“This shouldn’t have happened.I’m young, I eat healthy, I run40K aweek…there’s no historyof it inmy family. But from themoment you’re born until youpass, at some point you’re goingto need the caring hands ofmedical professionals, and, ifyou’re fortunate enough to becared for by the quality staff atRCH, you’re blessed.” Open-heartsurgery patient Johnny Gahir, 37,of Surrey, who was treated for apersistent and life-threatening heartcondition at RCH.

“If I did not have our baby at RCH, I would not have survived. I was in the right place at the right time and had some of the best physicians Icould have asked for atmy bedside.” Amie MacNeil, 27, of Abbotsford, who, following the birth of her son, went into cardiac arrest while suffering fromsevere postpartum bleeding when her uterus would not contract.

I will never be able to thank themenough!” Sandy Buono, wife of Wally Buono, the BC Lions General Manager and much-loved coach of nine years. InNovember 2004, Wally Buono was admitted to Royal Columbian Hospital and underwent triple cardiac bypass surgery.
