With every new season, we are presented with new opportunities, and Y.K. Almoayyed & Sons shall not miss any of them. We stand strong as usual and gear up to take on the challenges that wait ahead.

Looking back over the past few months, I am pleased to see how much we’ve achieved as a team and a family.

Our home-grown Yousif & Aysha Almoayyed Charity kept themselves busy with a number of charitable causes, especially during the Holy Month of Ramadan, making as much contribution to our community as possible. In addition, we carried on our EDMAJ programme as part of our CSR policy, encouraging sustainable business initiatives that facilitate our society.

Across our divisions, our skilled staff attended intensive training programmes and continued to grow professionally, and their outstanding performances were appreciated and rewarded.

On a commercial level, I would like to congratulate Ashrafs on completing their new business tower – yet another step forward for the excellent brand. And, the “Kenwood Best Digital/Social Media Campaign 2013” award for YKA-EHA division was a great recognition.

A Strategist and Hands-on Leader

One-on-one with Amal Almoayyed

We talk to Amal Almoayyed, Ashrafs Executive Director, about new ventures, success, and what really matters in business.

One of the most recent major investments of Y.K. Almoayyed & Sons Group – the new business tower for Ashrafs – has just been completed. Can you tell us about your direct involvement in the execution of this project?

I firmly believe that if you want the end result to be good, you need to monitor every detail at grass-roots level. I’ve been very passionate about our new tower right from its inception stage as I believe that it will give Ashrafs the right platform to re-launch its excellent brand.

What effect will this new facility have on your customers and employees?

We haven’t officially launched it yet, but we have already received a very positive feedback – people personally call me and remark favourably on the way the tower has come about. Internally, this major change will be a great motivation for the staff; the new work environment generates new energy. I am also certain that our customers will love the new facility. The new Ashrafs tower offers additional space for retail, much wider variety

of products, more product lines, and fresh concepts – it’s going to be a completely new experience altogether.

Tell us about your brand’s growth and how it impacts the local economy?

Ashrafs has always been synonymous with quality and trust. We are one of the very few companies that dates back over a

century and has been built on the trust that people have shown in us. In our own way, we have contributed to the local economy by playing the role of a fair business entity, nurturing our associate businesses, and encouraging human talent.

How would you evaluate the Bahraini retail market and its possible development in the nearest future?

I have personally witnessed a major

shift in the retail space over the last decade. There was a time when the retail market in Bahrain was nothing more than a local souq but it has now changed into a multi-format, multi- brand, and multi-category industry comparable to any international market. This transformation has obviously benefitted companies like us as we managed to adapt to the change at a very early stage. We

are very optimistic going forward, however we also know that in order to meet our customers’ growing expectations, we will need to constantly develop.

Do you see your role as more of a big-picture strategist or a hands-on leader?

You can’t be looking at the big picture without knowing the ground realities. To be successful in today›s time, you’ve got to be a strategist and a hands-on leader at the

same time. Although, to be honest, it puts a lot of strain on you as an individual, but unfortunately there is no better choice.

What do you do to stay in touch with your employees and customers?

I have always believed that the biggest asset to the organisation is the human capital. After all, a company is all about a set of people. I stay connected to my staff through an open door policy. My experience has taught me that even a person in the most junior position can give u a million dollar idea but you need to have a system that allows them to reach you. Also, being connected with the staff helps me identify the right talent for the right job. As for the customers, we have systems in place where we regularly

receive their feedbacks. Our robust loyalty programme has more than 10,000 people enrolled, and we utilise our social media platform very aggressively.

Apart from launching the new Ashrafs, what is your next challenge?

About a year back, I heard about a purely vegetarian fast food concept and I was very impressed with the idea. After discussions with the franchise in Dubai, we signed a contract for the first Dosa Plaza in Bahrain that will open its doors by the end of October, right next to our main Ashrafs building, with

a separate car park facility. The Dosa Plaza menus consist of 104 pure vegetarian dosas and other dishes much-loved by the Arab and other Asian nationals. It has been a very new and exciting experience for me, getting involved in all the aspects of this project such as designing the outlet or hiring the staff. This is the first fast-food venture in the Y.K. Almoayyed group and I have full trust that it will be a success.

What’s your advice for the young entrepreneurs out there?

My scoop of advice for the youngsters who aspire to succeed in the business world is: Believe in yourself. – You must recognise and believe in your skills and use them to

achieve your goal. Don’t worry about failures but view them as learning opportunities.

Work hard – Be willing to put in all your effort to reach your goal as nothing comes easy in life.

Start small and grow big – This way, you minimise the possibility to fail and, when you reach the top, you will have learned all that you need to know.

Believe in your employees – Treat those who work for you with love, care, and respect because in the end of the day they are the most important assets to your business

Employees Contribute in the Blood Donation Campaign A Blood Donation Campaign was held at Salmaniya Medical Hospital where

Sons Group is committed to serving its community, and every year, we extend our support by hosting blood donations in coordination with The Central Blood Bank of Bahrain. Donation to Garnata Primary Girls School

As part of its vision to reach out to society, Yousif & Aysha Almoayyed Charity, made a donation consisting of vouchers worth BD 1,000 to the Garnata Primary Girls School in Sitra.

Car Donation to Support MWPS Yousif and Aysha Almoayyed Charity donated a car to the Migrant Workers Protection

Society (MWPS) as a means to support their continuous efforts and facilitate their needs. The charity group, a subsidiary of Y.K. Almoayyed & Sons solely dedicated to aiding the community, donated the 2014 Nissan Sunny during a special ceremony hosted at Nissan Showroom in Sitra.

Salwa Almoayyed, Head of the Charity, handed the car keys to Marietta Diaz, Head of MWPS, in the presence of MWPS General Secretary Beverley Hamadeh, the YKA representatives, and Nissan Bahrain General Manager Paul Baker, among others.

“A Dream without Limits” Book LaunchThe inauguration of the new book, “A Dream without Limits” published by the Yousif

& Aysha Almoayyed Charity Society was held at Al Riwaq Gallery, Adliya, in collaboration with The Women Professional Network.

The event featured art works and paintings from The Bahrain Mobility Center and The Bahrain Down Syndrome Society. All the proceeds from the books and painting sales were directed to the charitable societies involved in the event.

The new publication chronicles the story of Ali Mohammed Moosa, who was born with physical disabilities.

Taking the Market by Storm

What products and services does YKA Trading offer to the consumers in the UAE?

At YKA Trading, we have an array of well known and exclusive brands from Korea, Italy, Saudi Arabia, and Japan. These include Daewoo’s refrigerators, washing machines, microwave ovens, vacuum cleaners, air conditioners, gas cookers, and chest freezers; Ariston’s washing machines, refrigerators, and water heaters; Zamil’s

Cooline air-conditioners; and OKI’s printers.

What does your division have that your competitors lack?

We strive for 100 per cent customer satisfaction, which is extremely difficult in this business. To achieve this, we make the most out of our excellent sales team and provide reliable delivery and prompt aftersales services.

In your view, what is the best strategy for a sustainable business in the UAE’s competitive and unpredictable market?

UAE, as you know, is a dynamic market, so one should be able to adapt very quickly to its volatility with aggressive pricing offers and promotions. The agility to shift gears quickly and move along with changing market conditions is very important to sustain a business.

I consider it a great success that we’ve been able to gain market share while the market itself has been flat for over five years. For instance, when we decided to drop the brand Sansui in 2014, we immediately covered the deficit by increasing Daewoo, Ariston and Cooline product lines.

How do you plan to increase your company’s market share in the UAE?

Y.K. Almoayyed & Sons took over this

company (previously known as Utmost Electronics) in 2007 and since then, we have actually doubled our turnover within a span of six years, in spite of the downturn experienced during 2008-2013. We have achieved this by adding brands to our portfolio and growing our market share among our existing brands.

Additionally, our current strategy is to promote our brands Ariston and Daewoo in the project sales segment, which is now

expected to show significant growth after the announcement of EXPO-2020.

As a professional, what attributes do you bring to your company?

Over the years, I’ve gathered an extensive knowledge and insights in the consumer electronics and office automation industries. I know how to maintain excellent relationships with our principals. I always keep my focus on numbers. And, lastly, I am efficient in leading the team towards meeting the company’s objectives.

Can you name three factors that you believe play a major part in building a successful career?

Passion for the job, a stable and supportive family life, and a workforce that understands and supports your vision.

I consider it a great success that we’ve been able to gain market share while the market itself has been flat for over five years.

Interview with S. Sreekumar, Senior Manager – Service for Nissan, Infiniti, and Renault.

What are the aftersales services that you offer for your brands?

The most basic service we provide is the periodic maintenance service offered for all cars, which is mandatory in order to ensure maximum performance and safety at all times. YKA has brought this facility to the customers’ doorsteps; instead of fighting busy traffic on their way to our Sitra main branch, they can reach one of our network service centres within 15 minutes driving distance – in Arad, Salmabad, Manama, or Hamad Town.

We have a strong and technically qualified team of technicians who are capable of handling any complaints, under the global warranty policy of the brands we represent.

Do you have any special services or products that make your service centres stand out? Can you tell us more about the luxury features available at your Sitra branch?

We implement the ‘service while you wait’ concept at all our centres. As our technical staff delivers a quick service, while not compromising on quality, we encourage

our customers to relax at our luxurious waiting lounge equipped with refreshments, live satellite television, massage chairs, and updated reading materials.

We also offer a ‘drop and pick up’ service from more prominent locations where the customers leave their cars for more serious maintenance.

For our premium Infiniti customers, we also provide free courtesy cars when they bring their vehicles for service.

In your view, how important is the service department for the car dealership’s operations?

The seamless, high service levels keep the customers happy and bring about repeat purchases, in addition to efficient word of mouth marketing.

In the automotive industry, the relationship with the customers starts only after the car is delivered to them. What is your approach to ensuring maximum customer satisfaction and loyalty?

We focus on providing the best ownership experience through constant communication with our customers and attention to their feedback, in addition to a regular re-evaluation of our internal systems and processes. We use every opportunity to

learn and improve, which is an important KPI for our business.

We also have a transparent pricing policy so that the customers are fully aware of what has been done during the service.

What are the biggest strengths of your team?

My team members are frequently trained by the principal companies and internally so that they are always up to date and motivated. Generally speaking, they work according to three basic principles: sense of urgency, customer focus, and quick communication – used both within the organisation and in the customer interactions so as to avoid any service delays.

In your experience, what part of working in the automobile industry is the most rewarding?

Positive customer feedback and subsequent repeat and referral car sales are a huge source of job satisfaction to me

Bidding Farewell Y.K. Almoayyed & Sons bid farewell to seven long-serving

staff members during a ceremony where cash prizes were given away as tokens of the company’s gratitude. Present at the function, Mona Almoayyed, Managing Director at YKA thanked the retiring employees for their commitment and wished them the very best in their future.

YKA Employees Attend EMIC Training A Supervisory Development Programme was organised for twelve employees across

YKA’s divisions and groups, put forth by EMIC Training. The course consisted of five modules and focused on understanding and building leadership skills, and utilised hands-on learning tools.

Annual Training for Nissan and InfinitiNissan Gulf FZCo (NGF) organised the Annual Extended

Warranty training and awards ceremony, last June for Nissan and Infiniti franchises, in cooperation with GAP Gulf. Nissan’s Yogesh Sachde and Hussain Hawaj, and Infiniti’s Mohammed Zumail were named the top winners for this ‘add-on of significance to any vehicle’ sales spree.

Nissan X-Trail Training The three-day training was held for the Nissan X-Trail, which

incorporated innovative training ideas, including the ‘competition static and dynamic evaluation’, with five competitor vehicles tested against the X-Trail. In conclusion, the X-Trail performed better, leaving competition far behind and carrying a better Value for Money tag.

وأوالده – قائلة: " تلتزم المجموعة إلتزامًا كليًا تجاة خدمة المجتمع، ففي كل عام، نقيم برنامج التبرع بالدم بالتنسيق مع بنك الدم المركزي بمجمع السلمانية الطبي. يعتبر

التبرع بالدم عنصرًا أساسيًا في خدمة الرعاية الصحية التي تجني فوائد واسعة النطاق. نحن فخورون بخوض مثل هذه الحملة بمشاركة موظفينا".
