Sticks may be the most common objects in our daily life. I am wondering whether they can be united to a unit element. And after a series of changes, these unites can be repeated and form reasonable structure such as wall or roof.

Under vert ica l load, the fracture failure easily occur at the connection of this component.

Use a rope to pull the lower end of the two components. Now under vertical load, t h e d e f o r m a t i o n c a n b e effectively controlled because of tension in the rope. And also, the lateral thrust can be decreased.

Change the direction of the component. Likewise, the fracture failure easily occur at the connection.

Using ropes which will generate tension can effectively prevent the destruction.

However, under forces that perpendicular to the structure plane, unit 1 is not stable.

This variant of unit 2 is stable under forces o f d i f fe rent directions. In particular, it is stable under force downward. So I can use it to build the roof.

3 4

Unit 1Under forces in each direction in plane, unit 1 is not easily destroyed with high strength.

Turn the former component to a 3D one, this unit 2 is stable under forces in different directions.

01 Line VS SurfaceIn the model 1, I use unit 1 and its variants to construct the sides of the building. The roof is a complete plane.

The basic units that I made can build house conveniently by repeating. The invention has reasonable bearing structure, beautiful appearance and wide application.

These two completely different materials will crystallize into a beauty of contrast.

01 Line VS SurfaceIn the model 2, I use unit 2 and its variants to construct the roof of the building.

The side is made by a complete plane.

02 Gone With the WindSeeing that cloth hanging up on the rope and fluttering in the wind, I think that building is also under the wind force. I want to design a building that will stay in equilibrium condition under the wind force and other forces. So that it has a longer life span, even in the weak foundation.

I use ABAQUS to do force analysis of a hypothetical surface under rightward evenly distributed load. According to the model, there are 3 fixed edges: left, right and upper margin. And then I change the curvature of the surface to close the most reasonable one. This is the reference of the building. (The forces increase from left to right)

The side is an arc

Change the arc direction

Arc on side and top

Change one arc into a curve

Arc on top, curve on side

According to the above comparison, 2 is more reasonable.

I change the arc angle to get the most reasonable one.

Gone With the Wind

Based on the most reasonable surface 2', I fine tune the gradient of the surface to produce varying results with similar force conditions.

Gone With the Wind

This building fronts on the sea. People can enjoy the view as well as rest in the shade.

Used as coffee house, it will bring lots of pleasure to people on the beach.

The building is like a sailboat from side view.

03 Cyclists' HouseIn China, more and more people fall in love with cycling. Compared to the advanced personal equipments, supporting

facilities are scare. I want to design a project to meet cyclists' needs in China. The project must be easily constructed, assembly, efficient and artistic.

I choose the 9th model. It can meet all cyclists' needs and has enough sapce for all equipments. It is easily built and moved.

Cyclists' HouseBased on the needs of cyclists in China, I build a series of models to analyse which one is the most efficient one.

Heavy fog hits many cities in China again and again. I want to design a whole new efficient way to reduce pollution and improve air quality by greening.

Here are 6 traditional ways of out-door greening and their characteristic analysis.

04 3D Green

Showed in these charts, vertical green is much more successful. But the size is limited. I make a concept of 3D GREEN to enlarge its merit and avoid its weakness.

04 3D GreenThe green members are interconnected as well as link to the building.

You can enjoy green out of window, even you live in high-rise building.

On the ground, the interlaced green looks like a forest to visitors.
