Dear Members,As 2017 draws to a close and we pause to reflect on the year that is almost complete, the Prattville YMCA is thankful for what has been a very successful year. We have seen growth in many of our program areas within the YMCA and have seen many people impacted by their experience here. Every day, lives are strengthened because of the opportunity that we all have to enjoy a strong YMCA in our community. As we strive to continue a strong legacy of service to our community, we are re-minded of how fortunate we are to have such dedicated members and loyal supporters. Our success is also directly dependent on this support and the hard work of our many dedicated employees and volunteers here at the Prattville YMCA. Our work is definitely a team effort. At year end, we will have employed a total number of 368 different people at our Y with only 35 of those employees be-ing fulltime. Most people are amazed when they hear this number, having no idea that it takes this many people to staff the

many different areas that we cover. Obviously, we depend on many people who are willing to work part time to help staff our YMCA. Some of these employees have fulltime

jobs and choose to serve here simply because they enjoy helping others and making a difference, while others look to give back because they have extra time available after retiring from their careers; however most of our part time staff are high school and college students. A little over 5 years ago, when I began serving as General Director, Mr. Willis Bradford imparted some very important wisdom to me. He told me that one of our most important Y programs was one that was never really publicized or discussed, and that is the opportunity that we have to afford many of the young people in Prattville with their first work experience. Many of these young people who work with us will become the next generation of a productive work-force and community leaders right here in Prattville and the River Region. Almost every day, I come in contact with someone who grew up working at the Y, and many of those received their first job opportunity here. This is a tremendous opportunity for our YMCA to shape the future of our community and help grow the next generation. This is just one way that we impact the community through your support, but certainly one that will be felt for years to come.

Even with the large number of people that we employ, we still depend on countless volunteers to help us fulfill our mission. We owe tremendous thanks to those who are willing to give their time and talents to volunteer to help our YMCA. Whether it be as a youth sports coach, swim official, Leaders Club sponsor, Board member or Annual Campaign worker, each of these people make a significant impact on the quality of life in our community through their service at the Y. Just as I encounter so many who began their work experience here, hardly a day goes by when I don’t talk with someone who has given their time to volunteer through the Y at some point in time. Most certainly, neither our YMCA nor our community would be what it is without their generosity and hard work. Generosity is at the core of what we are able to do at our YMCA, and that not only applies to time but also to those who are willing to share their financial resources with us. Without this, our YMCA could not operate effectively and our programs would simply become a commodity. Because of all of those who have given so generously, we are blessed with facilities to serve the needs of our community, and just as important, be able to help offer scholarships to those who are not able to afford to participate. This year alone, through our Coach a Child campaign and John 17:21 Society, we were able to raise over $160,000 to help offer these scholarships. Those funds, coupled with support that we receive through the River Region United Way, helped us offer over $220,000 in program and membership assistance at our YMCA. This impacted the lives of almost 3000 people and is a tangible investment in improving the health and wellbeing of each of these people and families. Teamwork is a key component in most of the programs we deliver. Without the teamwork displayed by dedicated members, generous volunteers and donors, and a hardworking staff, each doing their part, the impact of our YMCA would be much smaller. The opportunities to impact our community are many and it takes each one of us pulling together to meet these needs and remain prepared as we move into the future. The work of the Prattville YMCA is important, and each of us plays a role in helping as we enter our 55th year of service to our community.

In Service,

David LewisGeneral Director

Every day, lives are strengthened because of the opportunity that we all have to enjoy a strong YMCA here in our community.

Coach A Child Scholarship Fund Campaign

The Y makes strengthening our communities our cause. We do this by offering affordable child care to families, providing youth sports programs to children of all ages, helping adults who suffer from arthritis, showing teenagers the importance of serving our neighbor through volunteer work, teaching 2nd graders in our county important water safety skills, and through so many other programs that promote a healthy spirit, mind, and body for all. This year, about 15,000 people—nearly half of them children—will come to our Y to learn, grow, and thrive. Of this number, we will provide financial aid to over 3,000 individuals at a cost of over $200,000.

This year our goal is to raise $170,000 through our Coach A Child Scholarship Fund Campaign. We count on the generosity of our members and partners to keep our doors open to whoever needs a place to go to help them be more healthy, confident, connected, and secure. Find out how you can help by calling, stopping by any branch or by donating online.

JOHN 17:21 SOCIETYThe John 17:21 Society was established in 2013 and is comprised of YMCA donors who believe in the mission of the YMCA: To put Christian principles into practice through programs that build a healthy spirit, mind and

body for all. These donors understand the impact of the YMCA is felt every day when an individual makes a healthy choice, when a mentor inspires a child and when a community comes together for the common good.

These donors demonstrate that belief by annually donating at least $1000 to the work of the Prattville YMCA.
