.9 kg/hr was obtained followed by 34m shrimp trawl (63.1 kg/hr) and Expomodel bottom trawl (53.3 kg/hr).

Inthe34mfishtrawlthedominantfishescaughtwerePonyfishesfollowedbyGoatfishesandbarracudas.In34mshrimptrawlthedominantfishescaughtwereGoatfishesfollowedbyPonyfishesandseaperches.Similarlyinthe46.5ExpomodelbottomtrawlthedominantvarietiescaughtwerePonyfishesfollowedbyGoatfishesandRibbonfishes.



Juveniles of Black Pomfrets (Parastromateus niger) were recorded in abundance during the month of April and May 2013.

During the period under report in the area 16°N, 17°N and 18°N latitude a total of 12 Olive Ridleys sea turtles (Lepidochelys olivacea) (08 males and 04females)werecaughtaliveinthetrawlnetsduringfishingoperations.Thelength of these turtles varied from 62-74 cm (carapace length) and weight was in between 35 and 40 kg. They were released back to sea in live condition. Also Olive Ridleys sea turtle mortality was noticed during the month of November 2013 off Visakhapatnam coast.

A total of 6085 observations were made for the length frequency distribution and 3108 observations were made for biological studies of 18 species (including 10 listed species).

In midwater survey operations, four latitudes i.e 16°N,17°N,18°N and 19°N were covered and the depth of operation was in between 39 and 107m. An average CPUE Of 33.7 kg/hr was obtained by the 12.92 X 12.92 fathom Mid water trawl. RibbonfishesfollowedbyPonyfishesandsardineswerethedominantvarietiesoffishcaughtinmid-watertrawloperations.

8. FLEET EXPANSION

Acquisition of two mid-water trawlers

A fresh proposal in the prescribed EFC format has been forwarded to the Ministry, requesting the approval for acquisition of two mid-water trawlers on nomination basis fromPSUShipyardM/sCochinShipyardLtd.,Kochi, at an estimatedcostofRs.92.85 crores during the XII Five Year Plan.

9. INFRASTRUCTURE FACILITIES:

Construction of Facility Research Centre at Sasoon Dock, Colaba Mumbai(HQs)

The construction work of the building is completed. Erection/installation of HV Substation is stillpending forwantofnecessaryapproval fromChiefFireOfficer,Mumbai.The total progressive expenditure of the project is Rs 12.67 crores upto31.03.2014outofthetotalprojectcostofRs.13.13crores.Meanwhile,theCPWDhas obtained the conditional NoC for the HV Substation.

Performance of Marine Engineering Division (MED), Kochi.

A total No. of 09 vessels were hauled-up in the Slipway of the Marine Engineering Division for their under water repair works and an amount of Rs. 13,63,567/- was realized.Further,duringthesameperiod,14nos.ofLifeRaftsand10nos.ofHRUwere serviced and an amount of RS. 1,79,669/- was realized.

12.1 Utilization Strategy for Oceanic Squids in Arabian Sea: A Value Chain Approach – Natioan Agriculture Innovation Project (NAIP)

Objectives:

† ToestablishanewcommercialjiggingfisheryforoceanicsquidsintheCentralArabian Sea and to determine the resilience of the species to exploitation.

† Initiate sustainability certification of oceanic squid jigging as an eco-labelledFishery.

† Develop protocols for onboard preservation and processing of oceanic squids and to enhance organoleptic characteristics of oceanic squids.

† Develop value added products from oceanic squid such as squid surmi and balls and efficient utilization of squid processing waste by developing by-productsuchasfishmealandchitosan

† Determine the techno-economic feasibility of commercial distant water squid jiggingoperations.

† Formulate Model bankable project/scheme on distant-water squid jiggingsuitableforNABARDtoacceleratetheflowofcreditfromscheduledbanksbyRefinance.

† Develop market intelligence on global oceanic squid markets and products.Develop export and domestic marketing channels through private partnership.

Results

Mumbai Base has fabricated the lifting device during the month of December 2012 and procured the required material for deploying pop-up archival tags. Scientist deployed the 4 pop-up archival tags successfully during the month of January 2013 onboard the vessel Matsya Vrushti.

12.2.3 Strengthening of Database and Geographical Information System for Fisheries Sector (CSS)

Objectives:

† Interacting with Maritime States and Union Territories for improving marine landing data collection by providing necessary training on the data collection methodology,dataprocessingandfishtaxonomy,collaboratingwithCMFRIatdifferent places.

† PrintingofHandbookonTaxonomyinregionallanguagesforthebenefitofdataenumerators.

Results

During the year under report, Fishery Survey of India had printed Handbook on Taxonomytitled‘HandBookonidentificationoffishspeciesoccurringintheIndianseas’ in both English andHindi languages for benefit ofData Enumerators andState/UTfisheriesofficials.TheInstitutehadalsoorganizedthefollowingworkshopsduring 2013-2014 for the benefit of state fisheries officials andData Enumeratorsof Department of Fisheries on Strengthening of Data Collection and Fish Taxonomy as a part of “Strengthening of Database and Geographical Information System for Fisheries Sector” during 12th plan.

Five fishermenfromGujaratparticipatedonboardsurvey-cum-trainingvoyagesoftunalonglineVesselsofFSIviz.,MatsyaVrushtiduringMay2013,8fishermenonthevesselMFVYellowFinattachedtoMormugaoBaseand10fishermenfromTamilnaduon the vessel Matsya Drushti were participated onboard survey-cum-training voyages of tuna longline Vessels of FSI during August 2013, September 2013 and January 2014respectively.Theygothands-ontrainingonvariousaspectsoffishingoperationsincluding arrangement of various components of the gear during shooting and hauling, fabrication, rigging and repair of the longline gear. The trainees were also givenpracticalguidanceonlocatingthefishinggrounds,collectionofoceanographicparameters, biology and movement pattern of the tunas, navigational requirements during shooting, hauling, scouting, handling and preservation of the catch and tips for monitoring the environmental parameters etc.

OnetribalfishermanyouthfromMus,CarNicobar,Nicobar,andanotherfishermanyouth from Anarkali, Port Blair, South Andaman nominated by the Department of Fisheries,Andaman&NicobarAdministrationforNFDB,Hyderabadfundedprojectwere also imparted training in latest technologies of tuna long lining on board M.F.V. Blue Marlin during July 2013 and September 2013 voyages.

Moving towards sustainability - Interactive training workshops for the benefit of fishers

ConsideringtheimportanceofsustainabilityinIndianfisheries,MinistryofAgricultureinstructed Fishery Survey of India to initiate capacity building for fishermen onsustainable resource exploitation. Awareness among the key operational staff about the sustainabilityanditsimportanceistheprimeobjectiveoftheprogamme.InteractiveworkshopswillproduceambassadorsofsustainabilityamongthefishersandtherebywecanmovetowardssustainabilityinIndianfisheries.

The Fishery Survey of India, Mumbai (HQs.) organized training programme for fisheryofficers,fishermen,fisherwomen,NGO’sandadministratorsasapartofitshuman resource development programme by utilising the expertise of the scientists at Mumbai during 20-21 April 2013. A total of 25 trainees were trained during the period.

Moving towards sustainability - Trainers training programmes

Fishery Survey of India jointly with NFDB provided training to 91 officials byconducting four training programmes at Chennai, Kochi, Mangalore and Mormugao to serve as the ambassadors of sustainability during the period under report. A one day regional workshop on “Marine Fishery Resources of Kerala Coast -Sustainable Exploitation” was organized at the Fishing Harbour, Chellanam on 06 February 2014. Around 135 participants from Fisher folks, representatives from Fishing Industries and Fishermen Co-operative Societies were present on the occasion. The Workshop was aimed to disseminate the informationonmarinefisheryresourcesalongtheKeralacoastbasedonthesurveyconducted by FSI, to make awareness about the measures to be taken for preserving thefisheryresourcesforgenerationstocomeandthestepstobetakenbythefishermenfor the safety at sea. The workshop provided an ideal opportunity to all the concerned to discuss and interact with Scientists.

A regional workshop on “Marine Fishery Resources of the Upper East Coast of India” at the Brackish Water Training Centre, Paradeep, Odisha on 24 March 2014 for the



benefitoflocalfishers,mechanizedandtraditionalboat owners. The Dignitaries on the above occasion were Shri J.B. Dash, Additional Director Fisheries (Tech),Govt.ofOdisha,ShriPratapRanjanRout,Dy. Director of Fisheries (Marine), Shri Sumanta Kumar Biswal, President, Odisha Marine Fish Producers Association(OMFPA) and Shri K. Govindaraj, Senior Fisheries Scientist. About 90

One day regional workshop on “Marine Fisheries Resources of Andaman and Nicobar Islands and Diversified Fishing Methods” was organized atNeil Kendra, Neil Island, South Andaman on 05 September 2013. The main aim of the workshop is to disseminate the information on the resources potential and availability of various DiversifiedFishing Methods and to exploit the abundant oceanic resources as well as the Perch resources, optimum utilization of fishery

14.6 Hindi Official Language Activities

14.6.1 Hindi workshop and seminar

Mumbai (HQ)

A one day Hindi workshop was organized on 14 June 2013 at Fishery Survey of India, (Hqrs.) to motivate and guide the staff members to work in Hindi. Dr. Sunita Yadav, Assistant Director, Hindi Teaching Scheme delivered lecture on terminology & translation.TwentyOfficialsactivelyparticipatedintheworkshop.

A one day Hindi workshop was organized on 04 September 2013 at Fishery Survey of India (Hqrs.), Mumbai in order to increase the correspondence in Hindi. Shri RajendraSingh,HindiPradhyapak,Hinditeachingschemegavelectureonthetopic‘correspondenceandgrammar’.

A one day HindiWorkshop was organized on 3 December 2013 for officers andemployees at FSI, Hqrs. Mumbai in association with Hindi Teaching Scheme, Navi MumbaiaimingatovercomingthedifficultiesencounteredwhileworkinginHindi.Dr. Sunita Yadav, Asstt. Director was invited to deliver lecture on 'noting & drafting'.

A one day Hindi workshop was organized on "Official Language Act, OfficialLanguagePolicyoftheUnion&variousIncentiveSchemesavailabletopromotetheprogressive use of Hindi, at FSI (Hqrs.) Mumbai on 12.03. 2014. Dr. Sunita Yadav, Asstt. Director, Hindi Teaching Scheme delivered lecture on the above topic. Twenty fivestaffmembersactivelyparticipatedintheworkshop.

Three Hindi workshops were organised by Mumbai Base of Fishery Survey of India, Mumbai on 25 July 2013, 27 September 2013 & 13 January 2014. In the workshop on 25 July 2013, which were attended by all the officers and staff members, Dr. SunitaYadav, Assistant Director, dealt the topic on ‘Patrachar and Manak Hindi Vartani’ and‘Hindi Vyakaran on 25 July 2013 and 27 September 2013 respectively whereas in the

Hindi workshop on “Official Language Policy, ItsImplementation & UNICODE” was conducted on 19 September, 2013 wherein, Shri Anirban Biswas, RajbhashaAdhikari,UnionBankofIndia,Panjim,Goawas invited as resource person to deliver a lecture. He highlighted the policy and its implementation through power point presentation.



OnedayHindiworkshopon“OfficialLanguageImplementation”wasconductedon30thDecember,2013.Smt.ManishaKamble,OfficialLanguageSupervisor,AirportAuthority of India, Dabolim , Vasco, Goa delivered the lecture on the topic.

Chennai Base

A one day Hindi workshop was organized on 27 March 2014. Shri Ashish Khare, Jr.Hindi translator, FSI, Chennai delivered lecture in the workshop. All the staff members attended the workshop.

Cochin Base

Hindi workshops were organized on 22 June 2013, 23 September 2013, 30 December 2013 and 26 March 2014 on quaterly basic. Altogether 40 employees attended the workshop.

Visakhapatnam Base

BasehasorgansiedthreeHindiworkshops,whereallthestaffandofficersattendedtheprogrammes. First one day Hindi Workshop was organized on 21 June 2013. Smt. S. Sujatha,Superintendent,Rajbhasha,DredgingCorporationofIndia,Visakhapatnamwas the Chief Guest. She delivered a lecture on “Hindi implementation rules & regulations and grammar”.

Second Hindi workshop was conducted on 26 September 2013. Smt A. Bagyalakshmi, AssistantDirector(RajBhasha),EasternNavalCommand,NavalBase,Visakhapatnamwas the Chief Guest on this occasion and delivered a lecture on “Hindi and its usage”.

Third Hindi Workshop was organized on 20 December 2013. Dr. T. Mahadeva Rao,Dy.Manager,RajBhasha,HPCL,VisakhapatnamwastheChiefGuestonthisoccasion.TheOfficersandStaffattendedtheaboveprogramme.

AsapartofofficiallanguageImplementationfour Hindi workshops were conducted on quarterly basis. The first workshop washeld on 12 June 2013. Smt. Nirmala, Hindi Translator,DirectorateofLightHouseandLight ship, Port Blair, was the resourceperson on the occasion. She spoke on the Rajbhasha andApplication of Hindi, aims

andobjectivesofRajbhasha,Act,Resolutionanduseofsection3(3)inday-to-dayofficialworks.

Second Hindi Workshop was conducted on 28 September 2013. Shri. Bashudeb Das,(Ret.)HindiOfficer,KolkataPortTrustwastheresourceperson.HespokeontheRajbhasha,rule,andresolutionprocedureinHindiinDay-to-dayofficialworks.

Third Hindi Workshop was conducted 30 December 2013. Smt. Neeti Sundari, Hindi Translator, Secretariat, Andaman and Nicobar Administration gave the lecture on the “Noting and Drafting”.



Fourth Hindi Workshop was conducted 22 March 2014. Shri. P. K. Mishra, Hindi Translator,Andaman andLakshadweepHarbourworks (ALHW)was the resourceperson.Hespokeonthe‘Importanceofimplementationofofficiallanguage’

Hindi Day and Hindi Fortnight Celebration

The Fishery Survey of India (Hqrs) observed Hindi Day on 16 September 2013 and Hindi fortnight from 16 September 2013to 30 September 2013. Dr. K. Vijayakumaran,Director General inaugurated the function. Shri. Mahesh Kumar Farejiya, Director(Engineering) read out the "Appeal" received from the Hon'ble Agriculture Minister, Shri Sharad Pawar on the occasion of 'Hindi Day.' In the 'Appeal' the Hon'ble Minister requested

alltheOfficersandtheemployeestodomoreandmoreworkinHindi&tocontributefullytoimplementtheOfficialLanguagePolicyoftheUnion.Dr.AnanthSreemali,Astt. Director, Hindi Teaching Scheme was invited as the Chief guest in the inaugural function. He arranged a "Haasya Kavi Sammelan," during the function along with twootherpoetsShriDineshBawra,andDr.RajnikantMishra.AlltheStaffmembersenjoyedtheHaasyakavisammelan.ThiswasafirstKaviSammelanorganisedbyFSI(Hqrs.) Mumbai.

During the Hindi Fortnight, competitions were conducted on 1) Translation 2) General Knowledge of Hindi. 3) Poem recitation. Many staff members participated in the competitions enthusiastically.

The Valedictory function of the 'Hindi Fortnight' was held on 30 September 2013 at FSI (Hqrs.) and it was presided over by Dr. K.Vijayakumaran,DirectorGeneral,whoisalsotheChairmanoftheOfficialLanguageImplementation Committee. Shri Vinod Kumar Sharma, Dy. Director, Regional Implementation Office (Western Region)was the Chief Guest for the function. Hindi poem recitation was held, in which seven employees participated. In the some ocassion, orginally under the incentive Scheme fordoingworkinHindi, theofficersandstaffwereawardedprizesonthebasisoftheirHindinotinganddraftingmadeonthefilesaswellasforanyotherworkdoneinHindiduringthefinancialyear2012-13.Thechiefguestgaveawaytheprizestothe winners of the above scheme as well as the winners of various competitions. The valedictory function was concluded with the vote of thanks proposed by Meera Vellan Rajiv,Jr.HindiTranslator.

To observe Hindi Day and Hindi Fortnight, various activities were organised from 16 September 2013 to 28 September 2013. The Hindi Day and Hindi Fortnight was inaugurated by Shri. P. Sivaraj, ZonalDirector.The valedictory functionwasorganisedon28September2013.Shri.P.Sivaraj,ZonalDirector,FisherySurveyofIndia, Mumbai Base was the Chief Guest of the function and distributed the prizes to the winners of various competitions held during Hindi Fortnight.

Hindi Fortnight was celebrated from 14 September 2013 to 28 September, 2013. Smt. Anith V Vaity, Branch Manager, State Bank of India, Mormugao, Goa was invited as the Chief Guest for the programme held on 14 September, 2013. Hindi competitions were conducted during the fortnight and prizes were distributed to the winners of the competitions.

Cochin Base

The Hindi fortnight was celebrated from 12 September 2013 to 25 September 2013.The valedictory function was organized on 25 September 2013. Shri Sabu Philip, HindiOfficerofsouthernRailway,Ernakulamwasinvitedaschiefguest.

Chennai Base

Hindi fortnight was celebrated from 01 September 2013 to 14 September 2013. The valedictory function was organized on 16 September 2013 and Shri M. Devadasan, Dy. Director, CIFNET, Chennai unit was the chief Guest on the occasion. During the Hindi Fortnight various Hindi competitions were organized for officersand staff members of the Base and prizes were given away to the participants by the chief Guest.

Visakhapatnam Base

Hindi Fortnight was celebrated from 5 September 2013 to 18 September 2013. On this occasion, hindi writing, quiz in hindi competition were conducted. Children of staff members’ participated in song, storytelling and speech competition during the Hindi Fortnight. Port Blair Base

Hindi Kavi Sammelan

Visakhapatnam Base of FSI organized a Hindi Kavi Sammelan at Divisional Railway Manager (DRM)Office conference hall inassociationwiththeTownOfficialLanguageImplementationCommittee(TOLIC)ontheoccasion of World Hindi Day on 10 January 2014. Poets from various Central Govt. Departments as well as Visakhapatnam town participated in the Sammelan.

Training in Hindi / Hindi Typewriting Three employees of Kochi Base of FSI passed the Hindi Praveen exam and two employees of Visakhapatnam Base of FSI passed the Hindi Prabodh exam conducted by the Hindi Teaching Scheme of respective region.ShriVikasKumarMishra,LDCpassedHindiTypewritingexaminationwith100%marks under Hindi Teaching Scheme held in July 2013. He received a cash award of Rs. 2400/- and personal pay equivalent to one increment for twelve months. ShriRakeshKumar, LDC passedHindi typewriting examinationwith 76%marksunder Hindi Teaching Scheme in July 2013. He received personal pay equivalent to one increment for twelve months.

Incentive Scheme for doing official work originally in Hindi.

Six employees of FSI (HQs.), Mumbai and seven employees of Kochi Base of FSI were granted cash award under the Under the Incentive Scheme introduced by the DepartmentofOfficialLanguage,MinistryofHomeAffairs,Govt.ofIndia,fordoingoriginalofficialworkinHindi.

Participation in Computer Training Programme.

Shri N. V. Ramana Murthy, System Analyst participated in a 5 day Basic Training for working in Hindi on computers during 09-13 December 2013 and Smt. Meera Vellan Rajiv,Jr.HindiTranslator&Kum.RajashriSanadi,Sr.ScientificAsstt.participatedin the training from 30 December 2013 to 03 January 2014. The training programmes were conducted by the Deptt. of Official Language, Central Hindi Training SubInstitute, CBD, Belapur, Navi Mumbai.
